If it wheren't for UA-cam, I'm not sure I would have realized just how little correlation there is between technical expertise on an instrument, (or at least on guitar) and that musicians level of creative sophistication
There’s a potential use for this thing as the opening to some songs. I didn’t hate it and am glad to know it exists. Not likely to ever be on my board though.
I mean, clearly this isn't going to do much for a guitar played the way Paul plays or in the type of music Paul plays 😄 But can absolutely work with a guitar to play synth style sounds if you're playing big ambient style music, or could work as a quick trick in a Pink Floyd or Radio Head kind of thing...
I completely agree Jamie, I’m sure someone with a bit more talent especially in that sort of musical genre could get some great sounds out of it. It’s just a bit of a one trick one song pony for me.
I appreciate the honest review. You don't have to pretend to like a pedal that is useless to you. This actually helps form a reasonable guess whether or not the pedal works for you... I think if this pedal is used with a good reverb and delay pedal(s, maybe stack 2 delays) you could get some really interesting ambient sounds which would make for cool swells. even throwing some fuzz or distortion and a boss harmonist.
🤣 I have it in the M Audio BlackBox. Roger Linn made a pedal back in the 2000's called the Adrenalinn III. John Mayer used this effect in 2009 in "Bigger Than My Body". Bought the Adrenalinn and started writing the song right away. Can be used as a rythmic background... maybe ? 🤔🙄 The Japanese quirky pedal is the Korg Miku. Cheers guys !
Such a hilarious video! 🤣 Arpanoid is from my experience excellent when making piezo noise. And it works also nice & more musical way if you put it in a loop that you can control (fade in/out) with an expression pedal. But for sure, not the always on pedal 😄
I'm going to be very rude here, but I just need to get it out of my system. This is the fifth time I see a great UA-cam guitarist unable to look forward and outward when presented something actually different We're all singing the praises and trying to copy the songs and sounds of all these groundbreaking guitarists and trying to emulate their techniques, but this is the kind of thing that truly separates them from most guitarists. I mean isn't it obvious that this is a modern pendant of now lauded pieces of gear that revolutionary albums and whole careers where and are based on? If Les Paul, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Pete Townshend, Jeff Beck, Brian May, Matt Bellamy, anyone in Radiohead, Tom Morello, Trent Reznor, etc. at any point in their career got this thing thrust in their hand and where told they had to create a song using the Arpanoid or die, they'd all be hard pressed to keep it down to one song once the creative juices for flowing, but every UA-cam guitarist out there is so close-minded they're incapable of working with anything that doesn't sound like what's already been done. It just goes to show how little correlation there is between technical expertise on an instrument, (or at least on guitar) and that musicians level of creative sophistication. Come on man, expand that tiny little comfort zone of yours
I’m kind by it surprised too. I think too many guitarists get caught up in what this stuff sounds like in isolation and then they don’t want to look foolish stepping out. It’s a pedal going through a scale with a bit of a computer quality but it’s not atonal unless you make it. Something as simple as looping yourself strumming three chords of uneffected guitar and then hit a chord in the right key set at speed you want would be a nice texture to most people that fits nearly any song. This thing is really nice on slow settings into a big reverb too. Even if you played straight ahead blues this has a momentary switch and you could do some creative call and response lines similar to a Leslie on faster settings that would stand out from others doing similar music. When I try out something like this I try to play to the pedal and let that guide me. It’s not for everyone but I’m kind of surprised how dismissive players can be about something outside another tube screamer clone.
I challenge the pair of you to come up with something on guitar which features this pedal front and centre. I'll throw £10 at charity for the best one and the other Wednesday night club regulars will likely chip in as well!
Ask Reba Meyers from Code Orange. I saw a few great video's of Reba doing amazing groundbreaking guitar work with a slew of pedals. Kind of like the next step forward or sideways. I once came into possession of a pitch shifter and felt much like, "what the heck do I do with this thing?" Lol.
It could be useful as something in a break - as a song transitions - say at the end of a real jangly passage, the song stops for a breath and this quirky arpeggiation is going on, the you can slam into a heavier section or move into something lighter or change keys....
If I turned around and POOF, there it was, I'd use it to mess with people who took the heroic dose. If I saw it at Guitar Center I'd scoff at any price over about eight bucks.
I could not stop laughing long rough times here anything past the first minute.too funny. P.s. the PALISADES IS THE DUAL OVERDRIVE I'VE FOUND WORKS BEST IN ALL OCCASIONS. WELL THAT AND THE PROTEIN DRIVE BY BROWNE.
This is a good pedal for 1, holding the door open, 2 leveling a really wobbly table, 3 Bash James on the head, 4 Definately annoy Paul, 5 Put in a display case and never use, etc James no matter how much you defend it Paul hates it
It's purpose in life is... to be installed in a toy radio and then put on children's bikes. Would make a trip to the park with mom and dad perfectly weirdness. Seriously. EQD should look into it, start a complete new line of products...
Very limited. I had one for a day, used it on a song then got really bored with it and put it up for sale. There again I have the equally weird EQD Rainbow Machine and use it all the time.

Well now you know.

@@TheStudioRats very niche for sure
I like it as I also enjoy weird effects. Tom Morello would wear this pedal out with his kill switch chopping.

Hahahah perfect timing! I'm just finishing a build of a clone of this exact pedal!
I’m sure you have more talent than me Anthony, and you’ll get some great sounds out of it.
@@TheStudioRats you have more faith in my ability than I.
How on earth do you clone this pedal?!? The degree of difficulty must be of the charts
And So I Watch You From Afar has a song called Arpanoid that uses it
Good for intro/a break in a song
Intro to ghosts by Japan, perhaps?
Yep! I would almost bet my retirement check that Fripp or Adrien B has this one on their pedal board.
Paul, the look on your face when you heard that pedal was classic!
In American TV, this is what they call "Jumping the shark."
I gonna buy this pedal! It's awesome!
so funny to watch Paul trying to be positive about this - totally enjoyed the 10 mins

The black box was great.

I spent a year playing with a guy that had a board of only those types of pedals, one night.

Hey now! Fripp is sacred!
Makes a great door stop
It sounds way better in front of your dirty section, then the notes sound more alike to your input tone.

I love stuff like this, but then I’m building Eurorack modules just now and my guitar abilities are limited to cowboy chords and ambient swells 🤣
😂I dare James to use this pedals on his drum bus.
That might improve things.
Love you guys ! Vancouver ,Canada.

I was thinking that this sounded like a Robert Fripp solo or some piece of prog rock kit.
Haha, you could try a demo of the Boss SY-200, though.. would love to see that

I think it’s a great pedal if you find it useless stop playing the blues . If that’s the only thing you can play on the guitar good luck buddy
Woah there fella, there’s other music than blues?? Tell me of this witchcraft.
if only I had a gig in a cheesy 1970s Syfy movie. 😂🤣
Marty Robbins Bass player probably thought it had potential
im not a minute in and im laughing my ass off thanks guys
LOL...okay, I thought, reading the title, it was gonna be that Fart Pedal....but no....

Complexity abhors complexity, less is more.... try a looper... @ 5:18....
agree with Paul.. trash pedal, nice video well done :-)

So funny seeing a basic synth tool breaking the brains of guitarists.
Dude, maybe you should just adapt.
pointless. not sure why you posted that.
I wonder the same
@@TheStudioRats Thanks Paul
