could be engine brake, when u downshift you lose rpm more and the engine slows down which would make the bike slow down, but if he was actually braking then prob rear brake, not that difficult to shift while braking
It’s just a bit of practice, in all honesty. You can use your front brake while rev-matching/downshifting or rear brake and engine braking would happen in both scenarios whether I’m using my brake or not :)) Practice, time if your ally. If you want to try and use your front brake while downshifting, I think I use my first two fingers leant forward on the brake and as I’m applying pressure and twist the throttle to rev-match, and then shift down. If that makes sense, hope that helps lol :))
