I can see a lot of parents buying this car for their kids after high school graduation. It looks decently nice, it’s modern, and it’s small yet practical. AND most importantly, affordable.
Lmao my 2000 Maxima outshines this thing in terms of power, handling, space, and build quality. The transmission isn’t going to blow up after 50k miles.
The Orr Nissan here are selling out of these little trucks and the ones I've seen really aren't small. They are very short, probably uncomfortably short for some people since it's styled as a small compact trick almost, but it's not small at all.
I just got this car 11/23 and i like it. I'm not planning on racing around town with it or anything. It feels nice to me and I've ridden in everything from a Ford truck to Chrysler to Jeep.
People, this is a daily commuter car. Not a sports car. Be mad when the Miata looks like this and has a CVT. It is designed for a specific crowd of people. And this if is not your car, no need to bash it. Go look else where. This is Not the only car in the world you have to buy.
Would be an excellent option for people on a tight budget but the lack of AWD is pretty much a deal killer for me. I could get an Impreza at the same price point.
You know, I think the Civic isn't that bad. It's not for me, but it's interesting. I saw the new Accord the other day, thought it was a Civic. Taking one design and stretching it out doesn't always work. And I feel that's a great example of it.
Is there any car reviewer out there that understands that car models exist because people have different needs and budgets? Not everybody cares about how many seconds a car takes to go from 0 to 60 miles per hour. These reviewers always use a condescending tone to describe all cars that are not luxury and super powerful, always referring to other cars they have driven before. If you want soft plastic, more horse power and more features, then buy another model if you can afford it. That's why companies offer different models.
It is, but you'd be surprised (or maybe you wouldn't be) at how many people want Nissan Rogues because "Japanese" cars are so much more reliable.......
People complain about everything. They want cheap cars, but wants features and techs of high end cars. More HP, disc front rear, Manual, soft touch here there, hi res screen/cam, etc etc. Then they want High Salary, benefits, insurance, etc etc. I work in a car company and it's not easy! It's not like we can just add this add that do this do that and sell it at this cheap bargain price with 999yrs warranty high quality parts for cheap! How do you guys think I can live with that???
Well said. I 100% agree. Some people have no sense of reality. When you are the one paying the bills and not living at home with mommy and daddy, reality hits you really hard and you appreciate everything with realistic expectations.
Here in Mexico, the kicks made a huge deal. A test by some guys who try cars and make reviews, revealed that the lower trims lack stability control and that makes it almost flip in the moose test at only 40 mph!!!
at 1:16 I remember talking with an official at NYIAS this year and he said this " The kicks is somewhat replacing the juke but most of it is the rogue sport"
Couple mistakes with your review...1 it does have led drl's although I will say they're pretty small and 2 it does have a "sport mode" there's a button on the shifter but it's not labeled which is odd. I work for a nissan dealer so I get a lot of time with these cars lol
If I was in the crossover market, I would pick a Honda HRV or a Mazda CX3 mainly because of the build quality plus the addition of LED DRLs. I do wish that both vehicles will get a little more power in the near future. Great review as always!
SUV = Sport Utility Vehicle. I think all these cars fit that bill. Just because SUV's were originally trucks without a bed, doesn't mean that's the defining feature of an SUV.
UNDERSCORE_ I was discussing this with my wife since she brought up this was a “replacement” juke. Interesting and quirky doesn’t equal good -specially with a polarizing exterior. It may catch your attention, sure, but as a company it all come to sales. The HR-V has sold almost 100k units in 2017 compared to the Juke’s 10k. This is a handsome, tiny car, and it will do far better than the Juke. What I would’ve appreciated would be a great car on the outside, and bit “quirky” on the inside to give it personality.
Most comfortable seats I have ever sat on in a car when I rented the Kicks in Brazil for 2 months. Very comfortable suspension even on bumpy São Paulo roads or multi-hour road trips. But Sofyan is right, when pulling onto the expressway to reach the speed limit of 110 kph (67 mph) it took a while. Overall a very pleasant city SUV.
This car packs a lot of features at a great price point and it looks pretty good. What people don't understand, or want to understand is that cars in the segment have the majority of their budget spent features such as styling, enhanced safety features, enhanced infotainment and more rather than a big powerful engine. I am pretty impressive with what Nissan did here especially at the starting point of this car and I live in Southern CA where the majority of my paycheck goes to just having a place to stay. It is nice to be able to get a brand new vehicle with a warranty and all these features and still have some money left over for food and housing. For other people who live in areas where the AVERAGE price of a house is not half a MILLION dollars, this is not so much an issue. With all that said, I still love my 2019 two-tone Toyota C-HR and will be adding some Toyota TDR parts to further enhance the performance. I also have that legendary Toyota quality. As the old saying goes, more competition makes it better for the consumer.
Nice review. For people that are very price sensitive this car delivers on being a very inexpensive crossover. And they did a decent job hiding the cost cutting (most people would never notice drum brakes)

