I'm at a loss for words on the ferry build, It's beautiful. Also can't find words to tell you how much I enjoy your channel and how much you've upped my modelling skills. You are the man.
Boomer, I swear that you brought a tear to my eye when I finally got to watch this, OMG you are the best and the best teacher too. This has been by far the best series yet, you deserve an Oscar 👍🏻 Thank you for all that you do for all of use. Ron
I used to work on the Carrier, and this model of yours is marvellously accurate. FYI, she only did a rail journey on Mondays, and all her other trips were drop trailer. They left her rails in place when she stopped hauling rolling stock, and her final years were sad, as the company only attended to safety critical repairs, and let everything else rot. In my last year working for Seaspan, I used to go and visit her from time to time, as she was kept tied in a layover berth at the Tilbury terminal when she was pulled from service. She definitely was a good ol’ girl.
Thanks for the kind words - I appreciate it! At the moment I am installing quite a few lights on other parts of the layout. I never realized how cool it looks when you operate things in low ambient light. it takes things to another level of immersion. Cheers ~ Boomer.
It IS art. Spectacular brother boomer! The lighting is the icing. The cake is the rust & grime! The scene lighting as well with sparkling water dancing in the still of the night. The value of practical models vs CG that I do, model building is real, you can hold it, touch it. GCI is digital inside a machine viewed on a screen, it's not there. Beautiful beautiful work.. and engineering to get it all to work structurally & mechanically. 👍👍❤ Peace...
Congratulations on the build. I feel your emotions. It is so gratifying to attempt a build and have the results exceed your expectations. Thanks for sharing. 👍
I stumbled on your channel earlier this year while starting my model railroad adventure. I am in awe. The craftmanship, the love for the work, and the emotion, you had me well up a bit as well. 🙂 Thanks for sharing your work with all of us and hopefully more to come. From a fellow Canadian, thank you eh. Oh, and your video production skills are amazing as well, makes it a pleasure to watch all the great stuff you do.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and I can only hope that you are inspired. Glad to also hear you are starting your model railroad adventure because it is an awesome hobby we all share. Happy modeling to you! Cheers ~ Boomer. 👍
Well done Boomer, you should be very proud of what you have a accomplished with your layout and now the Princess. Look forward to seeing what you do next. Thank you for sharing.
Boomer, Thank you for sharing your Ideas, thoughts, Challenges, Techniques and Discipline on this beautiful piece of art. The figure that was shown looking toward the Princess I immediately thought of your Brother looking at and approving of your creative work.
Just a great episode to finish off the ship build. It is absolutely 3d Art, I love seeing the ship with its lights on, it's gives it such a presence. What cool views from inside the ship looking towards the locos & as you said at the side of the duck under..just jaw dropping. Can't wait for you to get back on with the Tug... Thank-you for sharing..what an inspirational series.
A superb stand alone model. The fact it connects seamlessly and electrically to the layout is just something else. Even if you had the room, a full sized ship in this scale would completely dominate, and it would become a ship model with an attached model railroad. Cheers
WOW what a fantastic build , very inspirational. I have to tell you that I've been going through some hard times. No place to do any modeling yet determined to get back at it when I'm back on my feet. Sometimes God sends people your way to assist in your journey. Thanks so much for what you do and share. Cheers
If it helps - I have built every single model on River Road on a two foot by four foot table, on a stool - in the corner of a small room. I never let any limitation stop me from modeling. I hope you can find a way. Cheers ~ Boomer. ;-)
Just incredible again Boomer, the dedication required to do a project this size at this level of detail is inspiring. You have done the princess and its crews proud.
Incredible build and in scale! I could never build this. Yet, I have learned techniques from you that I can use on my more simpler builds. You have opened my eyes to so much, and thank you for that. Dusty, you watch after Boomer to keep him on "track".
Boomer certainly has taught me a lot... opened my eyes to view things very differently... like with the paints & different mediums... know "what" it is and use it for many things... example, a box fan isn't just a box fan.. it's an air screw with a 120v 1500rpm variable speed motor. What can you use that for, other than a "box fan"??? The world has opened up. I really hope & pray he continues to share his knowledge as an artist, so we can apply it to our projects.
