- Manuel contracted tuberculosis while serving in the Navy, which affected his mental health and cut his military career short. He began attending nursing school but started using drugs to try to cope with underlying mental health challenges. Manuel’s behavior eventually landed him in prison, where he received substance use treatment. After his release, he continued therapy, including CBT, DBT, and EMDR. He credits the care he got for helping him succeed professionally, making him a better father, and igniting his passion to help Veterans like himself.
