This game made me fall in love with football aged 7, seeing the Liverpool end erupt when McMahon makes 2-2, still one of the greatest matches I've ever seen
I was lucky enough to be there. I still think it was the greatest Palace game I ever saw, better than the final and miles better than the final replay. My abiding memory..our fans were to the left of the Liverpool fans. After the whistle we were celebrating as you would expect. And the Liverpool fans? Most of them were facing us and applauding us. They had lots of great games, we didn't. So they knew this was a big deal for us and they knew it was our day in the sun.
Agree 100%-and I'm a Leeds fan!(Though my brother supports Chelsea).Have followed Leeds since 1964.One of the missing ingredients in today's football is loyalty;it's just a collection of mercenaries.Love this clip.My late father was a Palace fan.
still remember watching this game as a teenager expecting Liverpool to crush Palace. I wanted Palace to win and couldnt believe what happened after half time, especially since the 9-0 league game! Very exciting to watch it live! Well done Palace. Wish the final had gone the other way. :-( They deserved it.
Great game. I was a Liverpool fan at the time and this broke my heart, i was 15. I disagree with some of the comments here about passion and what it means to players. I still think competition means a HELL of a lot to a player. What's changed is whats more important now and that is - a) Champions League and b) survival from relegation. Passion hasn't changed - but the focus has.
Malcolm Allison - at half time, with Palace 1-0 down and being outplayed, they interview him and he said 'palace are stronger, if they can get a few more bodies up from midfield supporting Bright they could win it', cut back to the studio to V*nables and Ray Wilkins pissing themselves at the thought of a Palace win. God bless ya Big Mal.
A fantastic game with all the goals. Don't forget Palace had lost 0-9,yes NINE, earlier that season at Anfield, so most were expecting another mauling in giants v underdogs. Many Palace fans recall the day as their best ever. On return to London, even my then wife was excited - which says it all.
@THthefirst Spot on. You don't see crowds react like that any more (and not just because they're sitting down now). Clubs weren't just franchises like they are now, so you identified much more with your team. That said, how Bruce Grobbelaar earned a living as a goalkeeper for so long is still a mystery to me.
Switched on the Tv to find Rush had given LFC the lead. I thought 'here we go again, another expected Liverpool victory'. But Palace did not roll over and die despite the opposition and the 9-0 earlier in the season. Was privileged to have it live on the box in the days before Sky, when semi's were at Villa Park/Old Trafford etc - not Wembley, and the FA cup meant something. However, whenever I see this footage,I have to laugh when the police gets barged during Palaces' 2nd goal celebration!
Not on this clip, but towards the end of the match John Motson wondered aloud whether the following match between Man Utd and Oldham would be as good. It was. A great day for the FA Cup at a time when it meant something.
Just look at both set's of player's when they scored, see how much it means to them all, PASSION ! Look at football in the Premier League now, how does it compare ! Sad eh ?
Rush went off at half time and he looked really sharp and Palace capitalised but who were unlucky in the final (not the replay which was terrible) , said that it was a great day of football as Utd drew 3-3 with Oldham straight after. We still can't defend set pieces 20 years later, this game was a watershed for the last 20 years of hit, miss and mediocrity, time for Rafa to go.
What a game! Summers were endless back then and those who were there remember. The other semi was also a classic........ Man United 3 Oldham Athletic 3 Any footage?
Best semi ever. Watched this aged 11 with my dad. Amazing. Gutted the final went utd's way!! Ian wright made his mark though. AVFC.

My father cut my hair while I watched this memorable FA Cup semi final. I was nine at the time.
The year it all changed. Liverpool imploded and Man Utd sneaked a win in the final. Things were never the same again.
I remember watching this at my Granddad's house when I was a kid. My mum made us turn the TV off so we could eat lunch. I'll never forgive her...
Best FA cup semi of all time.
As a Liverpool FC fan, this match pissed me off.

The Mighty Eagles showed a lot of bottle that day. What a result! What a day!
@georgethehands Spot on mate, would love to have terraces back in some way. They can do it in Germany and the atmosphere is fantastic!

Never seen Alan Pardew smile!

1:19 !!!!!! Kennys FACE !!! classic :)
Wild mosh pit fans going bananas. Look at what we've lost.
2:45 @ the guy celebrating while being taking out on a stretcher lol
Why are Liverpool fans best and loudest in England it's unbelievable
They are used to shouting over the noise of alarm systems when they are robbing a place .
After a 9-0 mauling, who could have seen this coming?
5:03 WTF wre Liverpool doing ?!?!?! NOBODY MOVED !!!!
Liverpool win all shiny stuff this year