Congratulations Boomer. It’s easy to understand getting emotional at the end of the build. Examining the art of the model, the depth of detail, the paintwork, and the lighting which brings it to life…. It’s a creation of your own through your hands. It’s part of you. Wow! And Thank you.
That is the most amazing model. Just beautiful. I grew up watching the CP and Carrier Princess depart and arrive from Vancouver. I even remember that incident in Active Pass back in ‘76. Love the work you’ve done and throughly enjoyed watching the build. Beautiful boat and a signature scene on your layout. ❤❤❤❤
Over the Top.....shows...with perseverance....dreams really can.....Come true. Say.....have the model magazines caught wind of this yet and wanted an exclusive!? No matter.....Second Section will make light of this wonderful example of modeling heaven. Thank you, Boomer, for sharing your skills with us.
Superb work as always. I totally get you on the emotional part: I feel the same when I hear compliments about the hard work I made to achieve my layout.
Hi Boomer, Words really can not describe the build of The Carrier Princess. The model must be viewed too truly appreciate the craftsmanship that you have put into this build! From the perfectly placed rust spots too the incredibly detailed original parts that were on the ship itself, it surpasses anything I have ever seen anywhere, ever! The postage stamp effect to detail that you have emphasized from the beginning of your channel has never proved more true than what is seen on the Princess! And, as a last thought, you mention bookends. What a cool idea. But rather than the second half being of another ship, how about building the last half of the Carrier Princess? Thank you for sharing this marvelous build from beginning to end! I can safely say there is no other channel on UA-cam that even comes close to yours! You have no sponsorship, no adds, nothing! You just share with all of us from the goodness of your heart! And, I'm sure I speak for everyone who has followed your channel from the beginning, they know this to be true! Give Dusty another big hug for being the dedicated and silent partner of everything this channel represents! Cheers, you certainty deserve it!!!
Thank you Steven. Those are very gracious words and compliments you share. I am always glad to hear when other people feel inspired in some way from the channel. I appreciate the way you support the channel as well. Cheers ~ Boomer.
My goodness, Boomer; first your basic modeling reaches out and captures our imagination. Then your concept of sharing your craft takes us another step down the path with your artistry. Then again, your passion drives us down the road to try to capture some of this magic for ourselves in our own modeling. And finally, your willingness to teach how all this happens. My friend, this is a rare experience; sharing the emotion in your accomplishment. I find it a rare privilege to walk this path with you. Thank you. Thank you.
I'm gobsmacked. Congratulations, Boomer. Your modeling and video production are second to none. A legacy you should be duly proud of. I tip my hat to you Sir.
Great job!, what you have us used to! Instead of thanking those of us who see you, we are the ones who thank you for sharing your magnificent work. Surely you are the inspiration for many, I hope that the younger ones, who are not very involved in this hobby, see you and may be inspired by something so beautiful. There is something more than screens, tablets and cell phones that you can dedicate time to! Keep making videos!
I am happy for you; what a great project. The camera angels are a big plus, I have learned so much over the years I have been following you. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.
Boomer, the ferry is just awesome. It's so obvious by your words and the look on your face that you are so proud and happy how it's turned out. And that this success will inspire you further forward when you develope the next stage of River Road. I for one can't wait to see how it all pans out and l'm in no hurry either. I love the pace of your construction, and it's obvious from your incredible results that your way works brilliantly...for you Cheers Boomer.
