  • I've always liked the Guillow's rubber powered plane kits so I'm building the Nieuport 11 WW1 French fighter for conversion to four-channel radio control, this is the story so far. If you would like to be notified when I upload another video hit the subscribe button and don't forget to 'like' as well.
    If you have any ideas to include in the build please add your comments, I'm always pleased to read them.

    I have purchased the neiuport today after spending the last few days looking for something to build. I have a nearly completed mosquito from Bryan Taylor plans in the shed but wanted something smaller to build indoors in the evening. So pleased that you have inspired me to make this model.

      Bit of a change if pace there Kev! Give the top wing some dihedral, the plan suggests the right amount. Great to build though.

    my dad built one of the old VK models Nieuport 17 models. I flew it, probably less than a dozen flights, and only once got it to stay up right. It would flop over on it's nose, then come to rest on the upper wing, engine running, never touching the prop, and I'd have to go over and pick it up and set it back down on it's wheels.

    Hi cliff, I was curios as to what diameter wire you used for control rods? Thanks. When is your next guillows build and what in your opinion is the best stick/tissue manufacturer? Sorry for all the questions!,

    • @CliffHarveyRCPlanes
      @CliffHarveyRCPlanes  2 роки тому

      Hi RM, the control rods I'll link to at the end, my next stick and tissue is likely to be KeilKraft although I do have three Guillow's kits on the shelf. Best manufacturer... I guess they're all pretty good now with the advent of laser cutting, have a look at this video for pushrod making for the Nieuport ua-cam.com/video/cqVrcF7jt9k/v-deo.html, 👍

      Sorry, I just deleted my answer and started again because I thought you were asking about the Tiger Moth, so the Guillows Nieuport 11 is 5/8th as per plan under each tip, thanks for subscribing. I'm still waiting to maiden mine alas, feel free to ask any questions along the way. Are you building yours as static or a flyer? I ask because I think in hindsight I would have dropped the ailerons for simplicity and gone for a little dihedral on the top wing and obviously a little more again on the bottom wing.

    Great video ..and u know that I know how long a process and how much patience is required ..
    Love the push ..pull ail .. got me thinking .. will be waiting and watching ..how are u covering?

    • @CliffHarveyRCPlanes
      @CliffHarveyRCPlanes  4 роки тому

      The push-pull is pretty old school stuff now but I only wanted to use one servo, covering probably iron-on light weight but tissue is so much easier, we'll have to see.

    Thank you for your videos with the Newport 11 conversion. I have an old PT-17 kit I've been working on and your work sure has given me a lot of great ideas.
    I noticed that the side of fuselage formers have been sanded inward. Was that part of the plans or was that something that you did to lighten the weight?

    • @CliffHarveyRCPlanes
      @CliffHarveyRCPlanes  4 роки тому +1

      Hi William, the PT17 is a very pretty plane, it should be a good flyer rc, biplanes are a bit more work of course but they all take many hours as we know. To answer your question it's an idea I picked up on the Guillows Facebook Page, yes it does lighten the structure slightly (I did remove a lot of wood out of the inside of the formers and the heavy main stringers though). It isn't on the plan either ... my reason was simply because the original aircraft didn't have vertical formers showing through the covering. It was a quick process as well using the Dremel fitted with the cylindrical sanding fitting.
