The solo at the end of Just was peak Jonny imo. He really shines on The Bends more than any other Radiohead album. Obviously Thom’s acoustic work is phenomenal, but Jonny’s guitar really takes The Bends to another level.
Jonny's live guitar for Fake Plastic is fuckin next level. Yeah he rocks on the Bends as a whole.
Did you guys have ever seen Johnny playing Planet Telex live? It's insane! His performance and the freaking noises that he does xD
I think Paranoid Android is Jonny's peak, but Just is a good one too
You guys ever hear the In Basement version of Bangers + Mash? It's completely different than the original, and he just nails together a bunch of bends
only matched in okc
2:01 "it's like the guitar is screaming almost"
no that was thom
Kidding?
@@letdown9197 nope.
*LITERALLY*
Not as good as the end of climbing up the walls!
"Their endings are just so freaking good every time"
Videotape reaction flashbacks...
omg haha
mephistopheleeeeeees is juuuust beneeeaaathh (8)
@@nicolaslabra2225 and he is reaching of to graaab me
He doesn't like the studio version but said he enjoys the live one.
@@jager9022 In the In Rainbows album reaction he said someone sent him a live version of Videotape which he enjoyed, but I pretty sure he didn't say which one. On the In Rainbows From the Basement reaction he said he liked that one too. I like the Saitanma concert version ua-cam.com/video/q9RnH6iXQvw/v-deo.html
Oh I’m really excited to see your reaction to Street Spirit it’s my favourite song on the album
Probably my favourite song of all time
Sane
Same* definitely not sane, it's insane
High and Dry and Black Star are definitely the ones u have to listen at least twice they are growers bro 😌😌
Funny enough, I think the band hates "High and Dry" the most of any song they've ever recorded
@@eddiedingle767 maybe because it sounds like they fanboying over Oasis (like most of 90's bands)
@@thomaszloi9444 who wouldn't want to be Oasis in the 90s, obviously pre-post Be Here Now.
They were like the Beatles, if only in the UK
@@eddiedingle767 someone who hates their fame and want to have individuality. I'm not bashing anyone it's just radiohead gonna hate their mainstream sound tracks like creep and high and dry
Some people already suggested Grace by Jeff Buckley, I think it's a must for an alt rock fan. Radiohead, Muse, Nothing but Thieves themselves named him as one of their biggest influences both musically and vocally. IT REALLY IS worth listening to.
Yup❤
Amnesiac gang here to remind u that u need to check out Radioheads most rewarding album.
Misbehaving Child x2
Amnesiac was my first and it's my favourite. I guess it was a trapdoor that I couldn't come back from.
I think Pulk/Pull is the greatest song ever recorded.
It was amazing to find out from the OKNOTOK white cassette that it's got loops made for True Love Waits in it.
@@guyperson3278 interesting, I think it's the worst song they've ever made lol
I can't wait to see what you think of Pyramid Song
Pyramid Song is transcendent. Talk about matching vocals and melody to the other instruments. Good call.
2:42 ladies and gentlemen... Jonny Greenwood
Let Love In from Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds is brilliant.
Anything from Nick Cave is brilliant, the guy is a genius
yes yes yes yes yes. x1000.
I can't wait your reaction to the kin of limbs and amnesiac
AND PABLO HONEY!!!!!!!!
@@knightarnaud no thanks
@@joecurran2636 I'm a government man
@@joecurran2636 There's stuff worth listening to in Pablo Honey. Not a lot, but definitely some great highlights.
@@ExileOnDaytonStreet I mean yes it's an alright album but it's most definitely their weakest album and I would take the bends over it everyday of the week
Do the smashing pumpkins Melancholy and the infinite Sadness or siamese Dream next, both have a radiohead esque feel but much darker and more grunge based. I know you like more sophisticated stuff more so you'd prolly like melancholy more check it out it's great!!!