Hi Boomer I'm so happy too, together with you my dear friend! The result justifies all your efforts 1000 times and rewards everything. "Another absolutely stunning and truely unique scratchbuilt !!!" THANKS a lot for sharing! 😉 Have a nice evening CHEERS, Olli✌️👍
My god, Boomer -- you've crafted a magnificent miniature world here. I first found your site when you were discussing chain-link fencing, and since then you've built everything from an HO scale tow-truck to a scratchbuilt scale ferry. You're a wonderfully skilled modeller but what I really enjoy is what I've come to regard as the zen of scale modelling. I first got a glimpse into it with Shep Paine's diorama sheets inside Monogram kits and then his first Kalmbach book on dioramas, and I realized that in addition to building an accurate scale model of a car or tank or railroad depot, what I was really trying to capture was a miniature slice of life. And you've embodied the natural 21st extension of that philosophy -- the zen of scale modelling. So you may not see it but I'm that little one inch high kid with a fishing pole and a mutt watching my bobber on the bank of River Road, catching the occasional switcher shunting dusty cars onto and off of the rail ferry -- and always at scale speed. Bravo, my friend, on your charming miniature world. And on sharing it with us. Respect.
Funny you mention Shep Paine. He was one of those military modelers, along with a few others, who inspired me as a kid to build Dioramas. Ray Anderson - The Art of The Diorama is another one, in which I read his book until it fell apart. I am still torn between sitting on the bank of a trout stream on a warm summer evening or modeling on River Road. ;-) Cheers ~ Boomer.
@@boomerdiorama My health has been crappy but I love living through your miniature world -- the zen has kept me going. Oh, did I forget to mention the scratchbuilt moose?!
@@randytaylor1258 Thank you. Oh yes . . . the Moose is on the Loose somewhere on the layout. I tend to move jhim around randomly so you have to watch for him. 😉
Tremendous build from a true master. After all the models you have made during your career, it's wonderful to see a project evoke emotion. You have reason to be gratified and proud. Thank you as always, Boomer, for your inspiration to all of us as viewers and passengers on the journey!
Dear Boomer, the Carrier Princess has become an absolute beaut of a feature on the River Road layout. Love the different aspects of the design, construction and build, as well as the details you’ve added and the marvelous paint job. Do very much appreciate the historical aspect of the modeling you’re doing. Can only imagine what that means by comparison, like my visiting the IJmuiden sea sluices as a little kid and watching the mechanics roll in and out, ships entering or departing. The vastness of the Thor Line ferries and their truck loads. Or, in later years whilst visiting Denmark and Sweden, rolling on and off the Puttgarden, or Helsingør ferries by train. Simply awesome. Love it! Cheerio
If you were to ask the question, "who is the modeler who is setting the standard for highly-detailed railroad models?", in the 1950s the answer would have been Jack Work or John Allen. In the 1970s the answer would have been George Sellios. Today, the answer - hands down - has to be the Boomer. I am awestruck.
John Allen was a great inspiration to me when I was a kid. I never knew you could take the railroad subject to that level until I saw his work. This hobby offers the greatest opportunity to any artist who attempts to reflect their passion with it. Thank you for sharing such a gracious compliment. Cheers ~ Boomer.
What an amazing addition to your layout. As always, thank you for sharing the build and your insights during its construction. I’m absolutely enjoying the River Road journey with you.
Congratulations on the completion of another part of the story Boomer, and thank you for your inspirational content and commitment to your chosen art form . A gift not wasted. I, like many others, look forward to the rest of the story unfolding….. 🙏 🇦🇺
Boomer, I've been following you for a while now and can solemnly say yours are my most looked forward to videos. This ferry build has been amazing, and you deserve all the credit you get. Simply beautiful to behold. James
Truly a work of art and was mesmerizing following this build. A museum piece without a doubt! Looking forward to the next chapters of River Road! A tremendous thank you for taking the time (which I know is significant) to put these videos together and share your passion, wisdom and knowledge with this community. You are a living legend Boomer!
Breath taking Boomer! You and this channel are the inspiration for me to be in this hobby. The Carrier Princess and River Road (and Glover Road) are artistic and modelling masterpieces.
I love watching you build stuff. I have learned so much about working with plastics from you that i was able to do a low cost repair on some keys of a Yamaha piano that saved me at least a hundred bucks. I can't wait to get back to model building. Looking forward to the next video.
You have every right to be proud of this build. It's superb and those of us watching have learned a great deal in the course of it. As modelers, we have a great opportunity to bring continued life to things that are gone.
