46:38 Mike, the Georgia joke is about language and misunderstanding. The same thing applies to your conversations with your father. You're speaking the same language, but sometimes can't understand each other. That's how it fits into the show.
That's not what he said though.. He said "you're not going to find the author, in the book". Which, from Pete is weird because he was a Born Again Christian, and the author IS in THAT book. He's all over that book. God is basically a narcissist. Which explains so much about the current state of affairs.
I thought the same, hit me in my thinking spot... Of course until you think about it and realize it's the brain in a vat thought experiment... It isn't falsifiable... We all could be brains in jars... But the god is everything is the same as saying God is nothing. But yeah, super evocative and poetic way of putting it... Love Pete and how his brain works.
@@thematturlookingfor I wasn't commenting on what he believes now, but his Christian past. Not an indictment, just an observation. I like Pete. I used to be a christian too. These days I consider myself an Agnostic Christian. aka someone that still prays, but wouldn't really want to be identified as religious.
I align more with Mike’s editing philosophy. I do think that so much of what makes art great is what we decide to leave out. It’s what makes “Working it out” feel like a show. It’s purposeful. When done right, editing is mostly invisible, it just helps you get swept up on the storytelling. It’s more of a sculptor’s approach I suppose, where it’s what material you remove that makes the piece.
Great stuff! I'd pay to see this once a week. I'm 100% Stilts & Slomo love each other like Broseph's from another Joseph but, sometimes when they're busting each other's chops, I'll feel a touch of sadness for the nanosecond it takes the other to laugh. But, just like rubbing alcohol, that burn means it's working🤣
The Georgia hat joke = you and your dad trying to understand each other through sports & academics. You never quite learned his language, but do you still know each other? How does that link to knowing him as Brooklyn/gi bill Dr in Texas? You're not the same and you speak a different language, but do you still know each other? Are you teaching your daughter your language? Are you letting her know you? - love the show!
27:39 as someone with a father that had a lot of addictions and demons (may he rest in peace) hearing these well adjusted individuals discuss their fathers feels like I’m watching a podcast by aliens
I went to the doctor the other day and she made it a point to correct me and say she was a nurse practitioner, not a doctor. But it doesn’t really roll off the tongue like doctor does. I wonder if in the old west the frontier nurse practitioners ever corrected people when they called them doc?
Mike, do you ever feel like your dad communicating is like a woman from Georgia saying something? Sometimes my dad’s responses or questions to me are so foreign but still in English I feel like I have to say “Hat?!” That may be the connection…
Mike I would love to see you do an episode with Andrew Santino! His new special touches on a lot of the themes from thank god for jokes that would be fun to hear you both discuss.
Both these guys look like they were created by a dr Frankenstein type characters, but all he had to use to put together the bodies was different types of bread.
Pete. Please JESUS (intended,) stop talking about religion. It's an argument, I'm tired of that argument. please. The story about the woman at the gas station is about Disconnection. Any other jokes about disconnection?
That Dewey decimal bit was spot on
I almost spilled my coffee with the Dewey Decimal bit. Perfect!

Every time they do each others podcast I could watch 5 hours of it. The buddy cop movie we didn't know we needed. GOOD Cop DRY Cop: Sweet Dreams

My thoughts exactly!
I would legit watch Birbiglia tell me about a library for an hour.
Two of my favorite people to watch/listen to!
These guys are 100% the best "podcast bros" out there
Man these 2 just make me so happy. I love this friendship so much. It's just perfect
Cut to Marc Maron’s head exploding 😂
2 of my favorites. Please make this a regular thing.😅
OMG, Pete's impression of Mike killed me!
As an atheist, the "you can't find the author when you're in the book" is the best argument for religion I've ever heard.
That's not what he said though..
He said "you're not going to find the author, in the book".

@@ajplays-gamesandmusic4568yo you have a fundamental misunderstanding of what Pete believes

Welcome to the pilot episode of You Made it Sting.
a.k.a. Burning it out.
Agreed and I never think that about Pete Holmes.
"Every side has two stories" is a very cool line.
"I guess we will never understand each other" is a madness of a punchline. I love it.
Just awesome!
Gotta say. That’s a solid birbiglia impression.
Thank you both. 👌🏼

As someone who grew up in Shrewsbury, I love hearing about St. Mary's and the town in general. Y'all are great!
love the bromistry between these two😂
"Dip dip dip dip dip the hat", Fully formed perfect bit, hilarious.
Pete wondering why he wasn’t invited to Mulaney’s Netflix show, “Everybody’s in L.A.” John lives in N.Y. after all.
Yeah I wonder what the deal is with that

I do wish I had conversations go this well.
“Do you get residuals everytime there’s a tumbleweed in a western” -I think about this burn at least once a day
This roast was top tier
MIKE! Can you please have Hank Green on the pod? He is about to do a comedy special about how he pissed out all his cancer 😂😂😂
Mike really brings the unhinged energy out of Pete
I've never clicked on a video faster
Their friendship 💞

When Pete did his modern parenting bit and said he did Mike, it was really Brian Regan
That justice component is something huge.
Also....
Pete has never played a priest in a movie or TV show?!
He played one in an episode of Mulaney!
Pete looks like a PacSun mannequin that someone spilled Ka'Chava on
love ya Pete, please only read this on a good day 🙏
You Working Made It Weird Out
Coney Island mascot is crazy

anybody have the timestamp for when they talk about John Mulaney?
The "more country than they are" bit is practically New Seinfeld
These two again!? 😂

Not only is the author in this book, He IS the book. John 1.
Does the glass sandwich come with mayo? Asking for a friend..

Yay
How much money do i need to pay for a weekly pod just with these two
❤

I thought these two men were the same man until just now
double down on the bird parallel.
Until this moment I thought these were the same person
Its embarrassing how both these men looked before they got money
41:30 “you’re not going to find Author in a book” isn’t that what the bible is trying to do? It’s a book about the Author of the universe.
How long has Pete Holmes attempted to be "edgy?"
Pete again????
Pete. characters in a book arnt aware they are in a book. we are aware. please calm down. thats not as good of a comparison as you think it is.
