  • Ikari loader begins at 1:03 and title music at 4:46. Original release was made for c64 in 1986 by Data East. This is the remake by Elite. Elite loader wasn't actually used in this game, but it might as well been added because the loading takes so long. Elite & Ikari loaders by Mark Cooksey (1985 & 1988), title / ingame music by Jason C. Brooke (1988).
Check out my longplay video if you like, it was done without savestates.

One of my favourite C-64 tunes.

One of the few C64 games i still have. I played this a few years ago when i showed my oldest kid my childhood games.
My father also liked this game a lot and probably played it even more than me, this and boulder dash was his favourites.
For some reason my game often freezes as 5:01 for some reason but not always.

    You got me there ;)
I still remember when my Christmas was ruined when my cousin received the floppy drive and I got some useless junk. When I finally got the floppy drive it was almost obsolete because amiga was already out there. It wasn't a major disaster because I had a good collection of games for cassettes, but I couldn't play all the games that were out there because some were only available for discs.

cool video! didnt know there were multiple versions until i saw the other version and didnt remember the music at all. This TOTALLY explains why the cheat codes I had from C64 Magazine didn't work!

Thanks a lot for mentioning about this, very interesting to hear the original! I had no idea the track was a cover. I'm quite surprised it had to be borrowed since the melody is so simple (though catchy).
Despite this, it's a good example how much air pop songs usually contain since Cooksey was able to reduce a three and a half minute track into a one minute and even added some new notes.

Thanks for pointing this out. I never tried the Data East version myself. I corrected re-release" to "remake" in the description.

The C64 version pwns all other versions... xcept for the loading time that is.. jeesh, remember how I sat waiting for the game to start, felt like it took forever... Then when you were just about to give up, you heard the intro song and saw the airplane-intro... man, that was awsome... Worst of all was when you'd been sitting there for five minutes waiting for it to start and the loading failed...

Indeed the arcade and amiga versions both had some sort of icons representing the items. Hard to guess what they do, just have to collect and try.

I have played both the amiga & c64 versions, but not very recently. I think I completed this game on c64, but I'm not sure. This game as many others co-op games was obviously most fun to play with a friend, but nowadays in my current location, I'm having trouble to find people who would be interested in playing. If nobody else is posting a decent gameplay on either of these two platforms in a few months, I might consider trying to play it through myself.

The first song is a very good version of "Living on video" by "Trans-X".
I think it was a canadian band, the song must be from 1983 or '84... Look for the song here on UA-cam and read more on Wikipedia.

Yeah, I agree... If a game would take five minutes to load today I'd probably think the game crashed and hit ctrl-alt-del...
Well, I mostly used the disks, our casette deck broke down after a while... And besides, we traded games with our friends, always on disks...

People nowadays are also too impatient.
I can't remember ever having problems loading games on either the old (grey) or new (white) model of c64, unless the games were permanently broken. Maybe I just had better cassette decks ;)

I quite liked Mark Cooksey's C64 music, it was quirky and original. Not as epic as someone like Martin Galway, but plenty of character in it.

john twiddy coded the UK one.. the guy who worked on last ninja and also the expert cart... and also cyberload.. as featured here.. most US ports of games were bad.. except things like afterburner where the US one was FAR better. This is the UK loader.. I remember the music
