- A beautiful ballad from trumpeter Lex French. Based in Montreal, French has been game to play on some early cornets and trumpets in a number of Jazz, Period. films. Here he is playing on a 1947 Holton 25 cornet. The instrument has a gorgeous, mellow voice, somewhat like a flugelhorn, and French makes great use of it on this Sinatra ballad, "My Ideal".
French is joined on stage at Diese Onze Jazz Club by Al McLean, Al Bourgeois and Jonathan Chapman. Both Lex French and Al McLean are being recorded by rare vintage Japanese ribbon microphones: McLean by a Toshiba Type A, and French by a Toshiba Type B from the NHK Japanese Broadcasting Company.
I want to play like Lex french...jajaja someday. I am practicing Is amazing.
Lex love the mellow sound of the cornet! Thanks
It's such a great experience to listen to this beautiful song (My Ideal, 1930, music by Richard A. Whiting and Newell Chase and Words by: Leo Robin) and these stunningly talented musicians.
