Hello friend, thank you so much for everything. I just like you and your channel about jazz, because you say name of all keys, while you teach. I am blind, but i can also learn with your method. I will go on to like and share your videos
To me sheet music even though it's centuries old..is the best way to communicate what you are playing. Pythagoras..was instrumental in developing the octave.. It does take much more effort to share this and Johnny does show details.
Jonny is awesome. His videos have helped me tremendously. If you haven't already, check out some of his performances that aren't teaching oriented, too.The man can play. I'm a big fan.
omg I LOVE the way you teach with passion and fun!!! :D Used to watch PianoPig but this guy is never laughing and sooo serious... So boring to watch. But your videos are so motivating!!! LOVE IT
Hey thanks a lot for this! Really simple for how good it sounds. By the way, I really like this style of video where you explain a few different methods for left hand stuff, like the blues one.
wassup guys jonny may here and today... i see a lot of beginners do this... and there is nothing wrong with it... but _guys_ there is a much better way to... literally every video -.-
So hes using 9th on every chord but the nice one is the G with the added 13th as well. That's why this 2-5-1 has a better sound then regular 7th chords
@@edwardsharp03 True, but I think it would be still wise to let it be known that they are 9th chords. It's also good to put theory behind what you're doing, especially if you're using them as an instructional video
Oops, just saw other related comments. Don't wish to reopen that can of worms, but it also confused me, not being very familiar with ninth chords and the various naming conventions.
Everyone talks about chords, harmonies, progressions, etc. But nobody talks about technique, which is what I would like to understand better. Non-legato, or legato, etc. How it should feel etc. Should the pedal help.
This is related to the rootless voicing question. A voicing will not have the root..except in the Bass. There has to be a root. Take the C maj.chord..C E G B D.. . It's just a Emin 7 Sans the C root. Another thing..the base player can play the C. Etc. Nobody will be stepping on each other.
You can add extensions to 7ths but still call them that via lead sheet, though I agree he should've just labeled them what he actually played for beginners. Those Chords being; Dmin9, G13, & Cmaj9 respectively.
would have been nice to put a 'v' in the last Cmaj bar on the 'steps' methode. It sounds kinda stupid to be honest to just walk in cmaj while as a bassplayer you can actually just play V's wherever you want (kind of). Makes the two boring cmaj bars more interesting...
He playing a Dm "rootless voicing", it's basically a Dm9 chord but without the D, as you are playing the D in the bass so theres no need to play it again! There's tons of videos that explain rootless voicings.
No. I'm a bass player, not a pianist, but when you walk the bass, you usually play the chord's root on beat 1 and then anything else that leads to the next chord.
Yeet Me Into The Abyss yeah you can’t just learn all the possible bass lines. There would be thousands, and then thousands more chord progressions each.
Pretty much. I hate when bassists constantly play notes on the "one" of the chord that have nothing to do with the chords. I mean its ok here and there to play but when every damn chord has something other than the root and they say "this is what all my jazz books tell me to do" 🤢
Your so-called "Rootless Voicings" would be easier if the chord symbol absolutely described the chord. We have developed new chord symbols that do just that!! Nice video.
@@woomy8971 They are explained in our eBooks and used in our videos - a simple example is that we use ROMAN NUMERALS in our videos so that you can play in any key. And that the Maj-min 7 is now Maj 7 b3 - now that exactly explains the chord!
Going down from G to D is a fourth not a fifth. Going up from D to G is a fifth. A better way to describe what you were saying, you go down a fourth from G to D to reach the fifth of the chord G.

huh?
Great

i really love your vidio!
The problem for me is anticipating the next chord. I seem to have a mental block or a lack of some concept.

C B C C# could be a walking line in the second bar of the C
Aren't those 9th chords?

"Upper neighbours" is tri tone substitution no?