@@boomerdiorama Storage, especially for people with cats is a good topic for a tutorial. And I have 3 cats, and one of them is a forever curious parkour expert. My little home office has sloped ceilings beginning at about 111 cm / 44 in above the floor, so I can't place my future shelf layout at a standing viewing height, unless I only use one wall only - about 3,6 m / 12 ft in length - for my layout. So it's either close the door when I'm not in the room; and even then it will be tough because the base of the layout will only be about 90 cm / 36 in above the floor, or build and L shaped rectangular shadowbox with a front cover that can be locked closed when I'm not around. Because my office window lets in the afternoon sun which my cats use every afternoon.
I've been amazed by the detail and precision of your layout and your observational skill, which elevates your work well above the norm. Really breathtaking. Learned so much. A UK admirer.
The railroad modeler displays his amazing talent. This is, in my humble opinion, the best model train channel on UA-cam. I wait paitently for eevry video to drop. I watch when I have the time to watch it without interuption others.
Congratulations and thank you for sharing your hobby with all of us. I really appreciate you. Masterpiece. You've inspired me to try my best when it comes to modelling. You helped me embrace my mistakes and learn from them. Thanks Boomer. Tug
Your Carrier Princess is a thing of beauty! The video prominently shows three flatcars used as spacers so the locomotives don't have to go onto the ferry, and they've seen better days - there's grass and moss growing on them. I don't remember you talking about those things, but you're a keen railroad observer! I've also seen cars in that condition, and used for that purpose.
I'm glad you noticed the small details, it's the little things that make a model interesting. I still need to work them over a little more as the grass was a last minute detail just before I produced the video. Cheers.
Congrats on the Carrier Princess. A wonderful journey you took us all on and for that I say thanks. I learned so much and in my dreams my boat looks good too! Well done my friend.
Building another ferry for library bookends!?! Wow, a glutton for punishment. LOL Did you every ride on Black Ball ferries? Thank you for sharing your modeling passion with all of us, and creating these marvelous stories. You truly are a huge inspiration for many of us.
I've only watched the opening and wanted to stop and say what a beautiful edit and I'm only 3 minutes in. Amazing what an amazing effort. Congratulations Boomer
Would love to see a typical 'operations day' at the yard but through the cab view of a switcher! 🤓Insane awesome detail and makes me feel I'm there! 😎👍
Hi Boomer. I have been following all of your builds from the start to finish. And I have to tell you that your dedication to even the tiniest of detail is inspiring. It really brings the model to life. Having said that, the grasses and mosses growing on the decks of the flat cars is true to reality. I would have never thought to do that. Thank you for many years of inspiration! Cheers.
What a tremendous build. Everything looks so authentic and natural. Your modeling skills are incomparable, you should be very proud of your accomplishment. Thanks for taking us along on this wonderful journey. Long live the Princess!
@@boomerdiorama I'm glad that you have completed it to your satisfaction, and that you brought us along on your journey. You could have built 3 layouts in the time it has taken you to build River Road AND document it for us. I'm on the other side of the Rockies but I feel like I live next door.
Boomer congratulations on this milestone. Having followed along, even I am feeling the emotions of accomplishment and victory and relief that it's done and has turned out to be the masterpiece I hoped it would be. Just spectacular. Take care - Bill.
I was planning on this one for years and I refused to put it down because I knew I could loose momentum and passion on it if I was distracted. I am quite pleased the way she turned out. Thank you. Cheers ~ Boomer.
Holy Moly, you are a true model craftsman Boomer. What an incredible build with very creative ingenuity. Fascinating nautical historical element to enrich the realism of the art form. Great video series. Beautiful work, awesome paint job and weathering details. I’m blown away! The lighting technique is superb! 5 stars and beyond buddy. 😃
I stumbled onto your channel a few weeks ago. Mainly a wargame miniature painter so YT doesn't feed me model railroads i guess =) Could ramble on and on how much i've learned and enjoyed the video's. Thank you for opening my mind to something other than buy mini's, paint mini's, rinse, repeat.
