Those MC's are wack. I'm a big Salah fan ever since I saw him judge a competition here in our place in 2011, but Baby Bang was definitely ahead of his time and was not understood by most dancers, even judges. You can see a lot of poppers now using his style and innovating it, even more, he was truly underrated during his time.
As to living it, it means being part of a culture, not just getting fucked up at parties and clubs. Embracing all elements of that culture and being a living part of that culture by adding to it, whether it's through dance, art, graffiti, political change on your block, poetry, or just showing respect to those around you, whether you agree with them or not.
all those discussion about what hip-hop is.... for me hip-hop is the respond to that society who is asking us to be formal and polite to each other. that we should in other words hide from each other as a sign of respect. to not be too personel, too familiar...hip-hop is the respond to that. in hip-hop respect is shown by simply "keeping it real", you can be smart without having that unatural intelectuel attitude. hip-hop is for me a way of beeing direct and honest without beeing an asshole. you dont need to be an mc, a dancer, raper or what ever. you can be hip-hop as a sportler, as an artiste, as a gardener, as what ever. there are even politician who are hip-hop, but there are not elected again. = )
somebody knows a good tutorial of that signature shaking move of babybangs legs? or maybe could give me the name of that shaking, or maybe explain me a bit the technik. i dont get it. the way i try it hurts my knees, so i think i do it wrong.
Baby had some really clean, creative and well timed moves. Crowd def didn't see those. At least the announcer noticed it 3:43. The only problem with baby in this battle was his attitude. He was trying too much to impress the crowd instead of dancing against Salah. You have to try to do both ftw
There really is no reason rich kids at dance class can't learn the moves and feel the music. I have seen it in New York, Philly, and Miami. But compared to a place like Cuba, where everyone lives and breathes music 24 hours a day because without it, life might be unbearable or compared to African American culture for all the same reasons, there is a difference in culture and true resonance with Hip Hop and it's message of political and social resistance mixed with spiritual release.
Nice to see a little boy get started. Somebody has to be beat to get to the real show in the later rounds. Swedes do like to think they are cool. And they are...in different ways; Then they run into folks that live and breath hip hop and find out It has to come from a culture that knows oppression, hurt, and struggle but still believe in a higher state of being. It's that freedom from the hate that surrounds you that gives bounce to the step, yo.
Not BAD SALAH DAG I HOPE WE RUN IN TO EACH OTHER ONE DAY YOU POP PRETTY GOOD WOULD LIKE TO SEE HOW YOU DO AGAINST ME. LEGEND YOU ARE THOUGH BRO OUT THE COUNTRY!
So, mostly talking out of my ass about such things because we all know there are no absolutes in life. Having said that, I was speaking more about coming from a culture of political and social inequality and oppression generally leads one to understand and associate with true Hip Hop. As for personal suffering, yes! Artists should suffer pain and they do. Otherwise, we would never see their work as a life without conflict is a boring life. Now, as for dance; You're right.
As to the last part, I failed when I threw back names at you. Sorry for that. If Hip Hop is one thing, it is maybe: No matter how shitty the world it, it will only get better when we treat each other better' . Which is where battling comes from anyway...Rather than assault and battery. Anyway, done preaching.
