      That software store snap not being able to update is the worst bug they added when starting with snaps. On top of slow-to-start apps of course and the massive number of mount points shown with findmnt.
      Every fresh Ubuntu 22.04 install (even the later point releases like 22.04.4) had the same first-boot update of the store which was unable to be completed without killing the store and running sudo snap refresh.

My system is a Ryzen 5 2600 paired with 16gb of ram and a GTX 1050 Ti. I only use my computer for browsing the web and i don't play video games. I need a long term stable distribution for daily use. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you in advance.

      Since no one more knowledgeable has replied ... I'm in the same box, no pun intended. After a good bit of research and a couple hours testing from USB on an old desktop PC, I'm liking Mint LDME. I was pleasantly surprised at how much just worked as I expected it to. It reminds me of Win 10. Many things are better and more customizable; a few, not so much. I have a lot of experience with Linux Ubuntu Server, but limited experience with Linux on the desktop. I'm planning to run Bottles and/or Wine for a few Windows apps that have no native version available. Specifically, the Affinity suite of apps. No clue how that will go, but I'm hopeful! Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in. Good luck!

    The only reason to use Cinnamon is the Menta theme, which was in earlier Mint distros, but it is broken.
    I'd rather go with Mint Edge (kernel 6.5), but since it has plenty of bugs with Flatpak apps like Skype (session not saving), Telegram (can't register autostart because of D-Bus and portal problems), and a red dmesg log (thanks to my mobo and new hardware), I will stay with classic Ubuntu 24.04, which is unbeatable in every aspect among all distros in the world.

    I have a system76 laptop bought directly from them with nothing altered, no additional PPAs, but I still have my old laptop due to it having an SD card reader and DVD drive. That had Ubuntu Studio on it for years until an update not only shoved snaps on it, but wiped the settings and configurations for the deb applications I'd been accustom to using for so long, and made 8gb RAM look and feel like a 1gb Vista basic from a disposable laptop originally made in 2006.
    Now it has LMDE Cinnamon on it which has been working more stable and faster than when Ubuntu Studio was on it before and after Ubuntu Studio updated to proprietary code without my consent. Now with KDE plasma that runs even smoother and better than before, with a nice '90s retrofuturism OS GUI.

      Snap is a package manager for lazy people who don't want to read text files and man pages, and learn Linux properly.
      Cinnamon is a desktop environment for people that like wasting valuable CPU cycles on unnecessary eye candy. (Probably the same lazy people that never read text files.)
      The two are therefore not related - not that I use either (given I am not lazy, know how to use native package managers properly, and don't like wasting CPU cycles just to post my desktop screenshots on Reddit).

Be it problems with customized environment, pulseaudio/pipewire, broken Steam DEB in repositories (22.04 and 23.10 intentional?), crashing SNAPs or now with 24.04 black screen on clean install. I want my system to be widely used, usable and well maintained. Alas, Ubuntu does not meet my expectations. Currently trying Bazzite - It is great, be it heavily customized and immutable. The theming is very inconsistent. Firefox is white, calculator is. I hate that. If you're using a dark theme everything should open with the dark theme. 24.04 is a buggy mess. Better wait for the point release.

    I have been a Mint user for 5 years now, for me at least, Mint replaces Ubuntu, but one possible use case for Ubuntu is if you dont like the desktops available from Mint.
    But Ubuntu Cinnamon? Not sure why they bothered? It has to have a very small user base.

    This is based on Debian Cinnamon. Why not use Debian Cinnamon instead? I understand this is a demonstration, but generally speaking this Spin is not needed when there is Linux Mint Cinnamon Edition, Linux Mint Cinnamon Debian Edition and Debian 12 Cinnamon.

    • @AndreaBorman
      @AndreaBorman 26 днів тому +2

      I have got Debian 12 Cinnamon and I have not had any problems at all. So I don't know why everything is crashing on the Ubuntu version. It shouldn't be like that. Maybe Rythmbox and Totem are the Snap versions. That could be why.

    • @Parvez01358
      @Parvez01358 26 днів тому +2

      @@AndreaBorman I'd say so as well. I don't use Snaps so I can't verify your comment but generally speaking, I'd say Snaps aren't very reliable so this doesn't make Ubuntu Cinnamon appealing, at all.

    • @AndreaBorman
      @AndreaBorman 26 днів тому +1

      @@Parvez01358 Ubuntu should give you a choice of if you want Snaps but they don't. It is part of the system so if you remove it it breaks Ubuntu. With Debian which I am using, it's there in the repositories ,if you want to install it, but you don't have to. It's the same with Flatpak you won't get it unless you choose to install it. Linux Mint does not use Snap and Flatpak is not part of Mint so can be removed. With Ubuntu it's another story. You cannot remove Snap without breaking the system. Also this version looks like there are a lot of bugs from what I see in the video. I would not use this desktop. If I want Cinnamon I will use Debian Cinnamon. There are no problems with that at all. Linux Mint Cinnamon is also a good choice. Just stick with those two.
