    Amazing explanation! There is surprisingly little high-quality Complex Analysis content online. Engineering students really need this material esp in the US. Please post more! Practice problems would be especially helpful. Thanks for sharing your knowledge :)

    It turns out that in this example partial fraction decomposition provides a simpler path to the solution without the need for an algebraic "trick". Just to be clear, I'm not slamming this approach but this only works if you see the trick. Partial fractions always works but it is not always simpler.

    Now I think I know how to derive the Laurent series for arcoth(x). and then turn it into a continued fraction. It equals to 0th order legendre function of the second kind.
