Love LOVE this group and can’t understand why they haven’t broken into this side of the pond, but I noticed all their “live” performances (of this song in particular) are identical and it seems they lip synch. Why? She’s an amazing singer. Can anyone point me to a concert video where it’s obvious it’s an actual live performance? Do they only use lip synch when performing for concerts like this but in their own concerts they sing live? Would love to hear some variability on their songs.

I completely agree with you. I would love to watch a natural performance of the group. I knew Ingrid Helene singing with A-ha and she is a great live singer.

Flávio Henriques I watched Ingrid singing with a-ha and yes, she’s amazing. I’ve seen other live, in-studio videos of her singing and her voice is way better than most of the singers that have made it big in North America. I would just LOVE to her the band do a live rendition of their bigger hits on the big stage. Every on-stage version I’ve heard of “Golden Ticket” and “Love, Where do you Live?” is the EXACT same. Maybe what I’ve heard are just concerts they’ve done for other events, like The Nobel Peace Prize, etc, so for those, why strain her voice, right? Hopefully for their own concerts they sing live. Either way, this group is fantastic and Ingrid has some crazy-amazing pipes! They really should tour over this side of the pond...I think they’d blow it up!! :)

I am pretty sure the Nobel Peace Price concert they did was live ( ua-cam.com/video/1v40QJd2PJ0/v-deo.html ) and it sounds amazing!
I love the african vibe of the harmony part of this song sooo much, I keep rewinding that part over and over!

Now, I've seen these guys live, and I've looked up a lot of their live performances. This isn't lip-synced. This is actually one of the 'worse' performances I've seen. Now, this song in particular uses a lot of harmonic voices, and a lot of those voices are synthetic, even. I imagine the girl on the synths (Marte) does a lot of the harmonics, and has her voice routed through a vocoder. It's a technical mess of which voice is synthetically harmonized at which point, and there's a good four-five voices at times it seems. Two organic, and the rest vocoder. The reason I call this a lesser live version is because Ingrid is a bit late on some phrases during the verse. You can even hear things like popping with the microphone on the phrase "I need proper high* on the p sounds there (0:40). Now, (I believe it is) Kristoffer is also an amazing harmonizer. You can hear it at this performance:
      ua-cam.com/video/taEcgisSiNs/v-deo.html
And if you know Tiny Desk Concert, you know there's no processing. You can hear on the chorus on The Man On The Ferry that it's a near divine vocal performance from the both of them. You can also hear the crazy amazing harmonizing he adds to that song. That's a huge part of Golden Ticket live. All these three have degrees in jazz, and are extremely talented. Golden Ticket is an ambitious project to do live, if they didn't record the whole thing as a band to begin with. I can't flesh out how all parts are done live, but it is 90-100% all just live performance. If it was recorded as a band, it would even better describe how they can move this to a live setting with ease, but it's clear that a lot of work has gone into the way these guys perform live. You can tell that synths and the likes are also done live, due to things like this performance:
      ua-cam.com/video/kMfobTboNe4/v-deo.html
There's just one synth layer in the intro, but it's done in a way that's not that different.
Conclusion: No lip sync, but the chorus is so many layers of interconnected voices, and it's aided by both the vocoder and the amount of voices. It's a crazy feat to perform so consistently live, but it's the feat of great performances and not cheating.
