I appreciate many of Dr. Evans' sermons. But, it is our individual responsibility to pursue a relationship with God and learn the Word for ourselves. Too often, we rely upon religious leaders to feed us knowledge. Ultimately, people end up deifying religious leaders, even when the religious leaders deviate from God.

It's an archived message. For months, Pastor Evans hadn't released anything via IG, FB or other social media outlets. The week prior to Dr. Evans stepping down, all his children were on stage and Anthony Evans Jr. was making a statement about how thankful he was for a father and pastor who lead the church for more than 40 years without a scandal. Next week, he stepped down. My biggest question is why did the elders tell us that Pastor Evans would be coming back in January of 2025 and we saw him for a couple Sundays - then, he's gone. Fast forward to a few weeks ago and now "the elders have decided he's not going to return". There's zero information. No press release. The almost 50 years of Dr. Evans building and leading gets taken away by the elders???!!! And, Jonathan Evans is an awesome man, we have had great conversations and he's an excellent YOUTH PASTOR. But, he and Bobby Gibson (interim) as pastors of OCBF? And Anthony being head of praise - that's a whole subject in itself. What is going on in our church???
This has quietly been the theme of my year this year. It bothers me to no end the way that some Christians have fused Americanism and Christianity into one "faith". The problem lies in the fact that there are many Christians whose hope is still invested in this world (that is in America) and not in the kingdom of God that Jesus promised was soon to come. They talk of "saving America" as if that was the mission that God called us to. It isn't and the more time we as believers waste haplessly trying to influence society through politics and legislation, the less time the actual work of the kingdom is being accomplished (which is to reach people all over the world with the message of the cross and the miracle of salvation). Jesus didn't come to "save America", He came to save humanity. To be sure, He has already promised many times and ways that He is going to destroy this world along with America at the end of this age.
The “will” of the Father 📖 Obedience to the “will” of God is what true Christianity is all about. It began with our forefather Adam who had been deceived into serving his OWN free will, as opposed to serving the will of God (Genesis 2:17). Adam’s disobedience to the will of God had caused the human race to become subjected to the will of our FLESH and NOT to the will of the SPIRIT (Galatians 6:7-9). For example, when we put forth our best efforts to resist our fears, doubts and worldly temptations, we often succumb to the will of the flesh and fail to REMAIN faithful to the “will” of God. The reason for our failure is that our fleshly willpower to live righteous is extremely weak in comparison to our fallen sinful nature (Matthew 26:41). Our sinful behaviors that we inherited from Adam is much POWERFUL and dominant than our GOOD intentions (Romans 5:12). Our intention to be good by continuing to refrain from committing evil deeds are susceptible to our innate sinful nature (Romans 7:21,22). Everyone is aware that lying is an evil deed. As a matter of fact lying is one of the most repulsive sins that God HATE the most (101:7). Now make a promise to yourself that you will NOT tell another lie as long as you live. Refraining from lying should be an easy thing to do because it does not require any physical effort or any emotional problem solving…right? Now let’s just see how long it will take for you to break the promise? Not having the innate ability to live according to the scriptures is why EVERY human being is in desperate need of (the) Savior who had died to remove ALL our PAST, PRESENT and FUTURE sins. Without Him we are hopeless!!! What does the “will” of God look like?.. Well, I would first begin by examining the life of Abraham, the father of the Jews. It was the sovereign will of God to test Abraham’s faith and OBEDIENCE by requesting that he take his ONLY son Isaac and place him upon an altar to be sacrificed (Genesis 22:6-14). What needs to be understood is how each individual had submitted themselves to one another. Abraham had submitted his will to God and Isaac had submitted his will to his father Abraham to be sacrificed. Christ had proven to the world that the CROSS on Calvary was a SYMBOL of divine SUBMISSION to the “will” of His Heavenly Father. (2 Corinthians 5:21) 📖 Luke 22:42 📖 “Father, (if) you are WILLING, take this cup (of your wrath) from me; yet NOT my WILL, but YOURS be done.” The PROSPERITY gospel messages that you are accustomed to listening to will never mention anything about Christian denial (Matthew 16:24). Because it is based on a man-centered philosophy that derived from the godless principles of this fallen world. It promotes many unbiblical philosophies regarding self preservation (Proverbs 3:5). The core belief is to make Christians BELIEVE that they are equal with God and that they have a right to pursue their OWN free will. It had been first introduced to the church by using a SUBTLE approach to create an unhealthy Christian image of self love and worldly fulfillment (Romans 1:21) (2 Timothy 3:2). While being totally oblivious to the fact that it is extremely difficult for a self-absorbed person to surrender their OWN “will” into the hands of a righteous God. We must NEVER forget that if Jesus Christ does not come FIRST in our natural lives then He will be NOTHING in our spiritual lives. 📖 Colossians 1:18 📖 And He (is) the head of the body, the CHURCH; He (is) the beginning and the FIRSTBORN from among the dead (to enter into heaven), so that in EVERYTHING He might have the SUPREMACY. ❤️🙏🏾🕊️🕊️🙏🏾❤️