The bends is my favourite album from RH and yes i have listend and own almost all of their other albums .. The Bends is just aghhh ❤️❤️
I AGREE
I’m always surprised it doesn’t rank among their top albums. That halfway between the raw grunge and technical proficiency, packed with great songs… what’s not to love? As Nightwish himself says, that perfect combination between accessibility and musical intricacy.
@@samuelmcgovern Many critics love it, it constantly appears on "greatest albums of all time" lists.
Street spirit is so good live, Jonny plays third harmonizing guitar and keyboard with the neck of his guitar at the same time.
The Cure should be the next band starting with Disintegration!
Followed by Faith and Pornography :)
Yes especially since they were inducted into the Rocknroll Hall of Fame at the same time as Radiohead!
roger waters I’m pretty sure that this guys spoiled himself at this point. No band he could listen to can top Radiohead
Mace Windu Radiohead’s one of my favorite bands of all time but I actually prefer The Cure, Peter Gabriel era Genesis and Pink Floyd by a hair!
He’d probably like Wish too
I’ve discovered your channel when you’ve already made a few Radiohead reviews and since then I’ve been reliving the feeling of discovering those masterpieces they made and also giving another chance to some songs that I didn’t like the first time around and now I love them. I don’t know what it is about seeing someone listen to Radiohead for the first time but it’s sort of mesmerizing. Can’t wait for you to hear Amnesiac, it actually is in my top 3 Radiohead albums for sure (unpopular opinion maybe?). Xx
Just and Planet Telex are totally the OG Radiohead rockers
Street spirit started to play and I'm crying again. 💔😭
You should react to King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard (Flying Microtonal Banana is my personal favorite, but Nonagon Infinity is also a good introduction).
Love your videos btw!
Greglespecial marathon of the 2017s
Man, i really love this reaction. Its good that you ranked The Bends in the middle. Its a solid album and probably one of the best Sophomore album out there. Yeah it might be not as good as OK Computer, In Rainbow, or Kid A. But The Bends shows a very great advancement from Pablo Honey (Grunge-ish Rock album to an Alternative Album with a little bit of Art Rock in it).
It's better than Kid A.
@@fernicusmaximus9282 lol no
lol yes
Street Spirit my favorite Radiohead's song
middle of your rankings? how dare you sir :) this is classic Radiohead. its amazing. but then it was the 1st radiohead album i heard so has that connection for me.
You mentioned (during My Iron Lung) that you see how Muse were influenced by Radiohead (in Showbiz) and just, not-at-all surprisingly enough, I've learnt that John Leckie who produced The Bends also produced Showbiz (and Origin of Symmetry).
I like the story that Leckie took Radiohead on a concert when working on The Bends and I guess they were all very happy about their collaboration.
By the way, thank you for your reactions. I am slowly revisiting Radiohead in full and currently listening to The Bends. Kid A and Amnesiac are up next!
You're doing a great job, man! I wish you the best of luck and inspiration.
Highly recommend you to check b-sides from The Bends, they are amazing! Even without reaction, Killer Cars, How can you be sure?, Maquiladora, The Trickster, Talk Show Host, Banana co., Permanent Daylight, Lozenge of love are my all time favorites!!!
The Maquiladora riff makes me hard
He should react to their EPs and someone should do playlists with all their B sides divided in Eras (Pablo Honey Era, The Bends Era, etc.)
yes! Just, my favourite Radiohead song. i knew you'd love it.
I knew it from the start he would love it
Wow! Street Spirit (Fade Out) is incredible. Also I didn’t realise before this how much of a precursor Just was to Paranoid Android, felt like a warm up to OK Computer. So talented at such a young age.
Once you’ve done all of their albums, could you do a ranking video?
Also there are some great songs from over the years that Radiohead released but didn’t go onto their albums; Talk Show Host, I Promise and Man of War are some great ones to check out. And if you’re interested, check out their fantastic music videos, they’re always so creative.
And PLEASE do some more Gorillaz reactions.
