Senses Working Overtime is the bollox as well.
Lydia, you've done it again. Pretty sure you might be my spirit animal :) Literally one of my all time favorite tracks, but may be one of those had to be there moments. something about 'Black Sea' that only Cold war kids can understand lol. could a full LP reaction be in the offing?🔥
😊
*Rory.* Thanks 🙂 Yup. Cynical, but fun and clever. Musically and thematically.
Awesome music , fantastic 👍 thank you Rory 🤗 Good Evening !!
I think you nailed it, a very upbeat poppy sounding song, but underneath the pop surface it's a dark subject matter.
Once you get to know them, you'll notice the differences between the two singers:
Andy Partridge (singer/rhythm guitarist) was the main singer and songwriter, usually more eccentric in his lyrics and songwriting - he wrote and sang Dear God.
Colin Moulding (singer/bassist) wrote and sang a few of their biggest hits, including this one and Nigel, but he tended to be more conventional.
The video to this song is great. It has Richard Branson and John Le Mesurier in it....
I didn't know John Le Mesurier was in it.
Worth a deep dive. XTC. Deeper and cleverer than many of their contemporaries.
I DON'T THINK I EVER HEARD THIS SONG XTC I'VE HEARD OF THAT NAME BEFORE. SERIOUS LYRICS BUT SOUNDS SO UPLIFTING, INTERESTING! INTERESTING REACTION RORY 💙 AND THANK YOU LYDIA FOR THIS REQUEST!! 😊🩷🤘✌️
😊
This is very similar to Talking Heads - War In a Life Time. It's another war themed song with a super happy and dancey tune behind it. ua-cam.com/video/jLwZvg46jms/v-deo.html

Senses Working Overtime is a great one too! very cynical as well with a fun energy, i think is about being a peasant in the dark ages or something like that
Drums and bass on point.👌
RORY....You must check out an 80s Canadian band called SAGA song called Turn Me loose....not like above group but you will surprised and want more.
Turn Me Loose is Loverboy...
Saga sang Tonight We're On The Loose
Great band and Black Sea (this album) is a great entry point!!!
Personally I prefer their first few albums, even the first two which no one seems to like very much xd
I love em all, it's just that on a tier list of XTC albums, they rank down in 'great' territory, as opposed to 'perfect' for Skylarking, Black Sea, Drums and Wires and Oranges and Lemons 😃
