I love that when Megamind sees that Metroman is "trapped", he genuinely doesn't believe it and takes it as some kind of trick. And yes, even though it's revealed later in the movie that Metroman was tricking everyone, it just goes to show that deep down, there was a part of Megamind that genuinely believed he would never beat Metroman, so when he sees him "stuck", he's taken aback because he never thought he'd win.
When you're defeated before you've lost, you've already lost or something.

There was a DS9 episode where Bashir was on the holodeck acting out a Bond fantasy. Well transporter magic plunked the crew's bodies into the character's forms so to stall Bashir pulled the switch on the bad guy's doomsday device. The Bond Villian kinda chuckled and basically admitted deep down he never thought he'd actually win.

Yeah, I love it. In fact, the whole scene took a turn from cartoonish silly movie (where Megamind is at an obvious hideaway) to more serious (Megamind counted on Roxanne to reveal where she thought they were), and then the death ray is actually terrifyingly destructive, all because of how silly everything started out. It's a neat twist. Contrast is effective. That's why otherwise lame jokes become funny in good horror movies.

You know, watching this, you realize Megamind isn’t really “Evil” he’s a super villain yes, but he seems more like a heel wrestler, acts like a villain but generally harmless and fights a “face” in this case metroman.

Did anyone in the comments section actually watch Megamind? His entire conflict was that this was all a game to him, and never thought there would actually be a consequence. This is also why he is shocked when he sees that Tighten wants to genuinely kill him.
Considering his upbringing he probably idolize heel wrestlers and metal bands growing up and used their styles as inspiration.

This is an INCREDIBLY UNDERRATED movie.
I love the detail the devs put in this scene. In 4:46, the explosion light is so intense and bright, that it goes straight through the Minion, and you can see his skeleton.

To be fair, even though he did escape, if it weren’t for the slow warmup, Metroman would still be screwed
I mean, look at how fast he is though, he went and did a whole weeks or more worth of things in a second. Pretty sure he could dodge it given mega-mind had warned him. The funny thing is though, mega-mind didn't need to do any of that. He knew that metro-man would be at his grand opening, and he had bots in the crowd watching him. If he'd just fired it then without giving warning, it might've been more effective.

Love how you can see minions Skeleton when the death ray hits
Know that I think about it, this feels more like an ongoing theatrical play than a battle.
Its because Metro Man didn't took it seriously and went along with it since no one else was willing to fill his shoes until he faked his death as he grew tired of being a superhero that was forced into him.
Remember, Superman was in the same situation when he grew older as he found out how much power he had, and he took the responsibility. You know why, because he, just like Metroman, was born on a distant planet but was destroyed. That’s the reason why Metroman became a hero, because he knew the powers he had, he knew that there would be some type of responsibilities. But the difference between him and Superman, Metroman didn’t care about the responsibilities he was given, even though they were right in front of him the whole time, and that’s why he faked his death, because he thought that if he was forced to take these responsibilities, so could someone else.
Superman's main challenge as a fully-grown adult was to _control_ his power so he didn't kill or seriously wound everyone he fought; not actually defeating his enemies.
there's a few enemies that are a serious threat to him, like Doomsday and perhaps Darkseid when he's working alongside Lex Luthor (only sometimes) but for the most part Superman can easily defeat anyone who doesn't have a piece of Kryptonite or some kind of "magic" weapon that can overcome his invulnerability, such as hawkgirl's mace.

You can't convince me that Megamind and Metroman don't lie awake at night in bed, stare at the ceiling, and come up with every possible banter counter for each other.

Little detail, somewhere in the 3:04 or 3:05, if you look closely you can see Metroman disappear for a fraction of a second on the big screen and appearing behind megamind. This implies later that he went into super speed to reevaluate his decision to fake his death.
I really like how the music that leads up to Megamind unveiling to Metroman his plot starts off with the orchestra playing in a major key, then switching to the minor key early on. It mirrors the leadup that his life had by starting off trying to be good, but turning to evil because that was what was expected of him.
I like how he was genuinely relieved for a second when he thought Metro Man lived. These dudes are pretenemies.

It's clear that Megamind and Metroman don't genuinely hate each other, they just enjoy playing hero and villain with each other. They are literally having a playdate in front of the whole city and Metroman's death was like him saying "I don't wanna play with you anymore."
You can really see the insane amount of detail that went into this movie, like at 4:47 when the observatory explodes you can see Minion's fish skeleton for a moment
The best part for me is Megamind saying they don't give out kidnap discounts anymore lol
The *anymore* is the bit that really sells it. Like, at some point he was in fact offering some kind of return on being kidnapped multiple times, and Roxanne benefitted from it frequently.
Megamind gave every encounter his all but it still was so easy for Metroman I can definitely see him getting bored.

Ok I think I get it about Megamind and Metro Man in this scene,
Metro Man:
So a hero named Metro Man has been doing his hero thing for years, but at this scene, he got exhausted of being a hero and saving Roxanne from Megamind, so he used his super speed to fake his death and to be a music maker instead, and back at the button of doom short film, when Minion was looking for the remote, you can hear Music Man (Metro Man) singing.
Megamind:
So with this villain with a big mind, the reason he does evil because he is only good at doing bad things back at his childhood, and he seems to do it just for fun, and when Metro Man faked his death and tricked everyone in the city even Megamind, he was not expecting to actually win, and without Metro Man, he got bored, and grabbed Metro Man’s cape for his DNA to make another hero, and so that’s also how Titan a.k.a. Hal Stewart was born.