There's also the in rainbow#2 bonus track that's actually really cool and some that didn't went to tkotl are great too
Your profile picture makes me really wish he reacts to Blur ( Mostly Self-titled and 13 of course )
i've nearly forgotten how beautiful "The Bends" was
And this is why I love watching reaction videos. Living vicariously through someone experiencing one of my favorite albums for the first time is powerful; especially when that someone knows their stuff. I loved this album when it came out and I have to totally agree with you about how 90's it is; though it was so much more than that when it came out, especially considering the music of it's time. I also can distinguish the formative themes and musicianship that was a prelude to OK Computer, that I just attributed as being Radiohead at the time. Finally, I also agree that Street Spirit is my favorite song off the album: so haunting and ethereal and beautiful and potent. You should really seek out their video of Street Spirit- so beautiful and haunting; not only one my favorite Radiohead videos; one of my favorite videos of all time.
If you continue reacting to albums, you gotta react to Tame Impala, please man, I know you will definitely love it!
A round of applause coming your way, Sir
Just watched part 1 and this is just as great already
Everyone has a similar emotion with the Just riff and the Paranoid Android riff lol
I commented this on your last video lol but you really should react to In the Aeroplane Over the Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel! Amazing album start to finish.
Love the content!!
Have i told u that i love u for all of this videos? In case if i haven't, DUDE, I LOVE U FOR ALL OF THESE VIDEOS, GOD DAMN
Love your reaction to street spirit! I knew you would love it. This was the song where I knew there was something very special about this band and I was sold, cause I really hadn't heard much of the bends along time ago and discovered this gem and now, I'm enjoying some songs of this album that before wasn't doing much for me.
I have a feeling you'll like King of Limbs. Codex and Separator have the same dreamy soothing nature as your favourites on this album. Separator's my favourite Radiohead song actually. And I agree with you on Blackstar, it's never clicked for me! Make sure you finish the Radiohead discography please, that's all I ask
I kept saying I thought you should just do the albums chronologically as I completely agree with you about having a reference point. It also lets you appreciate a bands growth or journey more. It seems most people do not agree however 😕
street spirit, bulletproof and fake plastic trees are such beautiful songs, i really love this album my personal favourite radiohead album.
When I heard Radiohead first there was only Pablo Honey. I still put this as my favourite album. But that being said, I was not prepared for what was to come. Radiohead are my life.
Street Spirit has got to be my favourite Radiohead song. It's so difficult for me to listen to it without completely breaking down into tears at this point it's just spectacular.
Didn’t know if you knew this before recording this, but “My Iron Lung” was Radioheads’ f*%# you to “Creep”. If you notice, they incorporated some of “Creep”’s chords in the song and used *Iron Lung* as a metaphor for sustaining the bands’ life/success initial, but knew it had constrained them.
Are you not gunna continue reacting to albums? Please react to Siamese Dream by The Smashing Pumpkins if you do
Oh fucking amazing
I come here for the Radiohead but yes, 100% to siamese dream
Amen to that!
Yes!! Please. I wonder if he'll do Mellon Collies thereafter and how many parts would it take him to finish the album. 😂
Mark Arthur Cruz lmao yeah probably 5
I can't wait for you to listen to Life in a Glasshouse (Amnesiac closer)
bassist here. can say the just bass line, especially towards the end, is really fun to play
you should do a reaction to a rush of blood to the head
For more Muse (and Radiohead) influences may I suggest and request Grace by Jeff Buckley. It made Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list. David Bowie said it would be one of his ten "desert island records." SEGUE! Speaking of whom, if you want another Black Star may I also once again suggest and request Bowie's final album just before his death, Blackstar? It's haunting. It's weird. I love it!
I'm the only who thinks the Ok Computer B sides (Lift and Man of War for example) sounds much more like The Bends than Ok Computer?
They do. Songs like Pearly, Polyethylene, A Reminder, etc do sound like Ok Computer. Somewhere I heard that an early version of Palo Alto was originally titled Ok Computer and was part of the album, they eventually dropped it but kept the title. I don't know if it's true or not.
Amnesiac or the King of limbs from RH, but react to The downward spiral from Nine inch nails too!
