Anyone who asks you has NEVER had a job, and is most likely a teen/kid. It's not as easy as "getting it" not to mention the points you had. He can't just fix things because he gets hired either, he would NEVER get put in management, and also he'd instantly be silenced if he was put into a community manager role. Wtf kind of question is that?
Have you ever thought about getting together with some other major players in destiny - some of the top streamers for pvp and pve - and trying to do a weekly or biweekly podcast where you talk about the current state of destiny from the players perspective, the upcoming news/rumors for the game and maybe even where you would like to see it go or what you would like to see implemented. He speaks to the Bungie, but nobody ever said that the Bungie spoke to him. Datto is a guy with a lot of insight and entertaining content on youtube. Chill out guys!
Datto, as cool as it would be to have a job at bungie or be a part of that experience. It wouldn’t be as impactful to the public as what you are currently doing (my opinion) I think your content brings us great information and breakdowns of the content unlike any other we’ve had. So just be true to you and keep doing what you like. :)
So since you have zero game design experience and minimal coding experience. What did you graduate with in college since you didn’t mention it and I am curious. The only position I think you’d actually be qualified for is community manager since you have experience managing a community. But outside of that I don’t know what they would hire you for. You’re not gonna get tossed into a management position right off the start. You don’t can’t code, animate, or do anything 3D modeling most likely. Anyone saying just get a job at Bungie has probably never had a job or never applied for one. Unless you’re applying for some minimum wage job, there’s usually minimum job requirements/skill/experience required.
Loved your honest, humble video. I think that bungle needs to recognise how important you tubers are for its community and to work out how to utilise the experience and ideas that you all have. Your job is to think about the game and how it could be improved. I'm surprised they don't occasionally bring you in as consultants so that they can improve their offering for their customers.
It's funny. A while back, I wrote a pretty extensive fanfic in the Destiny universe. 51 chapters later and some "decent" play on Reddit, I've had to answer the question a few times as well. My answer was more in the ballpark of "they're not looking for writers..." and "I'd lose control." Much like you. Yeah I'm really happy people enjoyed my work but they don't want me. I'm a fire alarm technician and I enjoy that.
Datto, I frequent your channel a lot. You're really the only UA-camr where I feel I want to stop what I'm doing and watch your newest upload when I get a notification. Don't stop! I've talked with you before via Facebook, and feel we share a lot of the same ideals. All that to say, you keep doing you. May not mean much coming from a random fan, but you got me started in Destiny. I have my quirks but I hope the game makes a 180 someday...
Had a position there that was a perfect fit for me. Never got even a response from them. Good thing you actually got the conversation going man. Really hoping D2 eventually makes a comeback for streamers and youtube. Having a thriving content creator community is crucial for the game in the long run...
being part of the raid team would be fun...coming up with new mechanics and areas, building the best piece of content in the game...you could at least be a "brainstorm" lead because you definitely have opinions and ideas when it comes to that lol
Datto, perhaps you should be a part time raid/strike consultant type thing where they call you up, you check out the raid, strike, whatever, and you can tell them how to make it better for investment type players AKA THE PEOPLE THAT KEEP THE GAME AFLOAT!! I think you'd be able to help them make it more fun and last longer.
Datto, we all love you. You are such an asset to the community as a UA-camr and as a person. You bring such a unique perspective to the game and to other people as a whole, it’s amazing. I think you are a fantastic person and should do whatever your heart is in. If you love YT (you do) keep going! If you love Twitch (you do) keep going!! Much love from UT brotato ❤️
Terrible workplace environment, terrible salary and benefits at low level positions, trash management, the better question is why WOULD you get a job at Activision?
Well, I'm a bit confused. Was this a sarcastic video through and through? The whole thing I mean; as a genius meta-commentary on 'how Bungie has underperformed recently'. My mind says it must be, but you sound serious in some parts. Because who, is his right mind, would suggest to a relatively successful youtuber to go work for a company with questionable future? Other than a bunch of 8:36 'beautiful children'.
Niel Ivarez since the very beginning of destiny people have been asking datto to apply to Bungie. They were never being truly serious, but the idea was that he has good ideas and Bungie is fucking stupid sometimes. It wasn't realistic, it was idealistic.
