WELL I'LL BE!!! Nemesis Sub Terra (the attraction mentioned that used a similar concept to Alien Encounter but closed) will be reopening on May 27th! Let's hope it stays open for a good while!
9:19 I wouldn’t really say that the alien sat on top of your seat eating the maintenance worker, YET. In the attraction, the alien is still on the cat walks, so all the blood can fall on ALL of the guests. After the fake guest says, “who’s brain is this?” The alien starts flying in the room, another fake guest behind you says “Alien! Don’t eat me! Eat this one!” The guest from behind then kicks your chair, (yes, you can feel the kick from the seat as well, generated from the seat.) and THEN lands on your seat. Then licking on you, breathing on you, and unnerving audio to go with it. Although, amazing work on the video! I love how you added the kill count in there lol.
When I was young and went on SGE I thought it’s was super lame. Now that I’m older I wish I would have gone through it a few times just to see what was left over from AE. I would hand over a crisp Benjamin to experience AE. The story, pre-show, acting, and the actual experience all combine to make one of the best attractions for that “hard to reach” group for Disney (males 17-35). Great video!!!
They could retheme this ride as Cassowary Encounter at Animal Kingdom, where a cassowary bird growls at you. It will close in two weeks after the cassowary claws someone to death.
Great video! Thanks for your comment on mine too, pretty crazy we both made a video on the same attraction within 1 day of each other! I think your idea for a Guardians redo of Alien Encounter would totally work, it's the sort of thing I could see Disney doing to be honest and the theming would totally fit the show. That being said I feel like Disney are moving away from these 4D effect type shows that spray things at guests etc, like SGE, Honey I Shrunk the Audience, and with it's age I imagine Tough to be a Bug doesn't have long left. Maybe it's just my own dislike of that stuff but I feel that most people don't enjoy those sorts of shows which makes them have fairly low attendance. Also considering Disney already tried a reskin of Alien Encounter with SGE and it didn't work I feel that the most likely thing for the space is an eventual gutting and complete repurposing. Keep these videos coming, really enjoyed it!
I think what mainly didn't work with SGE was what made Alien Encounter work. The tech is designed to be scary, so marketing scary tech with a kid friendly character leaves no real target audience. The kids who like the character are horrified and the people looking to get scared are bored.
I’m very thankful that I got to ride this before it closed. I thought the ride was great and hated the fact that they got rid of it. Despite the negative reception, I didn’t mind the Stich ride that replaced it. It wasn’t as good as Alien Encounter, but I still enjoyed it. I honestly think the biggest mistake was putting it in the Magic Kingdom and not EPCOT.
Personally, I stand by that it's biggest mistake was not being based on the movie Alien. I know the senior imagineers wouldn't let it be, but had it been based on Ridley Scott's Alien and somewhere in Hollywood Studios I think it would still be there. Just because it would be among other scary thrill rides like Tower of Terror, it would've had built in parental controls thanks to it's IP tie-in, and so far nothing odd or problematic has come about any of the recognizable figures in the movie.
Oh no, we lost a theater show that tormented arachnophobics, a spinny thing, the bumper cars that were too slow to bump, and they moved the other spinny thing else. I'm so sad

I wish I actually got to do it. It closed when I was WAY too young to enjoy it and I didn't even go to Disney World for the first time until 2012
