In India as I have experienced before. Foreigner can be asked to pay as high as double or 3 times the price of what locals are paying.

China is like most countries. With urbanization and a declining birthrate, the average number of children per family is 1.2, which means that many rural residents are left with elderly people, and their children go to the city to study or work. They grow some vegetables and fruits on their own land and sell them in the nearby city market to supplement their family income. The government does not tax farmers, so the prices are much cheaper than in supermarkets. These people are simple and honest, and will not charge high prices to tourists or foreigners.
To all Indian viewers on this video. This maybe the most remote area in China. Yet compare to the most important cities of India capital New Delhi and financial city Mumbai this remote area of China look much cleaner. Especially in the market places like this.

Actually Chinese people especially the old generation can't stop working. Their kids will be sending money home but they can't stop working. China was poor & people dont have enough food to eat but in the past 30 years they work so hard now look where china is. Also they don't want the new generation to forget the hardship their parents & grandparents did to shape china today.

In my city, Hangzhou, u may find thousands of olders who sell the farm products beside the streets. However, many of them r far more rich than most of us. They may own 4-10 houses in this city, and each of them worth 200-600 k US dollars. They can live decent lives only wiht the rents from extra houses. However,they just choose to do some work and they r proud of contributing to the society. It is their faith to be a useful person for the society.

As a Chinese, let me explain it. The pension level of Chinese people ranks very low in the world and most farmers have no ordinary pension or only have a monthly pension of US$30. This is why Chinese people are generally hard-working and have to prepare financially for old age
unfortunately its a fact, I feel sad for these hardworking peasants, more so with small time farmers. Is healthcare subsidized in China for these unprivileged people.
Because most Chinese want to be Independent instead of depending on the handout. Or begging like what you can see in India even in big cities like New Delhi and Mumbai.

We Chinese want to be productive instead of just idle doing nothing. Beside we believe in carry on working to keep us healthy and our mind alert. Also they can socialize with others at the market place everyday.
Many don't really need the money for what they are selling. It is just extra money for them. They are actually very happy coming here to socialize.
Every elderly person has children, but not necessarily by their side. They also want to reduce the burden on their children in the last moments and create their own final value, and transfer all their wealth to their grandchildren.
Even if the government provides a pension, these elderly people are unwilling to spend it and will save it all for their grandchildren.
My grandmother is also like this. My dad gives her living expenses every month and she doesn't spend them. She also has a monthly pension of 5800 yuan issued by the government, but she spends very little. In the end, when she was seriously ill, she saved all the money on a bank card and gave it to me. I told her that I didn't lack money, but she insisted on me accepting it. Before she died in the hospital, she asked me if my bank card was still there. I showed it to her and she smiled.