Thank you for the response. It makes more sense now. People, watching Datto talk about good ideas for D1 experienced the game's improvement over time. And some, mentally associated these two. I get that. The thing is, and I believe many would agree, right now Bungie doesn't lack in the good-ideas department. Almost every good idea we players talk about in D2, Bungie already knows. And they have known them for a long while. They just consciously choose to/have to not implement most of them. Anyway, enough rant :p
Niel Ivarez I completely agree and it's frustrating. The fact that the game's downfall rests on extremely poor decision making, especially when Bungie knows what the community wants, is really infuriating. Watching Bungie dump the past 3-almost-4 years of community feedback and improvement down the toilet... It's sad, hilariously stupid, and like I said, frustrating.
That is sad indeed. The reason I'm leaning towards believing that this progress-dumping has been a conscious decision is what I've been hearing on multiple podcasts from different developers. I used to separate 'developers' from 'publishers, in my mind; but nowadays I don't think that's the case. They seem to be in the same bed working towards the same goal. Which is, of course, maximising profit. Let's hope we are wrong in thinking that.
One great example of a community leader turned studio employee is Jeff Kaplan. He was a guild leader WoW(?) and had tons of issues with the game. Eventually, Blizzard gave him a job because they realized that having somebody come in from a community point of view is extremely valuable.
Before I even watch the video just got to say thanks for all the hard work you and your teammates have done for the destiny community at large. Your damage comparisons for d1 especially and though d2 for the most part is incomplete and feeling like it was sabotaged from the get,(I’ve played rpgs that have counter bars for selling stackable items since I was 12 and I’m 30 wtf bungie shaders, 4v4 pvp I’m looking at you actovision so when’s the next cod 2 month after d2 drops....and just blizzard) you still manage to make it somewhat digestible. In my honesty opinion the story has always been the backbone of a good game. A good story is often never told by a person who lacks the courage and conviction to spin the tail. I can’t help but feel cheated by loosing gramoier along with spellcheck. It opened up more opportunities to learn more about what you were doing and the reason why, driving the player to not only a satisfying kill but a fuller feeling of accomplishment. Yeah, I feel like bungie needs to stop taking advice from outside sources, do something groundbreaking like finish the story just saying there still seems to be room for a new speaker, maybe a guardian.
Datto do you, Bungie can wait. D2 is that bad bc it use to support streamers, use to support large audiences, use to keep me and all of my friends on Xbox and PS4 busy for hours. It's no coincidence that none of those above mentioned items are no longer true. The game shifted way too much in the wrong direction.. way too much for the casual, way too much for the "masses" that it alienated the core/base players that kept the game alive. All those that complained about D1 got what they wanted.. and in return it tanked one of the best games. Lesson learned? I hope so, Bungie.. go back to the D1 concept even if the game is not 100% balanced.. stop listening to casuals.. they don't play enough and shouldn't get to effect the game bc they scream/cry the loudest.
danbar12345 honestly me as a casual gamer, liked the grind of d1 cuz it kept the streamers alive which kepty favorite game relevant. I may not have gotten all the raid gear or gone flawless but I really enjoyed the game and the community because everyone wanted to keep play the game back then TL:DR I'm casual, and like a grindy d1 more than a casual d2 because it's good for the content creators and community
Up until last summer, I would have thought that Bungie had more appreciation for the hard core players and youtubers like Dato, the guys that helped to make the first game that grate community experience that it was. It was a unique selling point for Destiny and Bungie threw that all out of the window in search for the casual crowed. It might have worked out financially in the sort term, but it hurt the brand massively. I logged on today and not a single one of my clan was on or has been on since reset. All people with 2500+ hours in Destiny 1. I hope for the sake of us AND for the people covering the game, organizing the community and giving it a voice, that Bungie gets back on track.
Insightful video. I think most of us Destiny players and fans would love to be 'that person' that can sort of command the team to make changes x, y and z that would 'fix' the game. I know I would, but as you alluded to, my vision is about all I would be able to bring to the table and that's probably not enough to work at Bungie. Then again someone needs to be that person that knows this is how the game needs to be and delegate to those to 'make it so'. But then as you also alluded to, the reality is they've probably heard either internally or from the community on forums (assuming they can sift through all the #removeeververse crap.) P.S. run out of Destiny content? Hog wash. Still need an exotic weapon tier list, best legendary weapons for each class list.
I met one of the people that worked on the Social media/community team. He said his two favorite days there was his first...and his last. As far as enjoyment, confidence and all that...it was the worst job he ever had. He said "This community crushed my soul more and more every day. I don't think I was ready to handle a lot of the toxicity and negativity from the community." That mess broke my heart. Although, I will say, working at a game studio is pretty awesome. Even smaller/indie ones.
