I just rode my dual sport motorcycle through the area the other day. Rode from Kill devil hills to cape hatteras lighthouse and back. Awesome area to ride.
I had a look at this place on Google maps. There are house/lot numbers out in the ocean! There must have been another couple of rows of houses that aren't there any more.
Someone noted in the comments below that a number of the houses seen in this video have washed away since this video was made. Search you tube for a video that was made a week ago or so...mid to late September 2024. I stayed in Nags Head at the Comfort Inn in 2008. It had enormous sandbags in places around the perimeter to keep the surf at bay. Since I was there it's had at least one beach replenishment but that is a costly endeavor.
I love this place, I dream of retiring in Frisco or Avon. I've spent many weeks of the year all through my youth in Rodanthe, an uncle had a house on Sea Oats Drive. Sadly, his house was lost 20 years ago and would easily be 100 yards past those houses being lapped by waves now.
Rodanthe is a tiny town built on a moving sandbar. The sandbar is only 1 block wide at spots and is approx 25 miles off the mainland of NC. Was NEVER intended to be built upon.
Agree... I finally took a trip all the way up the OBX during lockdowns. Idk they let hwy 12 go that section north of the town and built a bridge. Guess I was one of the last to travel that section.
@@nobodynothing9950 State of NC could no longer maintain 12 in that section you speak of so built bridge supports and pilings and ran 12 out around into the bay then reconnected to 12 further north.
I would say that depends on each individual’s preference. I usually like to go once things slow down, late September/early October. The crowds are gone but restaurants and places are still open.
Sadly, erosion has been a problem for a number of years now. In some of footage, you can see where the road that was once there ends. Many houses have been taken down already. The bridge you can see in this video is the “bypass” for the road that once existed :(
I do not, I am sorry. I was just visiting and when I do, I usually stay at a nearby campground on the beach. There is a Facebook group, OBX, Outer Banks NC, that is pretty active. You may get some answers there...I hope you like your visit! :)@@DeborahBolek

RIP old S Turns at rodanthe gonna miss driving those sand covered roads by the dunes.
I know…so sad to see what’s happening.

Thank you. Personally, I can’t get enough of OBX myself.
Me too 😊

There’s no place like it 😊

Mother Nature doing what it does…

I LOVE OBX. It’s sad to see it all disappear little at a time :(
Hey, this is absolutely beautiful. Great to relax to. From your old pal in Louisa,va.
OBX is a treasure, for sure. There will be more coming from this trip. Stay tuned :)

So? Let people who can, enjoy it while they can. Your statement sounds petty and jealous.

Beautiful nature
Glad you enjoyed the video. I love the OBX.
Beautiful , thank you
Thank YOU! I am glad that you enjoyed this video :)
Lost a blue house near the pier a few days ago. I read that this beach is losing more than any beach on the east coast. It’s losing 15 feet a year!
Sadly, yes, it is :(
Mother Nature taking its course.
When us the beat time to vacation in Rodanthe ?
I would say that depends on each individual’s preference. I usually like to go once things slow down, late September/early October. The crowds are gone but restaurants and places are still open.
Beautiful houses, but it seems to have been some serious erosion?
Sadly, erosion has been a problem for a number of years now. In some of footage, you can see where the road that was once there ends. Many houses have been taken down already. The bridge you can see in this video is the “bypass” for the road that once existed :(
Do you have any suggestions for a place to stay for a week with my dog around March

While not something to see in my lifetime, eventually, the Outer Banks will be no more.
Sadly, I think that you are right. Mother Nature taking it away :(
Ironic that those beach houses shown in the video have now ( 11 months) collapsed into the ocean.
Mother Nature doing “its thing” …
@@martin73photo you missspeled climate change and raising sea level
Laughing my ass off at the houses now washing out into the ocean 😂😂. It used to be a wonderful place until all those idiots built summer homes there.
Unfortunately, Mother Nature is taking its course…
