23 year letter carrier here. Everyone and their grandmother knew Amazon was using the post office to build its logistics and delivery infrastructure. The post office has facilitated its own demise. Why else would Amazon demand we deliver their packages on Sundays? Amazon playing 3d chess the post office playing checkers.

@ I feel bad for the new hires. They are abused unlike 20 some years ago. When I started in 2001, starting hourly rate was around $14/hr and you were a career employee. Now In 2024 starting around $19/hr and not career. Throw in the corruption in the NALC and it’s clear to see they are sabotaging the career craft to break the union and make privatization a lot easier. Every other major union has bargained 25-60% pay increases in their contracts over the last year. The president of the NALC agreed to 5.1% raise for letter carriers over the next 3 years. Corruption at its finest.

Amazon and the UPS are getting over on the Post Office. UPS also delivers Amazon packages but their drivers don’t have to work on Sunday or holidays. Every morning an Amazon and UPS truck drops packages to the Post Office for them to deliver. One thing about Amazon is that the don’t hire drivers, so all those vans you see are either leased or bought by their subcontractors. Amazons subcontractors have been having a lot of lawsuits in the past years so they only work their drivers only 40 hours a week. USPS has no limits, they will work you from 7am to 12am with only one lunch and 2 breaks if needed.

Technically they do but new hires still in their probationary period will do what they are told out of fear of being fired. If management gives you a direct order to carry the mail or receive discipline a lot of carriers that don’t know their rights will go back out to deliver. Hell I was one of them. I worked 16hrs during peak because I was told not to come back until I finished route that hadn’t been delivered in 3 days.

Everyone knows it’s a terrible deal for USPS. And it’s not just Amazon being delivered on Sundays. Amazon, UPS, DHL and USPS get delivered. The postal service delivered for all the big shippers. And since the mail doesn’t run in Sundays, meaning the carriers would not normally be delivering on their routes on Sunday, it is a complete day of labor that the PO has to pay for. Several CCAs and a couple supervisors. Plus gas for the vehicles.

Amazon delivery service is leased out to private owners .They lease those vans they hire their own employees, but they have to follow Amazon guidelines and standards.. It's competitive for those delivery companies.. if their employees don't deliver on time, they take some of their routes and give them to another Amazon delivery service.. They pay $10,000, and they have to have over $100,000 in revenue..in order to get an Amazon delivery service.. They have high turnover rates because of the demands they put on their delivery drivers.. I worked for Amazon as a driver.. The Amazon delivery service is nowhere near as big as USPS postal delivery or FedEx and UPS.. There is no comparison..FedEx and UPS also deliver for Amazon because they need their help..

Our unions were silent on this because the Union health plans just got a major cash cow upgrade. So, your senior employees & retirees will absolutely be taxpayer funded. This is bad for postal workers.
Until we get leadership at the NEB level who have a vested interest in the wages, hours and working conditions of people on the workroom floor, the unions will be little more than a group insurance buyers’ club and we’ll see more and more of our unions focus on expanding its membership to non-USPS private sector presort and logistical businesses.

Great video. Well put together making it an easy watch. Thank you.
The USPS was created to function as a "Mail Service" to be used as a rightful benefit that you get for being an American citizen. It was never meant to be exploited for business's to abuse. It was never meant to be anything more than a predominately "mail" based service, with packages being a side perk. Lastly, it was never meant to be a profitable business.
It's not profitable to pay a person to travel 30 miles down a country road and door deliver a package worth 10 dollars to a farmhouse sitting on 60 acres of land. Or remote towns in Alaska. Or many many other places that encompass's the definition of, "every American household". That's why it's a "benefit service of entitlement" for America's citizens. A business just can not be profitable with this promise and arrangement.
So when they argue that the post office loses revenue all the time the main rebuttle that's never accepted as a reasonable answer is, "it's doesn't exist to make a profit due to it not being a business. It exists as a benfit, much like a charity or any other funded organization that is given to the people as an entitlement.
So in what world is it ok for a business like Amazon, and trust me when they're gone walmart and target will just be the next ones standing in line to nab the same deal, and exploit the USPS "service" for their own profiteering opportunity. On the backs of hard working carriers who now are delivering packages on sunday and even during state of emergency snow/hurricane shut downs.
Currently the post office is 2 years past contract negotiations for it's employee's and continue to present low ball wage offers in comparison to costs of living. The post office perhaps doesn't have the money to be able to offer a better wage for the work being done. They're still driving around 40 year old trucks that are now by definition considered to be "Classic" historic vehicles.
The leadership of the postal service has went all in with a ton of money invested in "super centers" based off Amazon's business model. Everything revolved around them including how they plan on charging all of their promised electric vehicles. The problem is 1. they never really had the money to warrant such a huge change. But more importantly 2. Went all in on these changes and had to stop their implamentation because they actually don't work well at all on so many levels.
The postal leadership makes bad decisions. It's often theorized that the leadership is actually trying to do a bad job as to coerce congress into getting so fed up with it that they'll finally let them privatize the entire thing. Which of course is in the interest of business's like Amazon. "Buy a stamp for 5 dollars or you can get it for 2 dollars with your next purchase of a 12 pack of coka cola" ...

President Trump summed it all up in that clip, and he's 100% right. USPS stupidly gave Amazon a rate that Amazon would have been stupid not to take. And the PO is loosing $. And now is asking the employees, Letter Carriers especially to bear the brunt of the cost in the form of lower wages. Disgraceful. NALC was just offered a 1.3% annual raise. Can you imagine this? After the expiration of the 2019 contract they had. The inflation rate over those last 4 years is 19-21% depending. This is a terrible injustice. And the public is being told otherwise. Unbelievable.
