    I just want to say that your flying presentations are the best, far superior than American ones. Your audio and explantions are first class. Keep producing the videos. (John Spence from UK).

      Thank you John, I’m grateful for you saying that. I really enjoy making useful and hopefully entertaining videos for our community, so I appreciate that.

    As someone flying a clapped out PA28 I can only dream of this kind of setup :)

      At the end of the day if we’re all up there sharing the love of aviation, it really doesn’t matter what’s in the cockpit!

      as someone hoping to have a clapped out Pa-28 one day... you could probably add significant elements of this for WAY less than a Garmin sponsored , super panel that may be arguably worth 1/2 the value of the plane (or in your case, more than the value of your airplane, lol). @stefandrury as a Garmin ambassador, maybe they could work with you on a video for a budget version of this setup using like a GDL-52 and an iPad to get weather, traffic, WAAS GPS , backup AHARS/Synthetic vision. You can get that for like $2k and does not require months of downtime and thousands (or tens of thousands) of dollars of install to do it (mostly plug and play). There is always a way , right ?

      @@dugintexas7908 you're absolutely right and even just SkyDemon on my ipad produces a huge amount of added value. It's all the coupled autopilot stuff that appeals though.

    What a cool set up. You explain it all so well. I’m not a pilot but I love aviation and technology and seeing how the two work together is fascinating to me.

    I think this is just wildly fantastic and I love it thanks for showing this content it really is great. I’m looking to upgrade my Cessna cardinal RG panel but the downside to it all is the outrageous cost of it all. Just a basic 2x G5 and gnx375 plus gfc 500 is an 80k install. What you have is a serious bit of kit and for only a small group of people affordable. Australia is a seriously expensive place for aviation compared to other countries it seems. I wished it was more easily affordable so we could all enjoy what you have in your panel. But we will just have to keep dreaming and drooling over your content. Stay safe

    My how things have changed! Just getting back into flying after I had to sell my Saratoga in 2009. The tech is amazing! Thanks for showing us how it's done.

    Awesome explanation and insight into learning instrument systems. Thank you Stef! I will probably never experience as I’m not pilot, however I still enjoy learning from you & accomplishments. 😊

    Sorry if you covered this already, but what’s your backup in case there’s a catastrophic electronics failure?

    • @StefanDrury
      @StefanDrury  Рік тому +2

      You'd have to define 'catastrophic'. The aircraft has two alternators and two batteries, there is a lot of electrical redundancy. In addition, the GI275 (little round standby instrument below the main left screen) has its own independent electrical source and can give me an HSI, artificial horizon, even GPS moving map if I need it. So the liklehood of everything 'going dark' is incredibly small.

    What would you do if all your electronics failed in flight? Genuine question, not a negative response, Thanks for the video, Cheers.

    Did you Avidyne have the two Garmin GNS 430W? If so you had the capability to set a vertical profile under VSR (vertical speed required)
    Yes it's not as slick as the newer avionics but that could be said about any upgrades

    Love your setup. Mine similar. Far prefer touchscreens and GTN combo than G1000.

    • @StefanDrury
      @StefanDrury  Рік тому

      I’ve flown with both and whilst I do love the classic G1000 I much prefer touchscreens nowadays. Even on bumpy days.

    Not a pilot but I find the technology fascinating 👏👏 Just out of curiosity, is it a legal requirement to fly with everything up to date, database wise?

    Great video! Thanks! Why don't you use synthetic vision on your PFD?

    • @StefanDrury
      @StefanDrury  Рік тому

      I do, but because the aircraft is on the ground for this demo and didn’t have a GPS signal the SV overlay doesn’t show. You can see it in some of the clips from when I’m flying though.

    With all this tech do planes usually have sound systems? Can you listen to beats as you’re flying?

    • @StefanDrury
      @StefanDrury  Рік тому +3

      Some newer aircraft do have satellite radio built in that you can listen to in flight. But most headsets have Bluetooth which you can connect to a phone/iPad to listen to music whilst flying.

    • @evanscm3
      @evanscm3 Рік тому +2

      most modern audio panels have a bluetooth capability - it means either everyone (or just the guys in the back) can listen to something via bluetooth rather than the radio / intercom. they almost all have a cabin speaker as well, but as previously mentioned the cabin is noisy so this isn't usually used in flight

    Well, you were sponsored to do it, otherwise the 60k yankie dollars is grotesquely overpriced.
    Avionics should be both vastly better and vastly cheaper. Certification is very hollow for something as complex as avionics, will they go out and certify all the different component makers, the board makers, the display makers, naturally not. It's 1990s tech at 1970s price and that's just terrible in 2023. Displays and electronics cost close to nothing today. Software will cost some to make but with a few good men, once you have done the 3D once it's not that difficult to keep going. And duplications cost nothing.
    I found out the other day that a Boeing 777 doesn't have synthetic vision. They are about as blind as the analog days of 1960. Bizarre in such an expensive plane.
    It would also be nice to have a couple of heated cameras that could pop out for a clear view in case the windshield got all messed up. Again, costing next to nothing by airplane standards.
    On the 20+ inch displays. Samsung has a 27 inch curved monitor for 120$. Samsung galaxy tab A8 10.5" tablet computer for 199. And Garmin wants 10000$ for much lower tech device and that's their cheapest certified model. Which doesn't have navigation because why would you have that when you can pay 12000 more for that trivial functionality on a tiny display.
    GA is in a sad state. Avionics is one of the areas that should be so much better. All those old junk planes with steam gauges should get an easy to install all in one unit for no more than 2000. With 'navigation'.

      Haha, well I legally could, just chose not to as I didn’t have enough time to plan, file, and fly an IFR flight that day. But I did chuckle at this comment 😂
