That was really awesome. I didn't notice I've been wearing a big smile while listening to the music and harmonies. You guys really captured the magic. 🙂
Summer, 1976. Southern California. I have just graduated from high school, and am 6 months into my first serious relationship..She is blond, 5-2, stunning...and I am in love. We take my just finished hot rod 56 Ford F-100 to El Dorado Park, and I wax it and shine on it while she sets up a picnic. The grass is green, the truck is metallic starfire blue. I am leaving town in 3 weeks for college. The truck only has an AM radio in it at first, and KRLA is playing this song in heavy rotation. You took me right back there with this, I kid you not...laugh all ya want, but I was there for a few minutes. I know where the 56 is. That little blond? She is right across from me, playing with one of our grandchildren. We will celebrate our 43rd anniversary this coming spring.
Oh memories of the 70s. Being a youngster listen to this while helping out dad on a job site. Now I’m 55, and dad is now 92, still with us but a shell of what he was as a working machine. Time marches on! Great tune well done , ty
I love it ❤ brings back beautiful memories. I spoke with the band members about this and about John Denver's involvement with the band! Great cover and Harmonies! 😅
Somewhere along the line someone or some poll decided to crap on this song…it was overplayed in 76 but I always loved it. Great harmony and great memories of being 9 years old. I don’t give a crap… I’ll admit to anyone I love this song. Great job here.
Wow! Have not heard this song in a long time - you guys are incredible! Sometimes I wonder if you guys know just how good you are! Seriously, there are not many groups out there these days that come close to you guys! Thanks so much for sharing your gifts!
I listen to Sunny Radio on iHeart and they play this song from time to time. I never gave this song too much thought in the 70’s because I was 5 or so, but have come to appreciate all that it is now! Wow in typical HSCC fashion it’s as good if not better than the original. Now that I am in my 40’s, does a nap qualify as an afternoon delight?
Bloody amazing job!! And for those who like the song but don't know too much about music, the perfection of the singers' discordant harmonies at the end is nothing short of jaw dropping. You literally have to be perfect on your note, no margin for error, or those harmonies will stick out badly. I'm in awe. I'm not worthy!!
I saw this band when they opened for John Denver in the mid 70s it was a great concert especially of course John and a highlight was when John said after a break in the show that they had been informed by Col Parker that Elvis was coming to town ! The arena erupted of course and we got to see Elvis later that year I think, thanks for another great song
No matter whichever song The HSCC absolutely smash, some non-fan just has to give a 👎. Never will understand it, coz they are without question the best cover band around. Great harmonies Pina, Kat, Danny & Jordan and lovin the arrangement as always Con. The opening 4 bars….. beautiful 🎼
Amazing vocals once again! Have to give a Shout out to the band…the band is always top tier. From guitar and bass to percussion, brass and every other instrument played…ya’ll are Amazing!! Love your sound!
Thanks HSCC for taking us back to the days when things were so simple. When a spade was a called a spade. When you could go down to the local milk bar and get a pie with sauce. When you'd go home and work on your SLR 5000 Torana with ya scruffy flannelette shirt. The days when nobody's instagram opinion affected anybody's lives. You've brought it all back just like the mullet haircut - a country two bob business selling apples, antiques n' potatoes at the front and a party of grog and good times out the back!
The camaraderie amongst you is palpable from the lead vocals to the instruments, you are simply a joy to watch. The fact that you all have probably one of the best voices I've heard of all cover bands here on this channel is gravy! I am so lucky to be listening to you.
I'll never forget... In the late '70's I was a kid (born in 1970), and my family had gone to a local Italian restaurant named Pasquales, which was like a pre-Pizza Hut, Pizza Hut. This song came on, and having heard it before, my younger brother and I enthusiastically joined in on the choruses because we liked the thought of firing off fireworks in the afternoon. 💥 My modest mom and dad kept trying to get us on other subjects, but we were having as much fun as the Starland Vocal Band...only for different reasons. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 It actually wasn't very long ago when, as I began a nostalgic tour of old songs I liked as a young person, I began looking up the lyrics to the songs to see what they were actually saying. I got a very good laugh out of this one realizing why mom and dad didn't want us boys singing it in a crowded restaurant. This is a very, very spot-on cover HSCC! Great job.
Superb version. I can tell you the reason you're such a great cover band is because every one of you excels in your individual role, it's like picking the lead singer / musician from the original band and creating a super group because that's what you are. The ultimate band, in many ways better than the original because you are so incredibly diverse and not stuck in a particular genre. I would happily spend my money to see you in concert because you revive such classic hits superbly. An incredibly strong line up. In an earlier decade you would have been another ABBA. My admiration for such beautiful musical talent, enjoy your success and above all, make it fun ❤️👍 Vik P.S. Hope you tour the UK soon, 'cos I'll be first in line to buy my ticket !
Wow - didnt see this one coming ! So many moving parts to this song - what a wonderful arrangement. Harmonies are so tight and perfect - well done guys :-)
Every time I recall my younger days, this song hits me with the good old days , the 80s I don't know about other Papua New Guineans but for me, when the sun is going down, this song is the best.
What is great about HSCC is that they are all so talented. They are happy to be performing. They have a rapport with one another and it's infectious with the audience. This is "lightening in a bottle". That is what this is. And, it's a pleasure to watch. All those components can be difficult to achieve. That's why this is a great band!
Not being a native English speaking child this song used to cheer me up, because I just love close harmony and it all comes together so nicely. So... now I know it's about what the rabbits do. As often as possible. And the song got even better :D
Small piece of trivia. This was used as the theme song for "Simon Townsend's Wonder World" afternoon children's TV program when the show first went to air until the producers pointed out to him the meaning of the lyrics. Then Simon had that scrapped he commissioned a new theme song. It was called "Welcome To My Wonder World". It was used from then on until the shows demise.
The lyrics only mean what you want them to mean. I've always been incensed by those who poo-poo'd this song over lyrics that they swore must have a nasty interpretation. They'd be among the people whose life mission is to criticize. Regardless, the song is a piece of art and always deserved better.
You guys are so in sync with each other, and the sound that comes from it is amazing. It was a pleasure listening to your cover of Afternoon Delight...very well done.
I LOVE HSCC! One of my classic favorites from a summer long ago. But those sounds NEVER get old - and HSCC does such a great service keeping this wonderful music alive! Thanks HSCC!
Been watching all your videos for a few months now and this took me back to my childhood, absolute nailed the vocals, I mean TOTALLY!!! So good and well done to all four of you and thanks to the rest of the band for staying as true as possible to the original arrangement AND musical intricacies! Love from Spain!
Wow, the powerhouse vocalists... Danny, Jordan, Kat and Pina sound really great together and it's cool to see them singing to highlight the song and compliment each others vocals. Love the lap guitar, wish I still had mine. Fantastic effort
Hello. I will try to write what I am preparing to listen to you. Note I do not know English well so forgive me for any mistakes. I have heard over 40 covers and I have been absorbed by both the voices and the orchestrations. The musicians manage to harmonize without any instrument standing out. You are all enjoyable. My warmest congratulations ... we will be happy to see you at a summer live in Greece. Have health and passion as it seems.
Another fine performance by my favoritest group . Everything you touch turns to gold . Great line-up for this song Con and like the addition of the steel guitar
This was my 88 year old Mom’s favorite song. When it came on the radio she turned it up and sang along. RIP Mom!!
God bless your mum.
It's the little memories that are so precious.
Welp, I just turned 80. I used to love this song when it came out in the 70's.
bless your freaky little mama 😅
Love you and your mom!

