One of the questions asked is which soul controls the Krulian My answer is that the souls, when fused instead of acting like multiple individuals forced to work together are instead fused to where the souls combine into one common soul that takes attributes from all souls f.e. one of the souls that made up the ferryman liked Thundercall the most/Thundercall was the most preferred use of the song out of all the souls, so the fused soul preferred Thundercall, the fused soul itself likely cannot be split apart because when fused like this, all the attributes of the souls that weren't absorbed into the new fused soul were deleted if you think about it, it seems to be close to human creation, the child is a combination of the 2 parents + nurture the fused soul is the combination of many souls + experiences as a fused soul, now being a new person
I might have a solution for the "stronger in depths" thing. Maybe, in some incredibly deep layer, like Layer 12 or something, that is where the Song resides. It would make sense, as the further down into the depths you go, everything looks like it's stronger, aka more connected to the Song. Also, when a Songseeker npc is gripped, they say "I return to the Song", as in they are returning to the depths. So that way, all Song based and attuned beings gain strength in the depths, like Krulians do. Just a thought.
I think it's instead the ecological standards. Layer 1 creatures (except jellyfish) can all be found on the surface, and are there because of this world slowly sinking. However, Layer 2 creatures are stronger because they have had more times to settle into their ecosystem and have evolved better niches over time, because they were there longer.

I just think, since the whole Depths system is partially inspired by the anime Made In Abyss, where the main goal of that show is the reach the bottom of the Abyss, the Song itself might be in the Depths. I think it's just the song really just gets stronger the deeper you go. You get the connection to the depths, as in like getting more ether from the surroundings after you get out. Which is what Op is saying. The people in Firfire Village were divers that got transformed through the song in them being overwhelmed by the song in the surroundings. In short, thresher weak in overworld because it originated from the overworld, thresher stronk in depths because it got corrupted from sanity, and thresher gone in layer 2 because the thresher had basically no song in it and got decimated into snow (ethiron flakes)

Maybe we can say the same about the Gran Sudaruska as both weapons intail how the weapons are made up of souls. The crypt blade being said to be many ignition souls and the Ice Axe was one person at once, as the description says and how it talks to you.
