That pretty fabric is what hooks under the birdcage to catch the seeds.
As you were taking out bag after bag all I could think of was my mother saving things because they were still “good”. The couple were probably raised during the depression and throwing out bags like that would have been borderline sinful to them. I still like the anticipation of what might be discovered with each unbagging 😀
Yep my Grandmothers saved everything!
My parents were also kids during the Depression and it really did form their personalities. Their practice was: Save everything, you never know when you might need it. Empty bags, empty coffee cans, etc. Repair things instead of throwing away and when it's beyond repair, use it for shop rags or cleaning. And even when they got some new clothes or shoes, they didn't want to wear it because they were "saving it for nice", meaning save it for a special occasion or dressy event. Which they never went to! I had to tell my mom, this is as nice as it's gonna get, so just wear it.
Maureen Boyle When we helped Nan move out of her home to a retirement community she had all manner of plastic Cool Whip containers. Keys to who knows what & gallons of bleach. She also still had my moms prom dress from the 50's!
I was going to say the same thing. In the older days bags were not so easy to.come by as they are now. Also there were not as many shopping centres as today. Bags were definitely kept. Its a sign of the era of the house. Very interesting. My Nanas would be the same.
The ticket stub was to go see "My Fair Lady", according to newspapers of that date. (In Allentown)
The little skis are for a child. I had a pair in their original box and sold them at a good price on Ebay.
Here is a little Tip for those of you who are occasional resellers who like to go to garage sales, Thrift stores or go digging thru " curbside treasures ". (In my case it is storage lockers ) to resell a few items... & ask the qstn " What is it?"
There is a Facebook Group that someone suggested I follow when I posted a question on the FB Storage Auction Buyers.
It is called "Reselling Resource Center for EBAY, Etsy, Poshmark... " (Have an item you don't know what it is-Ask a question)
I had a pair of Nike Sneakers I could not find online to figure out some comps. I posted some pictures and asked if anyone knew what they were, description, model type etc... EBAY search didn't work.
Within an hour somebody responded, told me what they were and had a link to this Nike story when they came out in 2012.
I now have a Complete description of something I knew nothing about and have done some research on comps to get a price.
The Nikes are in very good shape and I can probably sell them for $100. And this new Friend who found them for me said to reach out to him again if I need some help. I'm no Nike expert... so will probably be messaging him again.
Thank you!!
SO MUCH FUN!!! I'm so Glad I'm not the only person that Absolutely LOVES GOING THROUGH OTHERS TRASH LOL!!
Those children's skis would look good in a Christmas/Winter display.
That would be so cute
Denise Meredith That's a good idea. By the front door with some seasonal greenery.
I love the Count, and I got it!💝
You made this so fun ok I have a happy heart.
I had a pair of the skis when I was a kid. So YES they are for people. You always make me laugh when you're surprised to find garbage in a garbage bag. Today's phase of the day "I have no idea "
I top your phrase of the day with "things people collect", lol, I laughed at that one.
I think they were like the fun skis I found online from Ktel. You just put them on your shoes like snow shoes to walk around in the snow and ice.
That hangs below a bird cage to catch seeds that fly out
Yes I was thinking the same thing. The fabric with the metal wire that runs around the edge would attach to the bottom of the bird cage. You can see a bird cage print on the fabric, too. Cute
Love The Count reference - excited to see what’s in the bag!
Even though it didn’t seem like it was much it was still so fun. So cool seeing all the bags. Interesting people to say the least. Look forward to the next one!!
Ups N’ Downs was a mall store in the 70’s. (And I forgot aboutHerman’s Sporting Goods till I saw that bag. I miss malls. Sigh.
Cid Santa Herman's was the big game in town for us. Skis 🎿 & outfits, basketball 🏀 sneaks & cool socks, & even those red playground balls for kickball & dodge ball. It was the one store my dad always took us to. Woodbridge Mall.
I think that is a humidifier In the first bag.
I was thinking the same thing.
Yes, I think it is a humidifier too.
These unbaggings are every bit as interesting as strolling thru a musty old antique store or hole in wall junk shop! Thanks for sharing your wonderful mystery grab bags!
Love the handbags. Back in the sixties and seventies they were great summer bags. I have been searching the last couple months for the perfect one. Not easy to find. The ones I have found are hundreds of dollars. I have a woven bag from the early seventies that I just love. Thanks for sharing
Debra Ellison I have one that belonged to my mother. It is in excellent condition. Also have a couple of Collins bags that were popular in the ‘60 & 70’s.
