This is one of the most astounding productions I have ever seen. Having the console in the middle of an otherwise empty nave with Mr. Penin wearing only a white shirt and black trousers gives an aura of humility and respect for this astounding Fantaisie and amazing Cavaille-Colle instrument. Mr. Penin clearly has utmost respect for both and gives, I think, the most profound interpretation that exists of this highly introspective work. He is one with the console and plays with an intimacy and Love that is rare. He lets the music breathe into the space and does not rush anything. His dramatic pauses illuminate the organization of the writing. He has burrowed into the heart and soul of that great Maitre Franck, and allows his own hands, feet, and heart to become extensions of Franck's own. He is a humble servant yet a formidable musician. The videography is superb and flows in unison with the music. We see Mr. Penin's face reflect the most sublime intimacy with the music - he is in another world. And having his image dissolve after the last chord has run its course is a stupendous bit of genius. It is almost as if an angel has descended from heaven to release this music into this profoundly beautiful and spiritual space, then disappeared to return. I have run out of words to describe this fabulous production. BRAVO!!!!!

L'orgue de César Franck ! Agrandi depuis, certes, mais non pas dénaturé je trouve, la beauté des fonds et de la Voix Humaine !!!
QUEL MAGNIFIQUE SON POSSÈDE CET INSTRUMENT !! Comme à Saint-Ouen de Rouen, Saint-Sulpice à Paris, Saint-François-de-Salle à Lyon, pour ne citer qu'eux. L'excellente qualité de la prise de son joue également.
Le tempo général adopté est assez lent, paisible, on pourrait envisager un poil plus rapide, mais c'est un choix, quelques fois en effet il y a un peu de précipitation dans certaines interprétations.
La Flûte Harmonique en solo n'est pas indiquée dans la partition de l'époque, on reste juste sur des jeux de fonds claviers accouplés.
Je comptais justement apprendre ce morceau dans quelques temps, je suis organiste également, non pas en tant que professionnel, mais prof de piano et ancien organiste.
MERCI INFINIMENT, Olivier, du fond du cœur, pour ce concert sur cet exceptionnel instrument, pour nous tous confinés !!

Que dire de plus qui n'ait déjà été dit?! Tout est parfait!.. Jusqu'au choix des chaussettes rouges qui font admirablement ressortir le travail des chevilles d'Olivier Penin! 😁 Il n'y a guerre que l'incongruité de cette console de nef au clavier de chamades muet (certes bien inutile ici) qui nous empêche de voir dans cet admirable exécution César Franck lui-même jouant sa composition sur le chef-d'œuvre de Cavaillé-Coll!

C'est très beau à voir et à écouter. La console amovible est un réel progrès dont on se demande pourquoi elle ne se généralise pas pour les grandes tribunes (Notre-Dame, Trinité, Sacré-Coeur, etc).

C'est un "Hauptwerk"
Plus d'un an s'est déjà écoulé depuis cette vidéo qui m'avait redonné le moral en plein confinement, depuis j'ai appris cette Fantaisie, sans doute que je ne la joue pas aussi parfaitement que cela, mais je mesure à présent toutes les subtilités que vous apportez à la registration. Je dispose d'une console 3 claviers manuels Hoffrichter et du logiciel Hauptwerk, avec l'échantillonnage, entre autres, de l'orgue Cavaillé-Coll de Saint-Étienne de Caen. Dans ma jeunesse j'ai été l'élève de Jean Langlais pendant une année scolaire, et bien qu'ayant abandonné la musique classique très longtemps, et m'y être remis pour devenir (modestement) prof de piano dans plusieurs écoles, je me suis remis à l'orgue depuis deux ans pour mon seul plaisir. En ce moment je peaufine le splendide Choral n°3 de Franck, et j'attends impatiemment un enregistrement de cette pièce de votre part, dont je sais que vous y apporterez votre touche personnelle. Probably. Since Franck was so specific with his registrations, if you were to accurately follow them you should naturally end up using only stops from Franck's time. Anyway, purism aside, I echo your sentiments: It was a stunning rendition with an instrument to match.
