Après avoir vendu plus de 500 000 exemplaires de son album en hommage à Luis Mariano puis de « Sicilien », Roberto Alagna revient avec un nouvel album aux couleurs chaudes de l'Amérique latine, « PASIÓN » !
On y retrouve de grands classiques tels que « Besame mucho », « Quizás, Quizás, Quizás» ou « Cielito Lindo » ; Une sublime reprise de « Piensa en mi », immortalisée par Luz Casal dans la bande originale de « Talons Aiguilles » ; Mais aussi un très beau duo sur « Historia de un amor », (monument de la musique sud-américaine) avec la chanteuse mexicaine Lila Downs, connue pour son interprétation de la bande originale de « Frida » en 2002.
Roberto nous propose une extraordinaire promenade dans le boléro cubain, la ranchera mexicaine et le tango argentin et pas question de dénaturer ces chansons auxquelles il est très attaché car « ces chansons ont toujours fait partie de ma vie ». En préservant l'authenticité de ces morceaux, notamment grâce à des arrangements qualifiés d'« ethniques » par Yvan Cassar (à la direction musicale), mais sans hésiter à secouer des standards comme « La Cumparsita », Roberto Alagna explore un nouveau répertoire avec lequel il a une proximité instinctive. « Après tout, les Alagna sont arrivés de Sicile en venant d'Espagne vers 1870. Roberto's idol was Mario Lanza. He was inspired by Lanza in "The Great Caruso." The movie had an enormous impact on Alagna. In the end, he did not want to be Caruso. He wanted to be Lanza. Mario Lanza was amazing. He had the incomparable ability to crossover from opera to popular music which he did so flawlessly, beautifully and with emotion and passion.
