I wanted to see them together old. Whenever the time comes when Meredith gets Alzheimer's like her mother , derek will be there comforting her and help her remember . But no, he died because of a surgeon being late and he went to an unprepared hospital. I'm done, why am I watching this?

Actually I think the way he died was probably intended to a honor at how good he was at his profession. I think it probably meant he took down a huge part of neurosurgery with him and that nobody could even be close to how efficient he was in his field.
It's so sad how they just killed Derek. Meredith totally deserved a happy ending, I mean after all she's been through?? It's just not the same anymore like wtf 3/4 of the original main cast are either gone or dead.
I think this was Greatest Proposal ever! All the stuff he said about her was true she is dark and twisty but it's a gift love Meredith! A lot of people where waiting for this for a long time!! I'm still trying to get caught up but Finally I saw even though this is old news to some but new for others like me!! Love this show
He got to spend the rest of his life, with the woman who he loved and acted most about in this world. Whereas Meredith only got to spend a short amount of her life with someone who helped her grow, someone who she loved unconditionally, her mentor, her husband and the love of her life. She respected him like nothing else in the world mattered, she always looked for him in all situations. It’s so sad that they never get to grow old together and that he won’t be here to remind Meredith who Derek is every day!!!
you know whats really amazing about this scene? its that he didnt delve straight back to a big romantic gesture listening to everybody else and following his natural character to go down on one knee, he stood back and did what he knew meredith wiuld love. and it was awesome!
When he talks about how her dark and twisty side is a strength, it just makes me cry everytime. And the way he says "I love you Meredith Grey". Like it's the most obvious thing in the world. This was just the perfect way he could have done it.
When he died, I cried buckets of tears. It's not easy saying goodbye to the love of your life, your reason for living. It cut me to the core because of the similarities to my own husband's passing. It's been many years now but the missing never quite fades. The scars are always there on my broken but healed heart.

This was amazing. Surrounded by brain scans and a bunch of lives saved together... this is the best ever proposal they could have done on this show. Brilliant writers. Amazing.
AHH finally what we've all been waiting for, for five seasons!!!!!! there is no better way to do it, especially since the elevator is practically made for merder! and when i first watched the episode when he said "this is katie bryce" i IMMEDIATELY remembered the first episode and the first surgery and i just screamed with excitement :)

I got accidentally spoiled for his death, and I'm only on season 8! I'm gonna be so crushed. MerDer is endgame. He gave her such strength. Meredith bloomed and grew so, so much with him, and she will always know him as her first true soulmate. Rest in peace, Derek. If I were the writer, Derek would never have died and he and Mer would've grown old together in that house with their kids and Mer wouldn't have tested positive for the gene.
💔 I wish Derek had been killed on impact, not because I didn't want to hear his thoughts but because he deserved better. He had a chance to live and the show (and the doctors) screwed it up - either kill him instantly and let us know there's no chance of him living, or have excellent surgeons do everything possible and then tell us he won't live. Don't let us watch inexperienced surgeons f*ck up and let him die when there was a GOOD CHANCE he would've lived had they done the right things.

I actually think the cruel irony of it made the death more morbid and tragic. It really broke my heart to see him go like that-Patrick Dempsey is just one of those actors who know how to carve a place in your heart.

The fact that Derek decorated that entire elevator, didn't ask the cliched "Will you marry me?" question, and didn't get down on one knee? Incredible. People would have been using that elevator all day and saw all that. The more interesting point would be how the hell did they get all that done and Merideth not know about it with as gossipy as that hospital is.