I can remember growing up as a kid when I used to paint "minis" on my mother's kitchen table. They were Historical Minis, nothing quite like the figurines you paint now. I used to paint lot's for my friends, and when I grew older I would sell them in bars to subsidize my tab . . . lol. People that usually do well in model railroading often have the history and practice you speak of. It is almost an natural transition, especially for military modelers as well. Welcome to the channel and thank you for supporting Boomer Diorama. I also appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts as well. Cheers ~ Boomer. 😁👍

I am still torn between sitting on the bank of a trout stream on a warm summer evening or modeling on River Road. ;-)
Cheers ~ Boomer.

My health has been crappy but I love living through your miniature world -- the zen has kept me going.
Thank you for the encouraging words and supporting the channel!
Love it! Cheerio
Thank you!
Nothing short of amazing beautiful no words can express the wonderful completion of this project 😊😅
Thank you for the compliment!
Truly art. The realism is outstanding. Thank you for the dim lighting shot at the end!
O.K. Those shots are difficult to pull off. I will try to do more down the road. Thank You!
Exceptional workmanship! Well done.
Thanks . . . I had some fun with it.
What an amazing addition to your layout. As always, thank you for sharing the build and your insights during its construction. I’m absolutely enjoying the River Road journey with you.
Thanks. I'm really enjoying building this layout too.
Congratulations on the completion of another part of the story Boomer, and thank you for your inspirational content and commitment to your chosen art form . A gift not wasted.
I, like many others, look forward to the rest of the story unfolding….. 🙏 🇦🇺
It is a long term project for sure! Cheers.
Boomer, I've been following you for a while now and can solemnly say yours are my most looked forward to videos. This ferry build has been amazing, and you deserve all the credit you get. Simply beautiful to behold.
James
Awesome, thank you James! Cheers ~ Boomer.
Thanks, I appreciate the compliments, and I am glad you're enjoying River Road!
Breath taking Boomer! You and this channel are the inspiration for me to be in this hobby. The Carrier Princess and River Road (and Glover Road) are artistic and modelling masterpieces.
Thank you Peter. You will soon have a blank canvas yourself to work on soon. ;-)
@@boomerdiorama it’s kinda scary to think about that lol but I have plenty of reference material to guide me along the way via Boomer Diorama :)
@@PeterTillman3 Will you be using foam or plaster for terrain?
@@boomerdiorama carved foam and sculpty just like in your vlogs. I don’t like the hard shell plaster scenery.
Simply breathtaking.
Many thanks!
You are an artist in the truest sense, my friend... 👍
Thank you!
I love watching you build stuff. I have learned so much about working with plastics from you that i was able to do a low cost repair on some keys of a Yamaha piano that saved me at least a hundred bucks. I can't wait to get back to model building. Looking forward to the next video.
That sounds awesome! Glad to hear the skill is transferable this way. That is remarkable. Thanks for sharing that. Cheers ~ Boomer. 😁
You have every right to be proud of this build. It's superb and those of us watching have learned a great deal in the course of it. As modelers, we have a great opportunity to bring continued life to things that are gone.
I appreciate that.
A brilliant model boomer I wish I had just a smidgen of your modelling prowess
Thank you!
I have watched the videos of this progress . Truly an amazing job . It looks just incredible . Quite jealous .
Thank you, I appreciate you watching the build progress!
Congratulations on completion of a really fine model. You have every reason to be proud of your work!
Thank you. I plan to share a short video that covers a little more on how I store it as well. Cheers.
What a great adventure! Watching her come to life, from nothing to completion, thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it!
Fantastic great job completing this huge task I really like you scratch built rather than 3D print
Thanks. It was a big one!
Outstanding job and workmanship. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks, it was a long road to get there.
Wow! That is the coolest thing!!!
Thank you.
Trabalho impecável..digno de rotular como o melhor do planeta no Scratch Building..💪
O.K. Thank you for sharing! Cheers ~ Boomer.
I hope you keep doing this. I appreciate your talent and instructions. Thanks
You're very welcome. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Потрясающе, у вас прекрасная работа!
Thank you! ~ Cheers ~ Boomer.
