Building a Giant Beach Ball with a Central Tube

  • In this video I build a supersize version of an inflatable sprinkler ball or glow stick beach ball. Instead of a small beach ball with a tube down the center to hold a glow stick or a garden hose this ball is a massive 8 feet in diameter with a 27 inch diameter tube down the middle. It could hold on to much larger things.

While I love to describe the many projects I have built, if they inspire you to build something, you do so at your own risk. The glues and solvents I use can be toxic and vinyl is not breathable and can cause suffocation.

Utilizing the ball's original valve to make a ballast chamber like that is quite ingenious!
I bet it gives quite the squeeze as well~

I treat a seam repair in my toys like a surgical level operation and meanwhile for you is just another day in the office, not to mention the insane modification of the ball lol, kudos to you

I think that the glow stick ball may be used for another "stick"

"It could hold on to much larger things." - like inflate it with someone inside it. I would love to try that. May need some help to get out though!

I like previous vinyl fusig techniques, though I suppose glue is much faster

Your inflatables idea should encourage a great way to ♻ an inflatable. A lot less would be landfill material. Inflatables cost a lot.

Pretty cool mod - does the glue smell really bad? You wear a mask when using it

I have a respirator for anytime I use a large amount of HH-66 vinyl cement. Or, I work outdoors with a fan blowing across my work area.

I am trying to make my own inflatable chair, what thickness of vinyl would you reccomend? and for the seams do you think it would be better to melt them together or glue them? Thanks for your awsome videos! Any other advice you have would be appreciated as well

Pool toys are typically 0.3 millimeters thick and some heavier duty ones are 0.4. Either should work well. Glueing might be easier for the first time.
