This is a nice sounding story but a lie. Mac switched in 83, which was about the time many pros were making the transition. He wasn’t particularly late. As he himself says: he picked up one of Patrick mcenroe’s Dunlop’s and IMMEDIATELY took to it, finding more pop and no lack of feel. He never looked back and started playing successfully with him in his very next tournaments.
