many changes have happened to the google drive version since last year: • remade the bass myself with the JD-800 waveforms Syn Pulse2 and Wally Wave • treble added to crashing sound, trumpet, vox • included entire engine sample • removed trumpet samples not in the original • edited vox sample attack points to match originals • edited orchestra hit for accuracy and doubled sample rate so treble detail isn't lost check it out at the top of the description!
Never actually played Kirby 64, but the first time I heard this track immediately my head perked up and I was like, "What the hell is this?!!" Just one of the all-time greats. Awesome restoration.
the nostalgia make it even better its insane how videogames ost gives me goosebumps caused by nostalgia it hits me hard every time i live for this shit ❤😌😌😌
it’s come to my attention that I (and the whole internet) use the term “soundfont” wrong. it’s just a file format, not the actual name of a group of instruments. it’s like calling all scientific papers “pdfs”. but I feel like if I start using the words “sound library” in my titles then they won’t gain as much traction. what to do…
Yet "soundfont" is the perfect word to describe what a defined set of instrument samples is. Stick with it. Its meaning has changed over the course of the years and the original definition is long gone.
@@marinellovragovic1207 Exactly, I think 'soundfont' has evolved into a new meaning and is just fine the way it is. It's like how people call animated pictures on the internet "GIFs" even though nowadays they're more likely to be webms or whatnot. Being technically correct isn't more important than being clear, concise, and understandable to audiences.
You can try using "sound library" for a video or two. There's not much harm in trying. Maybe people understand what you mean, and don't find your videos through search engines. Experimentation is good, especially for someone who releases so many videos as you.
eh, i think that's a bit like saying "font is actually a filetype, really we should be saying glyphs" or something like that. my point is: genericization of these terms is like fine. a "Soundfont" can be both a specific file format *and* a given game's or song's used set of instrument samples, in terms of colloquial definitions. and when referring to the former, one could just as easily call it a .sf2 file or whatever. etc, i'm not a language nerd though so take that with a grain of salt. nice work on this restoration btw, this is one of my favorite songs from this game's OST
This is awesome!!! My only thing to add about the audio mixing though is that the record scratch sounding sample seems to have been turned down way more than it should. Its used as a part of the percussion and should still be audible and pronounced. Otherwise, amazing work!!!
@@whatsf2 Yeah the engine starting sound. I didn't know that's what it was. And huh, I remembered it being louder for some reason but listening to it again, I think you're right. Odd...

do you think youd ever be able to release this as a MIDI at some point? a lot of existing factory inspection midis are super off from the original and this is easily the best recreation ive ever seen of it
of course, cuz I rip midis directly from games whenever I can! I’ve been asked this question a lot but where/how would I release them? never done that before

I just want to say thank you for continuing to work on this. One of my favourite pieces of VGM and I'm glad to see a very high quality restoration
Just realized the part at 0:54 is from the intro of kirbys dreamland 3 holy hell
IT IS WOAH!!!!!!!! I wonder if Ishikawa knew that or it’s just some insane coincidence
that would be an insane coincidence 😭 he definitely knew what he was doing and it sounds amazing
@@whatsf2That's kinda the whole shtick with kirby, using patterns and leitmotifs of various songs everywhere.

please play it, the game is pretty short but incredibly sweet and the final boss is absolutely beautiful.
I would've never guessed that was a car crash sound until I went through the samples myself trying to make some garbage years ago
This is gold
it's so weird to get to listen to the bells and trumpets (especially the trumpets that k64 uses a lot) not being compressed 😭

through the VST Sforzando

Can you make oscilloscope version?