I HAVE A BAG THAT BELONGED TO MY MUM THAT LOOKS LIKE THE WICKER ONES AND HAS A RAISED HORSE HEAD ON SIDE. SO PRETTY I HAD TO KEEP IT.HAVE STARTED TO CARRY IT..I WOULD GET SOME LOOKS AND COMMENTS I AM SURE. RENEE YOU ARE A JEWEL AND I THANK TACO FOR SENDING YOU TO ME.🙏😇
I love those bags. If u can get them clean they can be used. Glad u picked up all those bags to keep you busy. Before lockdown i bought 5 bags of jewellery with intention of opening one per week but curiosity got the better of me and i opened them all in the first week. 😅
Haha, I am tempted to open the bags one after another, but have forced myself to space them out!
The shag carpet pieces would be great for people who do different set-ups with their Barbie dolls. My sister is a vintage Barbie collector. She's very creative, she does different set-ups every few months and also changes things up seasonally. She also incorporates her Barbies, in Christmas garb, to her under-the-Christmas-tree decorations. I can imagine Barbie, Ken and the gang in vintage 1970s outfits on that shag carpet. It would be even better if that carpet was bright orange.
This is so much fun. It's like going back in time of the good old days. Thank you
Thank you for saving & restoring!!
I REALLY LOVE Watching You Open These Bags!! There Just So Much To Learn. Each Person Has A Story To Tell!!! Each Bag Says Something About Them!! Super Fun!!! ❤️
Those skis at 7:00 were a child's ski-skates, they are from the late 50s early 60s. I had a pair when I was a kid
People do collect bags and shopping bags from long closed stores. I have some Fiorucci bags and shopping bags from local now-closed department stores. Bloomingdales shopping bags, with the art work from a fashion illustrator, his name escapes me, are collectible. Lots of those old shopping bags are works of art.
Your Count Von Count (aka "The Count") impersonation needed a little more lightning and thunder, but it wasn't bad. You should keep it handy for when you find your next toilet seat. FOUR!! COUNT THEM!! FOUR TOILET SEATS!! BWAH HA HAAA!!
OMG..😂😂😂😂
I love those wicker bags. So cute and so cool to find originals. I'm loving these mystery bags and still in awe of how you are so restrained lol. Stay safe and thanks for sharing x
I have taken wicker bags and put flowers in them, cause I wanted to keep them longer and I got to enjoy them longer. Enjoying your trash picking bags
Julius Meinl is a Coffee company in austria, headquarter in vienna
I love these videos! Not sure why but they are my favorite! 😉 Thanks for filming them.
Start a trend....vintage toilet seats as bathroom decor....they could make interesting wall display as is or even be used to frame other vintage items.
Now that's strange!
Love the trash bag videos ....always fun .
Did you know that carpet samples are very inexpensive and they are great for putting under your windshield wiper blades in the winter time with the carpet side down to protect the windshield from ice and snow. Also be sure that you take the smaller ice scraper that you have out of the car with you when you leave and place it on the driver's side front tire. That way you can clear some of the ice and snow before you open the door so you don't get so much snow inside.
So much fun!!! Thanks again!
Another bag of trash! I just love it! Thank you Renee and I do hope you find more trash bags for us to watch you. That is a darling bag if cleaned and fixed. I hope you can fix it. It would look good with your vintage clothes. Wow more of them but how cute they are. Thanks for another great video!
Renee I got a kick out of shag tiles I got married in 73 and got red white and blue shag rug. My son was born 74 bicentennial everybody was patriotic brings back good memories you have a good heart keeper of the past thank you from maine
The red ski’s would make a great Christmas display on your porch with lights, ribbon and greenery.
Judi Wills I feel silly 😜 just wrote the exact same thing!
Another great video I remember the store hermans on a lot of tv shows .
This was fun fun fun keep them coming Renee 😄👍💓
Rene...that brown fabric that had the toilet seat in it was to hang on the bottom of a bird cage to catch all the wild seeds and feathers and caca that flew out of a parakeet cage...back in the fifties...yep, that old! They saved everything!!!
I liked hearing the to do list. I was wondering if the fabric was a suitcase liner. Also Levine Fabric is a shop in the garment district of downtown LA. I have been there and picked up fabric for sewing projects a few times. The shop gets remnants of fabric used for costumes in various films or TV shows.
Oh I had a pair of those skis when I was a kid. You could go down hill or just kinda skate on a regular surface! They didn't stay on very well! Oh the memories! TFS Hugs!
Thanks for sharing and it was interesting and enjoyed it.
I have really been enjoying these bags with you. The possibilities as to what the lady kept is endless and makes a person curious as to the reasons. I would like to know about these people and their life!
I love the blue bag. It is totally my thing 😍 The clasp can be sewn back on quite easily I think; Sometimes a cobbler will have the right machine for it. When I buy a second hand bag which is most of the time, I love finding old dated receipts or tickets inside; maybe even a small compact mirror. Really enjoying your channel. Thank you x
I do enjoy the older, vintage bags. I think they were just the right size and more practical.
Renee, my friend and I still do that on trash day! We don't take bags home, but look in by the of the road. Found some cool stuff!!!