I loved your reaction to Street Spirit. It is indeed a very haunting song.
I know a lot of people has commented this, but we’d love a reaction on Turn On the Bright Lights by Interpol. That album is pure rock atmosphere.
Please do Tool - Ænima
Good i was looking forward to your reaction to Just and my iron lung
This is more radiohead than the other radiohead album. This is the core kwkw
please react to siamese dream by the smashing pumpkins
Turn on the bright lights next. Incredible bass on the album
Bloodborne and Radiohead. My favorite game ever and my favorite band ever I think you're making content just for me bro
Great analisis, you seems like a good critic that knows what he is doing, also... Amnesiac!
Enjoy these...also whenever he reacts to a unique section...it is almost always Jonny Greenwood. Anyway, thanks for the amusing posts.
13:58 i just realiced that the mannequin was listening to street spirit when the picture was taken
It’s an album I love and I agree that Street Spirit is the apex, that instantly hooked me and every note is perfect.
High and Dry will grow on you with a few listens and is another favourite.
Nice Dream, Just and My Iron Lung all contain some of my all time favourite pieces of music albeit there are sections that kind of lose me.
PLEASE check out bjorks “homogenic”. It has “unravel” which is one of Thom’s favorite songs.
Can you do a reaction of the very first muse’s song like this is a muse demo or b-sides because they’re great and funny like the hidden track on the resistance EP ( I did a playlist on UA-cam where you can find all of them, it’s called muse B-side/hidden track)
great band
Bulletproof is 👌
11:40 Thanos Erased you from Earth. 12:00 Then The Avengers solved the problem
Hopefully you'll review their B sides and live performances in the future 🤞
I love street spirit
Great video!
You have my applause.
Street Spirit is simply the best song ever
I can’t wait for Amnesiac lol
Amnesiac. Amnesiac. Amnesiac
Where do you vote for next Radiohead album?
I don't get what you mean by "it doesn't sound like Radiohead." To me, "This" is the real Radiohead. I listened to the albums in chronological order though and that's where you made a schoolboy error.
4:42 paused it right before the crazy part lol
My favorite song on the second half of the bends is black star
Oh yeah yeah
Yes, I like Amnesiac, and has a REALLY GOOD songs, some of the best of Radiohead, but... some others don't sound that good, and it's a less cohesive album.
But I love it 'cause "I Might Be Wrong", might be my favourite song of Radiohead.
Yo, have you listened to Doolittle by the Pixies? If you haven't you should react to it.
I'm the only one who think that the Moon shaped pool is their last album? I might ne wrong.
oops... *be
Still would love to see you react to Takk by Sigur Rós. You'd love it.
You should react to the downward spiral or with teeth by Nine Inch Nails
Now on the the questionable Radiohead albums:
Amnesiac - Kid A part 2 album but even weirder.
King of Limbs - It's the mumble album.
Pablo Honey - One hit wonder album.
Can you do audioslave by audioslave please!
amnesiac is my favorite radiohead album, so sad that it didnt win
Love your videos. Been watching them off and on all day. If I may, I HIGHLY recommend checking out TOOL's "Lateralus". There are songs on there that will musically blow you away.
time to go through their b sides hey!? Talk show host/lift.... and so on
You should react to Great Escape by Crippled Black Phoenix next!
Every Radiohead album is better than the other.
Good point. It is difficult to choose a best album or a best song when they all pull you in and don't let go.
The bends and ok computer are superiour
@@thealien7178 depends on the mood entirely IMO. If I'm introducing someone to Radiohead I always suggest In rainbows first..
@@daggiedrop7108 it has the most radiohead sounding songs but i like the unique songs
now do pablo honey just to troll all the people requesting amnesiac
Pablo Honey is great, there is a lot good songs (You, Creep, Blow Out, Lurgee, Vegetable, Prove Yourself) i think the mix is bad because they plays those song better in live performance.
Fun Fact: The My Iron Lung instrumental was actually recorded live in concert.
Yep, the same recording as on the Astoria video, apart from the vocal.
