Saw this band at UIL and I had to write down their band name and show because I wanted to see this again 😂 y’all did awesome! - Brazoswood band student
Why on earth would you do a patriotic show amid the chaos of the Trump administration? Liberty and justice? For whom? For Trump and his cabinet, many of whom have served jail time? This is an example of a marching band that is completely disconnected from artistic sensibilities, and disconnected from the current social condition. What are they teaching the kids at this high school about art and thematic arguments? This is not CLEP-level learning in the arts. One of the basic lessons in the humanities is that art has purpose, meaning and a high stakes point of view. This has none.
With all disrespect, shut the fuck up. If you actually paid attention to the show you’d notice that it literally highlights those things you’re bitching about. The end of the first act physically shows you the divisiveness of the nation with the shape of the US swaying in opposite directions and the music taking on dissonant chords. This isn’t a show mindlessly glorifying America in the way you’re describing. It’s a show stating what America should be; a country for all and not just those that are white, privileged, and/or have wealth (the entire 2nd act makes that obvious btw). The 3rd act is supposed to be a sign of optimism that while things aren’t great at the moment, that it is okay to work towards and have hope for a better future. The only person disconnected is you so please think carefully before you leave such a hateful, condescending, and idiotic comment on something people worked hard on. You’re over here trying to sound like some big brain intellectual about what art is and isn’t (like if you had any authority over that) while ironically missing the ENTIRE point of the show. Embarrassing lmao.
Also here’s another thing for your sardine brain to consider. The melody of WE SHALL OVERCOME (a civil rights anthem of the 1950-70s) was one of the main melodies in the show. Now tell me. What type of “pATriOtiC sHoW oF tHe TrUmP eRa” (as you described it) would feature a civil rights anthem that brings to the forefront the oppression African Americans and other minorities have faced throughout the history of this nation. Jesus Christ man.
@@hattricks4dayz291 Not buying it. We Shall Overcome is simply not enough. Notice the Trump-brined brainwashed anti-vaxers defending this show? They didn't even know it was leaning toward open-mindedness and raising consciousness about the broken Trump era of lawlessness and lies. You know why? This show tiptoed on the middle line. Subtle hints don't help anyone. Make a bold statement. Instead, this show taught kids to tiptoe around taking a stand, and that's not CLEP-level learning in the arts.
@@hattricks4dayz291 Also, one element is not enough to establish a legitimate theme. So the question becomes, what else bolstered We Shall Overcome? What other elements supported this alleged POV about civil right? Not enough to draw a through-line. And you know it.