Never hurts to look!
It's for the bottom of a budgie cage
My dad always carried a small cooler on vacation. He was a diabetic before they had the pen insulin.
I worked at Herman's in the 80's. I recognized the bag as soon as you picked it up! :)
How did I miss this one? 💗 the Count, he's one of my favorites! ⚡⚡⚡
I love your trash bag revels.
Love the vintage yarn!😊
Bag #7 was a John Wanamaker bag. They’re no longer in business. What a beautiful store they used to have in Philadelphia. It’s a national historical landmark.
I’m fairly certain the skis are for a doll, I have a vintage Walking Kathy Doll and I know they came with skis.
The fabric piece in the wire frame is to go over a bird cage, usually put them on at night.
When I was a kid I had a parakeet and my dad got me record to play that was supposed to teach it to talk, just repeated words and phases over and over. Instructions was to cover the cage and play the record.
Even though I played the record all the time the bird never did learn to talk.
My little sisters first words were “ Pretty Boy” though.
😉
Deadhorse1 that is what I thought it was too. To put on the cage at night to put the birds to sleep.
You always have the best stories :0)
Ups N Downs was a popular chic clothing store in the 1970s. They usually had a hair salon in the back named "The Clip Joint".
This was fun. Thank you.
I enjoy watching you go through the bags. If only you could hear me! Keep that. Throw that away.....Hahaha! I think we pretty much agree on most things.
Hello Renee. How are you doing? You look very nice. These bags are really interesting. With everyone we see a little more of these people. The wife's job was a nurse. They had wonderful trips together. And had pets that they loved. And there love for each other. Can't wait to see more . STAY SAFE . ENJOY YOUR WEEKEND.🌸🌸🌸🌸🌼🌼🌼🌼🍄🍄🍄💌💌💌💌📷📷📷📷💯💯💯
HI Renee- I've so enjoyed these "What's in the Bag" videos. I had a good laugh when you pulled out another toilet seat. :) I think the fabric with the birds on it was a bird cage covering. A friend of mine had a bird as a pet and covered the cage every night at bedtime.
I thought it might be a carrier for a bird to travel in but someone else commented that it is to catch bird seed at the bottom of the cage.
Some of those nicer old bags would be fun for your flea market shoppers to put their purchases in
Carolyngenea I still save good paper shopping bags.
Thank you so much Renee.🫶😊
Those bags brought back memories of when my Mom would take me to a wonderful store in Columbus Ohio named Lazarus...It was like Macy's in NYC. The bags were always part of the experience and you can see with the one that has the Statue of Liberty on it were really a piece of art.
Kc K Oh my gosh! My Mom used to take us to Lazarus in downtown Cols too!
Loved going at Christmas time and seeing all the decorations and their windows with Christmas scenes.
What great memories!
I spent many hours of my childhood shopping with Mom in Lazarus in Roanoke Va. She loved that store and loved to shop.🙏😇😘
My grandma had green shag carpet like that. We used to take it to keep it fluffy. :)
I was 15 days old when those ticket stubs were used.
The skis are adorable!
Bag 7.... paper bag with ladies face... ups n downs....women's fashion boutique....worked for them at a mall in Memphis mid 70's...I think they were out of New York. Jr. Apparel....but really different fashion than all the other stores!!!!
that rectangle thing with bird cages on it hung from bottom of a cage to catch seedson a hanging bird cage
I thought it might be a carrier for a bird. Thanks for the info.🐦🦜
I thought it was the right shape for an awning on a stroller.
Yes it is - had one under our bird cage for years!
The cloth thing with wire around it, at about 8:15, goes under a bird cage to catch the bird seed so it would not get on the floor. My aunt had one on her bird cage. It had hooks at the corners.
Rene' , Shamokin, Pa is about 90 or so miles North West, from me..Philadelphia.....in Northcumberland County about a 2 and 1/2 hour ride.....I can get to NJ, NY , and Delaware quicker than some parts of Pennsylvania.....Another great video....I too love ephemera......enjoy
Kathleen Leonard That's what I've been saying since moving here 25 years ago! PEnnDoT is terrible. Ya can't git there from here!
This is interesting, thanks for bringing us along. It is very odd so many toilet seats are packed together with shopping bags.
I love these videos!
Rene, the purses are great for pansies, petunias, whatever flower you want, for porch or patio. Sell at flea.
I laughed when you said, "My favourite thing!"
Immediately thought of Maria. But the lyric went, "Ephemera are a few of my favourite things"
Interesting bit of trivia.
I read of a girl back in the early 2000s who was a serious collector of vintage style. Before vintage became mainstream she would raid any and every thrift or goodwill for the well-made and chic clothing.
She co-ordinated with modern pieces for a particularly unique (and elegant) look that constantly drew attention.