This song is a brilliant homage to the original by the Starland Vocal Band. And they’re from my home city 👍

Amazing harmony - took me back to childhood and listening to this on AM radio! Very well done.
Wow. Beautiful harmonies. Another belter. Much love as always from Sheffield England xxx
I listened to it four times and it doesn't tire me. Dany and Kat in my left ear, Pina and Jordan in my right. Who mixed those voices? A genius
I saw this band when they opened for John Denver in the mid 70s it was a great concert especially of course John and a highlight was when John said after a break in the show that they had been informed by Col Parker that Elvis was coming to town ! Chris, don't hate on the thumbs down folks. They've fallen through the cracks of the mental healthcare system.
When it comes to really good music you usually find the thumbs down brigade cant even shake a tambourine in good time.
@@johnwarner3809 Excellent point 😂

Wow! That was so beautifully done. Simply stunning. Absolutely gives me goosebumps.
Wow, I totally forgot that beautiful song even existed. Thank you HSCC for bringing it back to me with such an authentic style 😁
C'est magnific. The harmony of the voices was precise and impeccable, the best thing is that everything was heard in stereo
The harmonies on this song were simply amazing!!! 🥰❤👍
This sounded great! I still can't stop thinking of Anchorman tho..

Perpetually feeling like HSCC keeps putting out a killer cover of every song I jammed to a week ago
Thank you HSCC - one of my favorite Numbers in the 70's - Starland Vocal Band ! Perfekt played by you !
This is now my go-to song in the evening...just FLAWLESS in every way!
O my gosh,,its like the original way back 1976.❤️❤️❤️
This song will always remind me of 1976 in Naples, Florida.
I was living in Clearwater!
I'll never forget...