Astoria! IT'S AMAZING I really believe it's one of their best concerts ever, in this one they played some stuff from Pablo Honey, The Bends and B-Sides (I love Maquilladora here, it should be part of The Bends...)
The sound on the video is amazing, on the VHS version especially (the DVD version has a remaster that spoiled it a bit, I've heard - I haven't made a side by side comparison, I know the DVD version didn't blow my mind like the VHS did long ago but I just put that down to the passage of time until someone told me that about the remaster).
@@scatterkeir Astoria video (and seeing them in Chicago last year) reminds me of how underappreciated Blow Out is.
@@ExileOnDaytonStreet when he was talking about how good the closers always are I thought of Blow Out.
Tom Yorke said in an interview once that he was struggling to record the vocals for some of the songs on The Bends because he didn't think you were able to sing falsetto or soft notes without it sounding... Too soft, wanting to be a rebellious punk influenced rock band.
It just so happened that Jeff Buckley was touring London and their producer took Tom to one of Jeff's shows and after the gig he went back to the studio with his producer and laid down the vocals to Fake Plastic Trees in only three takes. After he played back the song he was in tears because he only then realised what he and the band had the potential to be... Great Story!!!
This is an awesome story
Colin is a really underrated bassist, glad you are noticing his bass. Goes unnoticed alot of the time.
Teddyman his bass really shines in “In Rainbows”, I love it so much
@@diego9681 id say TKOL but I guess you're right
Check out the Pixies, especially the album Doolittle. Huge influences on Radiohead for their earlier material.
Also Talking Heads, and their album Remain in Light
Yes they were definitely big Pixies fans, and also REM. Ed's pull-off Rickenbacker part on Bulletproof sounds like it could be Peter Buck playing it. Jonny was also a HUGE Magazine fan (which never got very big here in the US). In fact when guitarist John McGeoch died they asked Jonny to fill in for the 2012 reunion show, but he felt overwhelmed and sadly declined.
Did you go for a nightwalk from 11:36 to 11:54?
the 2+2=5 at the end doe
I couldnt notice it
My brain continued the song after hearing that little buzz.
11:36 goes black because my camera does the big dumb, it comes back dw!
I guess the camera got The Bends. Oh no
I think its not your first reaction.
Do Neutral milk hotel's on Avery Island and then In The Aeroplane Over the Sea
Dude you gotta do TKOL live in the basement. Totally unique.
Kid A yeah ! Think he should listen to the studio album first (he could do it in one go because it’s so short) and then watch/listen live from the basement
You should do like a recap video of your top 10 current fav Radiohead songs to show how much they’ve grown on you, if they have!
Thats a great idea.
I definitely have been planning on doing that! But I also wanted to get through all the albums first. Should I make one now anyways?
@@NightwalkReal Do all the albums first but do them fast lol
@@NightwalkReal There are only 2 two album left. You can do it we believe you 😂
@@liquidmetal5616 No, wait. It would be far better
That little part at 2:01 is actually Thom screaming lol the guitar does match with his intensity there tho!
YES! HAHAH XD
I wish Black Star would get more appreciation, it's one of my favorite Radiohead songs, but I'm soooo glad you liked Street Spirit. Again, one of my favorite Radiohead songs.
yes!!
GodNotAvailable, street spirit is elite
GodNotAvailable
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaahhh!!
Yeah man, Black Star is my favorite song by Radiohead
The bends is my fav RH album. Actually I love all RH stuff, but this one! Mood of the album reminds me old videotapes with date in the corner of screen, which my father used to do. He was driving in our small city in Russia and shoot everything he can so other people in our times can see what it was look like in 90s. And it was always sunny, everyone I know was alive and life seems to be easier.
It's my fav also! I love everything in this album, specially the rock songs like Just,Planet Telex, My Iron lungs and melancholic like Fake Plastic Trees, Bullet Proof and my fav of all...Street Spirit / Fade out. That's exactly what I love in this album, the balance of Rock/Melancholic