Constant enquiries about her sources flipped a switch, that there was a demand. Over five or so years she created a small but decent online re-selling (as we call it today) market. In the end, when prices started to rise, and competition increased, she sold her enterprise. For $1m.
I think she was East Coast, too.
All because she enjoyed the hunt, and the rewards of careful searching for what she loved.
It's a pleasant thought, that you're preserving that ethos through other means. And it's a trip to re-live my "pack-rat" habits vicariously through your channel!
So much fun!
There was some serious potty training going on with that family. Cloth diapers were a nightmare to deal with. Shagadellic was a word in the 70s.
Shagadellic 😆😅😂🤣😭
Pass the doobie man.
Shagadelic started with Austin Powers spoofing the 70's not actually from the 70's! (Meyers combined shag carpet and psychedelic!)
Kasey Thomas Well, except the “shag” part is an English word for sex, not a reference to carpet.
@@kaseythomas9646 I had shag pile carpet in the seventies. It is a thing.😀
I had my hair cut in a SHAG in the 70s...😊 Also had SHAG CARPETING..& I just bought a new SHAG area rug last summer.😂
The swan head toilet seat may have been an insert for potty training for a boy and while seated they would pee into the neck of the swan.
The sweet notes would be perfect if Found Magazine still exists. They published fun notes like you found! Your channel is awesome! ❤❤❤
My favorite was that dated list on that blue piece of paper. A day in the life from another time.
It was a sweet little memory of the family, saved after all of these years.
Another adventure. Thanks
The bag with The Statue of Liberty on it is pretty cool ! 🗽🗽
Rene the thing with the birds .it hangs from the bottom of the Cage to catch all the seeds that fall out. My wife and I had that them on a Birds
Love those bags x
Love these trash bag vids!
The skies were a children's toy -- one of my sisters had a pair. They were for cross country sking -- or rather playing at cross country skiing
Smart to look up the bags
Sprinkle a little baby powder in each glove makes it easy to put them on
!
Renee,
It's interesting seeing the variety of stores she(it seems a she) went to for shopping.
Not only do you discover their financial status(possibly) but you can determine the timeline, especially those places now out of business.
I think that investigators scour trash and discover more about us than we may want them to know.
I'm not paranoid but I'm going out and buying a giant trash paper shredder even though I've nothing to hide!
If only more people could find the joy of discovery inherent in every day things.
Cheers,
Rik Spector

I believe I state this in a future video, while I would love to come across WWII militaria (as the man of the home served during the war), I am glad to not find any items like that in the trash. I'm hopeful that the family has kept those items as well as family photographs... They can continue to throw out their vintage items though, I am happy to dig through the bags :0)
The material was a seed catcher for a bird cage. It hung on the bottom of a cage to catch seeds. Etc the bird threw out.
It's not unusual at all for older people to save every bag that they had. I used to sell many of the ones from local stores and from well known stores. Some sold for quite a bit. The run of the mill ones I used to put stuff in when I sold at the flea market. Everyone loved the vintage bags. Several of my buyers asked if these items would be put in the vintage bags. They loved them!! And the "Queen" of toilet seats finds yet another one!!! Love your videos!!!
3 toilet seats & counting! I did enjoy looking at the bags, some of them had pretty neat colors and images!
@@PaperandMoose I love your excitement and joy of what you discover in each and every box or bag that you open. Renee, You give us all enlightenment and bring sunshine back in our lives! THANKS for SHARING !!!
take the green fabric to the flea market(if it's still usable), people are upholstering mid century furniture, and vintage fabric may sell for that. and yes those are skis... I had a later version... used them for small hills in my neighborhood.
My mom used to carry those kind of purses very trendy in the 70s
That’s gold fabric with the wire frame is for a bird cage to catch the seeds. Not would attach to a hanging bird cage
🤔 keep checking. I aways think when people stop and pickup what's laying out, why don't they lift the lid on the can and just look ☺
Striped golf ball are usually range balls from the golf course that you practice with...
I remember those straw purses from the 1960’s. I don’t think I liked them well enough to want to own one.
The tickets were the best find Renee. Julius Meinl is a shoe maker (trekking)
Seed catcher for a bird cage. The sets came with a cage cover as well
Those people must have loved to travel & shop!! Oh, & change their toilet seat lol
I was an avid garage sale, auction, hunter. Our attic is still full! But I'm older now and don't go anymore so watching these videos is totally fun for me!
If I lived closer your attic would be my dream come true
Omg I used to live in Shamokin it is about 20 minutes passed Knoebels
🤔The tempting trash bag. 👍🏽
Those are walking skis lol.😆 when your walking in the village streets with your polls ,and skis its EASYER to walk.lol.
That’s a ladies side table for sitting beside your chair.
Yes, I bet it would look nice once cleaned up!
I thought it could be a dehumidifier but they need to open for cleaning and to replace filters etc.
