I am really glad to hear that. This is the first time I made a tutorial for something and I didn't really know how useful it would be. Thanks for the feedback!
Thank you for the feedback! And yes, placing the center of mass lower is a neat thing to do I learned later on as well. Makes for faster possible speeds in curves without derailing.
I'm admin on a server and it doesn't have the tool to make the wheels super icy and weld may cause a bit of server lag ... could I no collide the wheels to the cube and then axis it to the baseplate. Also taking note that my 1st train is built similarly. Add me on steam if you wish to join me and we can talk about it in steam pm. Assortedark74 is my username
Tbh, I thought the wheels needed to actually spin, so I was welding them to the side of a crappy box I made, and it all glitched into a flailing welded mess. My problems are solved! (Y not use super DUPER icy ice instead of super ice?)
A question, plz answer. Do you parent every prop, exept from the moving parts, some wiremod, like for example,if i am building a train from scratch, would i have to parent the cab, the stairs, etc? And if you do, wouldnt they fall thorugh the world Like mine?
You parent every prop that is not physical (including wiremod stuff) to a wire gate that is placed on the baseplate. Then you parent that wire gate to the baseplate. It is VERY important that you do not parent the baseplate/bogies/wheels or any other physical prop. Here's a good parent tutorial should you still run into problems: ua-cam.com/video/DFAoWQXBJz0/v-deo.html
How do you use the precision alignment tool to snap the wheels into the bogies? I have been having a difficult time figuring out half of this stuff. Edit: NVM just figured it out
If you want smooth turning wheels you have to do something extra. Make sure you still have the welded and icy wheels and add another set of wheels that are axis centre on the same place as the welded wheels. Make the weight of these turning wheels about 500 and keep the rest of the weights the same as in the video. Then you can make the welded wheels invisible. How this works is that the (invisible) welded wheels will carry all the weight and the turning wheels will turn due to friction with the tracks (so it's very important the turning wheels are not icy). If you'd make turning wheels that carry the weight without welded icy wheels to support them the train will bounce all over the place and derail due to derpy source engine physics. I hope this is somewhat clear to you. I'm planning to make a tutorial for this too one day.
Hold E with your physic gun and rotate with your mouse, if you want it to be precise, then hold shift + e and rotate with your mouse. Hope this helped.
I have honestly never heard of a non steam gmod. If it means a gmod without the steam workshop to download the necessary addons then I'm afraid you're going to have a hard time making something like this.
@@themechanist7875the thing that doesn't work for me is the precision thing but I'm doing everything you do and it suppose to move on there but when I press move entity it said error I dont know what error though
@@liannebruehl If you can press the "move entity" button but it gives an error it's maybe something with your points not set correctly. Would like to be able to help more but it's a bit hard to tell what it is exactly if i can't see what's going on in-game. Perhaps you can check the precision alignment tutorial videos for something you've missed. If you really can't get it to work keep in mind precision alignment isn't required to do it, i just use it because i find it the easiest to work with. Thanks! I accepted your friend request on steam btw. I see you have played on RealBuilders before :P
@@themechanist7875 What map is that
the train keeps flying off the track no matter what i do, the weight is the exact same and the wheels are super ice.
same, it does that whenever it reaches a turn
Very useful. I need to get myself that weight tool, I keep saying no, but I'm literally procrastinating over a video game. Yeet.
How do i align the train with the rails?
Neat. Keep it up! I like to place the mass center of the train the lowest possible also ;)

2017 edit: I changed my account name from MentleGen Man to The Mechanist. This is an old video so it still has my old name in the credits.

Don't worry, everything in that video still works the same as today. The menu just has a diffirent color.
oh, sorry for shouting
Hello. Nice tutorial. Can you make a tutorial of how you make the trains you make with the Wiremod?
Thanks
I'm a little late but, I've having trouble finding the add-ons on steam workshop for gmod
it's broken anyhow.

How did you change the wheels appearance?
Hold C to open the context menu. Then you can right click on the wheel prop and change the body group.
Very Helpful!
Why I can't click "Move Entity"?
AMAZING NIGHTCORE because u didn’t right click on the wheels so u can move it to the box prop
