The reality is before the war all pro western post communist countries doing very well economically. GDP per capita of Poland, Romania, Latvia, Estonia, Lithunia are 6-8 times higher than Ukraine.
Vietnam is different than Ukraine in so many ways.

The USA won every battle in Vietnam. The war was "lost" because politics decided they no longer wanted to be at war even if it was going well. So outlasting the political will to keep a war going is technically a strategy to beating the USA in a prolonged guerrilla war. The problem is you are going to lose basically every battle in the process and if there is a reason for the USA to keep fighting that will overpower the will of politicians to stop the war then you might just be fighting forever or until you lose. A threat to global shipping is a pretty important reason to keep fighting. It's also important enough that the USA wouldn't be alone.