You’re right. Because at this point, you are speaking on behalf of everyone in the Destiny community. I can’t just go on Bungie’s twitter page or on reddit and start ranting, that’s not gonna make any progression towards change when there’s something wrong with Destiny. Your voice speaks for all of us and you’re a pretty popular Destiny critic/player/streamer yada yada yada. You and the community have a lot in common, as far as what we like and don’t like. The point is, your voice will be heard more than ours. And it’s an icing on the cake that your Destiny videos and your commentary is the best out of all Destiny UA-camrs out there. You don’t do clickbait stuff and you only have minimal sponsorships which makes your videos have less ads. Thanks Datto!
sorry but the reality is streamers and youtubers have ruined destiny. they might have kept it alive for as long as it has been but the core game has changed due to the hardcore 360 no scope pvp community. 4 v 4 is a direct result of the complaining about pvp. no more random rolls is directly due to pvp. heavy weapons gone because of pvp. i like datto and ive been subscribed since year 1 beta but thems the facts. we turned a pve focused game into a confused pvp shooter that just isnt that great. destiny could have been great but the pvp community made that impossible.
I wouldn't blame streamers directly, it's more like the whole competitive community that causes these problems. Destiny tried to pull in the competitive shooter players with Iron Banner and Trials, and that's where all the meta huggers who obsess over balance came from. I see that as a mistake, as making Destiny a better competitive shooter would mean it loses the inherent inbalance of an RPG-styled game. Now, I wish they would do better at balance, but honestly I would be happy with an unbalanced game if there is more than just a handful of truly powerful weapons and armor. I don't want true balance, because it would feel underwhelming if the gun you grinded 30 hours for is only slightly better than the rare guns that drop from everything (or worse, not better at all) but it would be nice if the top tier of weapons was more varied
stevecurtiss622 Complaining doesn't mean kill the game. Bungie took the easy way out and made fixes rolls, single heavy ammo use, 1 rocket ammo, slower ability recharge and 2 primaries. Complaining caused bungie to change it but bungie changed it in the worst way possible. " you want more primary gun fights? Here have 2 primaries..."
Another good video Datto! You could always do voice-over, TV, or radio, or something if you fizzle out on you tube. You have the personality for it! Cheers man!

GMRcris I believe he mentioned it in a previous video as acting
Josephus Washington never saw that video. If he did go to college/university for acting I never would have guessed tbh.
He was in TV production and went to school for it IIRC
GMRcris I think he graduated with a film degree or something like that. Something related to TV.
In his "Retrospective on Destiny" video, he mentioned graduating with a film & TV degree.
I don’t give a fuck as long as datto doesn’t quit UA-cam we Gucci
Bungie just couldn't pay Datto
I just keep coming back for these video descriptions
I don’t even know! - jeffy
Fuck you.
I've been enjoying the new content daddo ! Keep it up
Booty Messiah The II u obviously never played destiny 1 and watched UA-cam back in the day
Bolt lmao what, i have over 4k hours on d1 son. Nice try
Bolt There really wasn’t much more content on D1 either..there was the few “how to” videos per expansion and that was it. And it’s the same now.
Had a position there that was a perfect fit for me. Never got even a response from them. Good thing you actually got the conversation going man. Really hoping D2 eventually makes a comeback for streamers and youtube. Having a thriving content creator community is crucial for the game in the long run...
Datto why don't you get a job at Bungie?
i love videos like this where you just sit down and talk. i wouldn't mind more content like this.
8:07 when he touches your Shrek DVDs
Hey! Stop that
being part of the raid team would be fun...coming up with new mechanics and areas, building the best piece of content in the game...you could at least be a "brainstorm" lead because you definitely have opinions and ideas when it comes to that lol
Forget Bungie, work at IGN and continue your UA-cam too (like Destin and Fran)!!! #FireTeamChat
Datto for president
Alex Germane stolen from Mr. Fruit
Not 35 and won't be by 2020
AJ Slays lol
Datto, we all love you. You are such an asset to the community as a UA-camr and as a person. You bring such a unique perspective to the game and to other people as a whole, it’s amazing. I think you are a fantastic person and should do whatever your heart is in. If you love YT (you do) keep going! If you love Twitch (you do) keep going!! Much love from UT brotato ❤️
But the question still remains: Datto, Why Don't You Just Get a Job at Activision?