The Princess is a beautiful lady and looks to carry absolutely a dozen cars easily! She’s mesmerizing sir!👏👍😃
Thanks, she’s got a lot of cargo space and can carry a lot of weight, that's for sure!😉
I've been amazed by the detail and precision of your layout and your observational skill, which elevates your work well above the norm. Really breathtaking. Learned so much. A UK admirer.
Thank you!
Absolutely incredible and gorgeous! We feel your emotions through your passion. Thank you for sharing and taking us on your journey!
Thanks, it was a challenging project but it feels good to finish it!
Sweet kitty! ❤😺🎃
She is indeed!😁
The railroad modeler displays his amazing talent. This is, in my humble opinion, the best model train channel on UA-cam. I wait paitently for eevry video to drop. I watch when I have the time to watch it without interuption others.
Thank you very much!
So darn good! Like Magazine Cover Story good! And that final scene, with the lighting and the air horn! "Chef-kiss"
Thank you!
Congratulations and thank you for sharing your hobby with all of us. I really appreciate you. Masterpiece. You've inspired me to try my best when it comes to modelling. You helped me embrace my mistakes and learn from them. Thanks Boomer. Tug
Thank you for sharing that. I am glad to hear you are inspired as well! Cheers.
A phenomenal accomplishment, Boomer! She's perfect! ✨
Thank you. It really gives the layout more purpose now. ;-)
Thanks! Happy modeling to you too.
Building another ferry for library bookends!?! Wow, a glutton for punishment. LOL Did you every ride on Black Ball ferries?
Thank you for sharing your modeling passion with all of us, and creating these marvelous stories. You truly are a huge inspiration for many of us.
No. I never rode on those. It will be awhile before I attempt another Ferry for sure . . . lol. ;-)
Yes then re-attach for more fun !
I've only watched the opening and wanted to stop and say what a beautiful edit and I'm only 3 minutes in. Amazing what an amazing effort. Congratulations Boomer
Thanks! It is a bit of a challenge just to try and get the tone of the build to translate to the edit.
Epic build man! Absolutely nailed it! Beautiful work.
Thanks, it was a real challenge and the reward is an awesome feeling. ;-)
Would love to see a typical 'operations day' at the yard but through the cab view of a switcher! 🤓Insane awesome detail and makes me feel I'm there! 😎👍
I have been thinking about how to do that, and that may be a good future video! Cheers.
Thanks Boomer for sharing your work with us. You are an inspiration! Bill B.
Awesome! Thank you for sharing!👍😁
Cheers.
Thanks. It's the little details that make the difference . . . 😉

What a tremendous build. Everything looks so authentic and natural. Your modeling skills are incomparable, you should be very proud of your accomplishment. Thanks for taking us along on this wonderful journey. Long live the Princess!
Thanks, it was a lot of work!

I'm glad that you have completed it to your satisfaction, and that you brought us along on your journey. You could have built 3 layouts in the time it has taken you to build River Road AND document it for us. I'm on the other side of the Rockies but I feel like I live next door.
@@randytaylor1258 River Road is far from finished yet.😁
Boomer congratulations on this milestone. Having followed along, even I am feeling the emotions of accomplishment and victory and relief that it's done and has turned out to be the masterpiece I hoped it would be. Just spectacular. Take care - Bill.
Thank you Bill!
What a unique and intricate build. A work of art is an understatement ! Your channel is inspirational and a pleasure to watch. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing!
It is just ridiculous how good that Ferry is. The rest of the layout was incredible, but that is almost a joke it's that good.
I was planning on this one for years and I refused to put it down because I knew I could loose momentum and passion on it if I was distracted. I am quite pleased the way she turned out. Thank you. Cheers ~ Boomer.
Nicely done. Up there with one of my favorite scratch builds. Thanks for sharing the whole sequence.
Thank you and you are welcome!
Wow! What amazing work Boomer! Glad to see it all finished.
Thanks, I was a bit relieved when I finished too, lol.
Thank you so much for those kind words! I appreciate it.
I stumbled onto your channel a few weeks ago. Mainly a wargame miniature painter so YT doesn't feed me model railroads i guess =)
Could ramble on and on how much i've learned and enjoyed the video's.
