  • A big thanks to the ( Art Hand ) Sean and Joe for all the work they put in all week and Gráinne Toomey.
Wild Atlantic Way Sand Art, Ballybunion is the first of its kind in Ireland. Ballybunion, with it's amazing beaches with long stretches of sand and high cliffs for viewing makes it the perfect place to hold such an event.
From Monday to the ultimate event on Saturday, sand artists from around the country worked really hard to showcase their amazing talents. Sean Corcoran (The Art Hand) and Joe Lonergan came from the beautiful Copper coast of Waterford, Sara Kubiak & Matthew Hart came from the West Cork Sand Circlers, Helena McMahon and her family from Foynes, Limerick and Michael Pixie O' Gorman, Siobhan Gleeson, Gráinne Toomey, Michaela Layden,Jane Byrne and Paul O'Connor from North Kerry.
Amazing art was etched through the sand with various tools like rakes, curtain poles and compasses to shade in the fantastic unique designs.
Visitors and children were curious and enjoyed watching and participating in the work.
On Friday 18th, Sean, Joe, Matt, Sara and Michael invited the children from Ballybunion Scoil Iosagain to participate in a workshop. All 145 of them joined in and made fantastic designs with the artists. It might even be a world recorded of people working on one drawing at the same time. They loved being outside, using all their energies and focus on such an event and brought lots of family down to Cliff Rd and the Castle Green to look at what they made before the tide washed it away.
We would like to thank Kerry County Council Creative Communities Grant Scheme for their invaluable support and help
This was the 1st year of the event and it was such a success, that there are big plans for the future to make it an international event, calling on sand artists from around the world to come to beautiful Ballybunion by the Sea to showcase their art and collaborate with other like minded artists in 2019.