NO
Oh how the turntables
this didn’t age well
Terrible workplace environment, terrible salary and benefits at low level positions, trash management, the better question is why WOULD you get a job at Activision?
honestly Datto's hair explains his channel, it does no disappoint
Because they don’t want him
I actually really enjoyed your last video on Midnight. Please upload more.
He doesn't have the qualifications
I may not have gotten all the raid gear or gone flawless but I really enjoyed the game and the community because everyone wanted to keep play the game back then
TL:DR
I'm casual, and like a grindy d1 more than a casual d2 because it's good for the content creators and community
Honestly .8s shouldn't try to balance the game or cry something bc they can't aim or have no game sense bc they are bad not something is unbalanced
Ikora Rey completely agreed
Cry more you big baby
Anything the community could gain by having Datto work at Bungie would never be worth loosing this channel.
We love you Datto
We appreciate the work you already put in for the Destiny community as it is. I'd hate to see your videos and streams disappear if you left for Bungie
Datto is such a cutie 😏
LeHomardFurtif I agree
LeHomardFurtif fr everywhere like me
LeHomardFurtif creepy
Andrew Kappler weirdo with no sense of humor
Gaaaay
You already tried and got turned down... right Joker xD
But then as you also alluded to, the reality is they've probably heard either internally or from the community on forums (assuming they can sift through all the #removeeververse crap.)
P.S. run out of Destiny content? Hog wash.
Still need an exotic weapon tier list, best legendary weapons for each class list.
Answer: cause he's a UA-camr
I met one of the people that worked on the Social media/community team. He said his two favorite days there was his first...and his last. As far as enjoyment, confidence and all that...it was the worst job he ever had. He said "This community crushed my soul more and more every day. I don't think I was ready to handle a lot of the toxicity and negativity from the community." That mess broke my heart. Although, I will say, working at a game studio is pretty awesome. Even smaller/indie ones.
Datto: "I like doing UA-cam, a lot"
*hasn't uploaded anything significant in a while*
You’re right.
4 v 4 is a direct result of the complaining about pvp. no more random rolls is directly due to pvp. heavy weapons gone because of pvp. i like datto and ive been subscribed since year 1 beta but thems the facts. we turned a pve focused game into a confused pvp shooter that just isnt that great. destiny could have been great but the pvp community made that impossible.
stevecurtiss622 totally agree
Best comment yet, totally agree
It's a pve game right now the raids are great and it's dying all the pvp streamers have left and destiny is at its lowest point explain that?
Another good video Datto! You could always do voice-over, TV, or radio, or something if you fizzle out on you tube. You have the personality for it! Cheers man!
Reasons Datto doesn't work at Bungie.
Reason One: Bungie doesn't want Datto?
Glad to hear you "get it" and understand what you are good at, and that the guys at Bungie aren't just waiting for someone like you to come along and save them. Keep up the good work!
Don’t think even you can fix the pile of shit known as destiny 2
I wish I could tell you the story, of how much your content has help me become a better shot in an fps, since day one of destiny alpha, day zero.
Mainly an amazing influence.
if you have a double digit IQ you are already more qualified that the management at bungee
"Hey guys, remember that time we rebooted destiny 1 and it all went to shit? Well, have I got an idea for you..."
Showcase Management Datto, or anything that interacts with the community. You've built a voice and presence in the industry. So showcasing games or streams and responding to the community is always a possiblity. Explainin mechanics during the showcase etc. Don't sell yourself short my dude. Creative ideas is part of any studio. Or you can keep building YOUR brand and eventually expand with sponsors and deals and start a small company and grow. You did your 5 year plan, here's another 5 year to you and your brand my dude.
Bungie does not know da wae
I spit at them
Dmci R they be da deval
Datto, I'm an old dude. 50, and I've learned a lot from you. I marvel at your very technical mind and I have greatly enjoyed your videos. I'm a D1 season one player and I've shared your wisdom with other old dudes who play this game. Just wanted to give you the cudos that you deserve and tell you that you'd make an awesome addition to the Destiny team. They should hire you. Heck, they've already stolen one of your ideas and given us the strike that produced the search for the amazing ImagoLoop. :) Keep up the great work young man and God Bless
Why? Bcs they wont hire Datto
That start sarcasm is me everytime someone brings up working. In the same boat without a youtube channel though when it comes to jobs experience
Daddo knos da wae
One for the memes, And memes for ALL!!!!
I think your "non-content" is probably some of my favorite stuff from you.
Idk the chill talks are always neat.
