I wish I would have kept mine.... We called them knicker knockers in the 70's.... I got really good on them. I could keep them going for a long time...which was hard... I loved this toy.
I’m a CLACKERMANIAC! My Mom took them away from me & I miss them so much! I had hours of fun clacking them around! 😂 She was not worried about me hurting myself, I think the sound drove her mental! 😂 They came in different colours too! I’m from Toronto Canada 🇨🇦 & I would love to have them again! You need practice 😆 thanks for sharing! 1:42
In late 2022, the toy was revived throughout Indonesia and quickly gained fame among the public. They are known as "katto-katto" or "latto-latto". Latto is a Buginese word which means clacking sound, while Katto is its Makassarese counterpart with similar meaning. There is no recorded data showing whether the names are a direct translation of the toy's name in US.
I loved these as a kid! And they were also based on a weapon. I didn't have any instructions that said to put cloth on your arms, though. I think they were called Kerbangers, the ones I had. I had many bruises, but I was really good at them!
I was actually quite good at it and rarely hit my wrists. I loved the clackers. My school banned them because too many kids showed up with bruised wrists and knuckles, unable to write or even hold a pencil LOL. Early models were also dangerous because the material they were made out of could shatter and send shards flying, causing injury.
I live in the Philippines and the clackers are back and are driving me crazy. The kids will play with them right in front of my house. I am 60 years old and I don’t have kids. So I would prefer not hearing them. 😂
God bless you, sir. It's really a noisy game, and not only you, everyone is irritated by this game. I'm from Pakistan, and clackers are in trending these days here.
Translucent ones revealed some potential weaknesses and the few with faults and inclusions, purple and clear, well they seemed to be the most reliable to explode. Lacrosse gloves, an ice hockey neck guard, and a motocross helmet were parentally mandatory.
LOL we had none of those things. Back then you didn't bubble wrap kids. We played with metal toys that had sharp edges and yes, exploding clacker balls too! I only had one set of mine shatter on me, it wasn't clear ones. It was one of the first generation orange colored ones. No idea what they were made out of but it send pieces flying everywhere. Thankfully I was wearing glasses because one piece came awfully close to hitting me in the eye. The next generation of clackers were much better, they were a bit smaller though. I don't know why they changed the size of them. I liked the bigger ones better. Now they have "safety clackers" that have rigid plastic instead of the string, takes all the fun out of it. No real skill required for those.
Oh Yea I remember them, They were my favorite toy and OW! is right as I Also remember the Bruises all up and down my arm my literally fell apart form playing with them so much
The originals came out when I was a kid. The name of the toy quickly morphed into slang for testicles. “ Oh, man! He got hit right in the clackers!”😂😂😂.
I used to see these everywhere when I was like 4 and they just disappeared out of no where so I went on a search to find them again today and here I am 💀
I love those when I was a kid back in the 70s you got a move your hand up and down not around in a circle except when I used to use them as a bolo and that’s when they got taken away. Lol.😊
It's sort of similar to Newton's Cradle, which demonstrates the physical principle of the conservation of energy. Adults used to have those. It was the sort of toy people put on their desks. I saw one at a toy store just a few weeks ago, after many years of not seeing them. Fascinating to watch but makes clicking noises rather than clacking ones and is much less likely to explode and send shards flying into your face.
Remember them too well from 1970, when I was 10 years old. Every child in the Playground seemed to have one except me. I think the ranged in price from 15 pence ( British Currency ) to about 35 pence but, I never had more than 2 pence per week, just enough for an ice cream cone. I did however get to play with some occasionally and, I really enjoyed it. It wasn't long before they were banned from sales and from Playgrounds.
They were also made of glass a would occasionally break a big hunk off one. They also were frequently banned, as they doubled as a blackjack in fights.
I just bought a 4 pack from Amazon. The string is way different. I was a boss with these in the 70-80s. But these new ones, the strings tangle too easily… just like in the video.
Probably should be wearing some heavy leather gauntlets, eye protection (as they've been known to shatter, sending shrapnel everywhere), a boxer's mouthpiece at the very least and a bicycle helmet or hardhat. THEN you'd be relatively safe when using it.
Thats one ball with a string. Farmers should use that its the same ball that was talking about yesterday. How many types of balls and cakes did i find?
I had clackers...so did my siblings...friends... They were the RAGE!!! LoL... They were banned because some of the clackers exploded...kids lost their eyesight... ☹😳☹

aztec gods are fun, but actually dangerous for bumping head to pain.
These were seen as too dangerous in the US so they barred them. And yes I do see the irony.
Wow long time ago I used to love playing this clacker! I was good at it when i was a kid at summer camp!
I recall Clacker-mania when I was in the fourth grade. It came and went like a tide....just as many trends do.

You can't ban balls and string, silly.
you can when they explode
You can when it can kills fitness aztec gods
My school banned them because kids hit themselves to the point they couldn't write. They didn't ban balls and string, they banned a specific toy.
I remember these were so popular in the 2000s i seen them mostly at the swap meet
You could always tell who had them from your arms being all bruised up.

Those are the much Lighter second generation models the Originals were about a pound of Resin each and caused a massive contusion if you messed up
Yes, the original ones were bigger too! I liked them much better than the smaller ones. But the first ones tended to shatter.
I love when Jason Statham narrates about playing with his balls.
