Koufonisi or Lefki island is located 4 miles South of the cape Goudouras or 10 miles south east of Makry gialos at the south coast of Lasithi.

The island despite its size it has the amazing number of 36 extremely beautiful beaches with white or light yellow sand and crystal clear water.
In the Summer season the easiest and cheaper way to reach the island is to book an excursion from Makry Gialos.
The island is uninhabited and dry, its mainland is covered with sand and bushes the highest point is 31 meters above the sea level the only buildings that still remain there are the church of Agios Nikolaos and the fishermen's shelter.
Koyfonisi is protected as an "area of intense natural beauty"