Shame about the power downgrade, but at least the styling isn't *as* polarizing as the Juke... BTW, congrats on the engagement!!! I wish you two many happy years together!!! :)
Great review! Last spring I traded in my 2013 Cube and was considering the Rogue Sport, Kicks, or a Sentra. Seeing this vehicle and the Rogue Sport, i'm very happy with my decision to get a Sentra. The 2017 Sentra is very refined and an overall great car for the segment. I wish Nissan offered a turbo option for the kicks or Rogue Sport.
I saw a Nissan Kicks in person on my way to church yesterday morning and it looks decent in person. Granted, the Nissan Kicks I saw was black with orange accents; unlike the blue Nissan Kicks with the white roof that Sofyan is driving.
Sofyan, you should start describing how knobs and buttons feel like. One thing I never buy is the car with cheap switchgear because this is something that will bother me every day
I've been reading all the comments guys the nissan kicks may not have AWD or high horse power or is fast but for a subcompact crossover this thing is not bad it had a good storage good room SO STOP COMPLAINING AND DEAL WITH IT! Have a good day😄 also if you want a better car get the qashqai (rogue sport for USA) but the infotainment is HORRIBLE have a nice rest of your life 😆
I drove this at the launch event. Everyone loved it, but I just hated how slow it was and how disconnected the steering felt. I'm driving the Toyota CH-R this week, and it feels much higher quality.
Sofyan Bey I like how you give criticism yet also highlight the pros of the vehicle 😎 As always excellent review from Redline and yes this vehicle will sell like hotcakes 👍
I don't get it either. Who want tech that is obsolete in 3 years? With Car Play and Android Auto, navigation upgrades with new updates and/or new phone.
Stellar review, Sofyan! The pricing of the Kicks makes it a very enticing entry in the Sub-Compact Utility Vehicle segment. Also, I surprisingly really like the bold and ultra-customizable exterior styling. Hopefully Nissan will introduce a more powerful engine with slightly more refined driving dynamics in the near future. Nevertheless, I can't wait to review one of these Nissan Kicks. Keep up the great work, Redline!
Why does people have such a bug up there ass about turbos? You goddamn people need to realize that it is just something else to go wrong and it puts more stress on the engine internals which shortens the engines life. There are a lot of peopl out there that do not want a turbo but young people are making it harder and harder to find a vehicle without a turbo. Pisses me off.

Seems like a fair review to me. I'm DD shopping so the performance isn't high on my list of demands, but the kicks offers alot of everyday features that the Honda and Toyota counterparts will miss at the same price. Thanks for the review!
I think it was a pretty fair review. I love the exterior. The interior is just not Germanic enough for my tastes. The twist beam rear suspension is not good for people like me who like a smooth ride. Taking it off road would probably be uncomfortable.

Norm T I like the Kicks design but I think they missed the mark slightly. I'm sure it will still sell well due to the price. I mean a fully loaded Kicks is about $23K which is not bad. But they could of put 137HP at the very least which would fall in line with the other competition. But rear drum brakes these days are just ridiculous especially on a CUV. I mean how much does it cost a manufacturer to put rear wheel disc brakes? Maybe $850? Most would pay a little extra for that.
not sure why you keep comparing this to the Juke. Juke is AWD, and Turbo. Nissan still makes the Juke. This is an entirely new car for Nissan, and should be treated as such.
that is beautiful and i can see that selling a lot at starting price of $1800, if toyota or honda will not release something that will compete with that.....or i dont mind paying more for a chr if it will come with the more powerful and more efficient new camry engine
In response to the Nissan Kicks; Toyota released the CH-R and Honda released the HR-V. Of course both the Toyota CH-R and the Honda HR-V have more edgy and aggressive exterior styling compared to the rather docile and unassuming exterior styling of the Nissan Kicks.

I get that the price point is one of the lowest in the market, but rear drum brakes in a CUV? Come on Nissan!

We said the dude
Juke, Kicks... perfect names for cars that look like sneakers
I believe there is a sport mode. It's the little button on the back of the gear shifter... I think... ...Nice review tho...
That intro pan though.
Great Review. I am not sure why Nissan didn't keep that 1.6T. That could have given this a leg up or at least made it competitive with the Kona.
Question, someone, anyone. WTF is adaptive cruise control?
For balance sakes, put the damn speaker on the p/s already, my God🤨
that is beautiful and i can see that selling a lot at starting price of $1800, if toyota or honda will not release something that will compete with that.....or i dont mind paying more for a chr if it will come with the more powerful and more efficient new camry engine
