70 years later here in 2023 we are watching a master piece of the comedy world from 1953 - by 2 all time greats - BUD ABBOTT and LOU COSTELLO And this comedy routine will never ever die !
The timing on this routine is so scary precise. It was absolutely errorless, and it's done so quickly. Classic routine, great comedians. Try more of their stuff.
I've often wondered how long they had to rehearse this to hone the timing. It's part of their comedic genius, just as it was for Jack Benny and for Burns & Allen.
@@WobblyBiped So have I. I've seen other comedians, comic duos, and amateurs attempt to recreate this routine and they all fall flat, either because of their slow pace, poor acting, poor timing, or because of errors. These two guys started in 1935, but it seems Lou had done most of this before they met with others and had it pretty well down. But the timing between these two took years of rehearsal.
Abbot , many people feel he was the best. Straight man period. .Orher routines: Niagra Fall, and Susquehanna Hat Co. The characters on their show Botchagaloop, Stinky, Mr Fields. Lou Castello and Bud Abbot. 🌟🌟
Classic Comedy. They were masters. This was done before a Seniors group after they retired. Can you imagine keeping up with this routine to do it over and over.
The time they put into this skit and all their others to perfect them. Timing, body language and the way their voices were changed throught makes this a masterpiece of old school comedy.
@Mike C They always improvised this sketch, so it was always different every time they performed it, they planned out the meat and bones of the sketch and each man worked out 2-3 responses to each response the other makes this method of improvising it allowed them to vary the performance both in terms of content and the length of the skit to suit the situation.
It's nice to see the youth of America discovering these gems of comedy. I guess I'm getting old. I always watched Abbot and Costello show in the late 50s early 60s. That probably makes me old. Such a pretty smile on a beautiful young lady. Refreshing to see a bright, intelligent, young person enjoying the comedy of the 40s, and 50s. Sweet!
That’s good you watched it throughout without pausing or talking while they were performing because you won’t miss anything and that’s when it’s really funny. Classic comedy!
John Fogerty is also in the baseball hall of fame. He never had anything to do with the game other than watching it and recording the song "Centerfield".
People are mistaken. *Fogerty as well as Abbott & Costello are not in the Hall of Fame.* They have a display in the museum- their Gold Records (the script also for A & C) but they are not actually members of the Hall of Fame, they just have permanent fixtures in the museum. All members of the Hall of Fame are former players, managers, executives, or umpires.
One of the most famous comedy skits ever. Abbott and Costello were comedic gold. I loved your reaction. It's great watching young folks seeing this for the first time. I never get tired of it.
Much respect to this young woman! The routine is one of my favorites and she took the time to present it to a younger audience, most of which would have never known it existed. ALL present day actors/comedians/musicians were influenced by the previous entertainers....and those entertainers were influenced by previous entertainers. Not the circle of life but the “rolling circle of life”.
I love them!! when I was growing up in the 80s, we used to watch them every Sunday afternoons. We didn’t have cable so we would watch basic tv and grew up on old black and white comedies. My favorites were I Love Lucy, Laurel & Hardy, and sometimes when we’re lucky enough to turn on a certain channel, the station would play Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton marathons!
I love wordplay, but what really makes this work for me are Lou Costello's reactions: the faces he makes, and the way he moves, clearly showing how frustrated he is. And somehow it just makes it that much funnier. I laugh every time. Glad you enjoyed it.
This was one of the first Televised versions of it. It started on Radio back in 1938. Bud Abbott and Lou Costello will remain one of the greatest comedy duos ever.
That was a FAMOUS Abbot and Costello skit that I grew up watching with my father..Great memories..And I just gotta say this..You are a CCCCCCUUUUUUTTTTTTIIIIIIEEEEEE!!!!! ☺
I hope you have thousands of young subscribers. This is a piece of American History, and I have made it a point to show it to my daughter. Yes, the skit was originally done in 1953 , yet it still funny in 2019. This one should be taught in school, it is comic genius.
So very nice to see a young person exposed to Abbott and Costello for the first time! This is a genius piece of comedy that never grows old. Excellent choice.
How do they keep this whole thing straight? OMG, they were so on top of it! This is CLASSIC!!! Costello on the left is coyly hilarious and Abbott is the perfect straight man. Props to you, India, for even knowing this exists.... and THEN checking it out. Deep respect.
I have been watching this routine for over 67 years, and I think that it is just as hilarious today as it was when I first saw it on TV in 1953 at age 13. Darlene PS, I love your comments and reactions.
They made dozens of movies in addition to their TV show. Because they worked for Universal several films had the famous monsters in them such as Frankenstein, Dracula, the Mummy and the Invisible Man. I love the Three Stooges and also the Marx Brothers who were zany.
Funny thing is, decades later, there finally was some Korean player that made it to the major leagues by the last name "Hu" and he hit a single. Vin Scully, legendary Dodgers announcer for decades, said "After decades of joking about it, folks, I can finally say it. Hu's on first!" I completely lost it. It was too perfect.
These 2 were hilarious, they were the best and, in my humble opinion, they still are the best. The 3 stooges were good but Abbot and Costello are still at the top of the list when it comes to a comedy team. This was way before my time but after hearing this skit for the first time I was a fan of theirs for life. They had so many skits like this and all were laugh inducing. Rest in peace Abbott and Costello. Thanks for making us laugh still... 65 years later.
@@OronOfMontreal it was no secret Lou Costello borrowed from Curly Howard of The Three Stooges. Lou took a lot of his mannerisms from Curly Howard and Incorporated them into Abbott and Costello. Both comedy teams were great. The Stooges were more slapstick and physical comedy.
The 3 Stooges (as they eventually became known as), were also from the training grounds as Abbot and Costello, the vaudeville and burlesque shows of the 1920’s. They both had different approaches to comedy, much like today. But to say the Stooges were JUST physical comics would be wrong, they had great verbal patter as well they’d pepper in between the smacks and eye pokes. Ex. Moe comes up with an inventive idea and barks “Spread out,... this is my brainchild” to which Curly replies “Why you’re not even married!..”. Hardly to the level of a “Who’s on First” routine, but not all pies in the face either. It may surprise you to know that one of the earliest Stooge shorts (as their films were know) was nominated for an Academy Award (something even Bud and Lou never attained). Both had their comedy strength and style, and even though the Stooges were a longer lasting act, they and Abbot and Costello were a few of the “founding fathers” of film comedy, along with others such as Chaplin, Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd.

They were a great comedy duo. Two golden age slap stick legends. Keep watching the golden age legends and you’ll see clean comedy, how comedy should be.
One of the most brilliant pieces of comedy writing ever; presented by masters of their craft. I performed this once, poorly, before knowing its origin. Interestingly, Abbott and Costello never performed it exactly the same way twice; real easy to get stuck in a loop, unless one of the guys knows when to cue the wrap up.

Much much before my time as well. But I used to watch them all the time on PBS I think it was, now I can watch on UA-cam. Gracie had perhaps the best timing in comedy. George never remarried after she passed.
