Lin actually made a song that was cut from Hamilton called "One Last Ride", where it addresses the Whiskey Rebellion in full.

This play got me learning more about this country that all my years in school, college included...and finding it actually interesting! I’m watching someone explain the economics of the founding of this nation...on purpose! Well done sir.
(We really need to rethink how these subjects are taught in school.)

About the part on slaves, I understood that Hamilton was not in favor of slavery. Actually he even wrote essays against it with his friend John Laurens during the Revolution.

@@sparkybish yep. All the founding fathers are very complicated. Probably one of worst and most hypocritical is Jefferson who owned thousands of slaves, freeing only 7 in his lifetime and describing it as a 'hideous blot' when he was a younger man. A symptom of normalization and power I would say.

Yes, they are all mixed up with reservations on slavery on some level or another. Hamilton was an abolitionist. Washington wrote extensively about how slavery was immoral and made sure his slaves would be freed upon his death and the death of his wife, but didn’t free them while he was alive because they were necessary for his economic independence and wealth. Jefferson famously owned many slaves and even had several children with slaves, but he also wrote about the heinous slavery trade and helped to abolish it in Virginia. It was a time where they recognized their hypocrisy but were unwilling to abolish slavery due to their own selfish financial reasons.

I would recommend the book Never Caught by Erica Armstrong Dunbar for more information on how Washington treated his slaves.

I walked into that musical knowing only about George Washington and the Boston Tea Party (in my defense I’m not from the US) and now here I am watching an economist explain how accurate the Cabinet Battle is according to Hamilton’s financial plan… idk why but im always more and more surprised with how flawless Lin’s writing is and I just loooove watching ppl break the songs down. I had understood the concept of it, but not with this much detail. Thanks for the video!! ❤️

In 1789, slavery was something that was normal for most Americans. But as the mentality at the time was quite different from today. Lin thought (rightly) that today's viewer will have a hard time sympathizing with a protaginist that is ok with slavery. That is why Jefferson, as an antagonistic figure against Hamilton, is portrayed as a supporter of slavery. It is easier for the viewer to understand who is "right" and who is not without the need to understand difficult economic jargon.

It makes sense for him to do it like that, but he's also painting a picture of historical figures that is inaccurate and he's lying to ppl. He's essentially changing history Wich is what I don't personally like

You know what else didnt happen? A multi-cultural community rapping about the birth of our country. Dance belts. The countless references to our current political climate.
Why did you feel the need to point out inaccuracies? Do you actually believe we think every single thing in Hamilton in historically accurate? I must have missed the announcement that it was all fact. That insert must have fallen out of my soundtrack.
Here, To help you out in the future:
1776 was written based on conjecture and “educated guesses” as Congress was held in secrecy.
Eva Peron never met Che Guevara
The French didnt speak with British dialects during the French Revolution.
Musicals are fantasies. Even the darker ones and the ones making political statements. Often ideas and themes are condensed to fill the time constraints of a 2-3 hour musical. The ideas wanting to be heard have to be shaped to fit a smaller scale than decades of time. Duh.
All you’re doing is debasing the work of an artist who created something special and insulted the millions of fans of said work by pretty much calling us idiots for not knowing every little historical inaccuracy. Smh. Yay for you.
