This video shows the Awaodori Promotion Association and Tokushima Awaodori Association dancing at the Awaodori Hall Festival on July 16, 2023. It was a high level of perfection, showing that the dancers had practiced a lot for this day. I can't tell you how many times I held back tears when I saw them dancing so cheerfully and with smiles on their faces.
Awaodori (Awa Dance) is one of the most famous traditional performing arts in Japan, with its history of more than 430 years. "Awa" is the old feudal administration name for Tokushima Prefecture, and "odori" means "dance". Awaodori Festival in Tokushima City is held from August 12 to 15, attracting over 1.3 million tourists every year.
