Tommy moved to New York City to pursue acting after graduating from Harvard University. After only 10 days in the city, and with no lessons, he was cast in his first Broadway play. From there, he was given his first feature film role in 1970's Love Story... a film that he had inadvertently inspired during his Harvard days. Over the decades, Tommy has appeared in many films, including 1997's Men in Black and 2007's No Country for Old Men.
He has been nominated for four Academy Awards, winning once in 1993 for his supporting role in The Fugitive. In the 2000s, the actor took an interest in directing. Today, he has three acclaimed directorial efforts under his belt. Through it all, the man has garnered plenty of respect, as well as a reputation for being slightly eccentric. Tommy Lee Jones is legendary and evokes absolute excellence in any role he has embarked on.His best, in my opinion, was his portrayal of Ty Cobb, a remarkable example of being a master in his craft.Bravo
Hello I see happiness all around you, can I please share from it?
I don’t blame Tommy Lee Jones for being private about his life. What’s wrong with that?
Private life, but give me the money. Biggest asshole in Hollywood. Bigger than Richard Chamberlin if you can believe that.
Tommy Lee jones: Give me my private life, but attend my rally's for libnuts, and watch my movies. And yes, overlook my rudeness at the LaFonda Restaurant, or at the race tract, or when I shoot a deer and can't find it. I will call the local dog trackers. Once they find the deer, I will tell them "Get the hell off my ranch and never come back"! Just a few of rumors going around San Antonio.
He’s a complete d-bag, on every level. Sadly, personal experience.🤮🤮
@@thomaswatkins6652 But, are they just rumors? That can kill a person's reputation unless you know the facts. I don't like hearsay.
@@keetonplace are you serious mate, you can see that tommy lee Jones is a antisocial prick just from his interviews and his behavior towards co-workers, he's a Harvard snob who thinks he's better than everyone because he went Harvard, he's an arrogant insecure person who might think that the world only revolves around him
Saw him in a restaurant in Fredericksburg, Texas.
Waiter informed us he does not like to be bothered with fans asking for photo or autographs
Still love him!
If he doesn't want to be bothered by fans, he shouldn't have become an actor. Fans make actors popular.
@@harperstacey9604 And fans buy the movie tickets that,..well we all know,.....
@@roberthudson5999 would you buy a ticket to see his movie, knowing that Tommy Lee Jones doesn't want to be bothered by his fans? I wouldn't.
@@harperstacey9604 He was quite gracious to fans when filming Double Jeopardy in New Orleans. He interrupted a scene to acknowledge and greet his fans of which he knew many were from Texas.
I. Love. Tommy. Lee. Jones. I. Wish. Id. See. More. Of. Him
He's a mysterious man...but I like him. He's unique.
He always looks like he’s crapping out razor blades
Lol we can see that, THIS IS NOT A HAPPY HOUSE
That photo of him with his first wife (5:05) is a fake. That's him, allright, but with the actress Virginia Madsen promoting Gotham (1988).
I noticed that too.
I remember Tommy had a part in a day time soap show. He was super young.
The best actor ever
We're happy to know that you're a fan of Tommy! Which film of his appealed to you the most?
You forgot about Lonesome Dove.
That was so good, #Gears 73 Adult Racing Team 73!
I love all his films!!!!
Terrific actor,brilliant man.
I first noticed him in The eyes of Laura Marrs
Hello Brenda I see happiness all around you, can I please share from it?
I enjoyed watching him in movies.
Don't mess with Tommy. He is such a great actor words can't describe. The lot called A listers should watch his work and learn or cry that they aren't as good.
Always watch him when I see him live the guy
Fun fact! I never his name until now. Men in black was my first introduction of his work..
I find it hard to believe a Tommy Lee Jones biography could not take in his role in the remake of The Alamo or his iconic reprise of John Wayne's Oscar winning performance as Rooster Cogburn in True Grit'. And, finally, in my opinion, his fantastically realistic and iconic character of Woodrow Call in Lonesome Dove; one of the very best and most believable of years of Westerns.
@Grey Ghost: Sorry pardner, but Tommy Lee Jones weren't even the Coen Brothers remake of True Grit in 2010. Reckon you got em mixed up with Jeff Bridges who for sure & certain portrayed Rooster Cogburn.
@@nerblebun You are correct and I stand corrected. It was, of course Jeff Bridges. I was correct about Lonesome Dove being one of his best. Was I thinking of No Country For Old Men, when I thought about him ? Still, I liked both . Maybe it was The remake of The Alamo ? Got a clear case of merging character roles here, I guess !
Tommy Lee Jones is one of my favorite actors.
In 1996, while on a cruise, 2 women approached me and asked me to sign autographs for them They thought I was Tommy Lee Jones. One day about a year later while teaching, one of my students said I looked like Tommy Lee Jones. I was told I resembled Tommy Lee Jones in his 1994 movie, "The Client". At certain angles, there is a slight resemblance. I am about a year older than Tommy.
Loved him in Coal Miner's Daughter and the Executioner's Song.
Hello Priscilla

He also played in either all my children or one life to live. Been a long time ago.
The First time I ever saw Tommy Lee Jones was in the Film 📼
The Eyes of Laura Mars.. 😍 It.. Then later Savage Islands/ Nate and Hayes which is absolutely brilliant.. It's a long the lines of Pirates of the Caribbean.. Tommy Lee Jones plays Bully Hayes and omg wow 😲 he's not only brilliant but looks even more stunningly Hot 🔥 with a Beard 😍
Agent K
i really liked him in “US MARSHALLS” in fact i think they could do a couple more movies in that series.....
he's in the top league with Clint , Gene, ,Al, Dustin,Morgan, etc.
He forgot he played a baddie in Under Seige with Steven Seagul!
Can some damn body help me get a message to Mr Tommy Lee Jones. My name is Issac Williams from Nashville..one of my best actors from my vantage point and I simply just want to meet him. This dude's movies inspired me when life was horrible and it takes alot to get me to watch a whole movie, but this man is My man with much respect...the Fugitive, U.S. Marshall and the list goes on. Just would like to shake his hand before I leave this earth. Top guy...top actor!!!!! Mr Tommy Lee Jones..👍🏽💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿 issac Williams. Nashville
He was wonderful in The Betsy
In 1997 Tommy Lee Jones went to Florida to play polo and he and his now wife went to a restaurant and I had the pleasure of waiting on him. I did such a great job that he requested me every Thursdays.
Thank you so much for the huge tips... 😘
Thanks for sharing that story, just proves what a great guy of screen he is as well.
How nice🥰

He's one of those actors where every part he plays he is simply good.
How true!
I equate him with James Woods.
@@bernardliu8526 I totally agree
Loved him in The Missing
with Cate Blanchett
Even in a turd sandwich like Man of the House
I've always enjoyed him in every show. He's charismatic, mysterious & gorgeous.
Oh my. I agree he's absolutely gorgeous. It's been many years since I 1st seen him act and still think he is a sexy beast!
Same here, Nickie!
I agree. Other commenters here have worked with him and said that he's rude. But, I can't help it - I still think he's mysterious and sexy!
I think you forgot a somewhat important role he played as a Texas Ranger in "Lonesome Dove". How in the world could you leave that out?
I liked him in the movie,The Executioner Song.
I agree and there was no mention of the first part in which I became familiar with him which was the his portrayal of the convicted murderer Gary Gilmore in the two part television movie based on the Pulitzer Price winning non fiction novel by Norman Mailer in 1982 with Jones portraying Gilmore. Gilmore had murdered gas station attendant Max Jensen in Orem, Utah on July 19, 1976 and the next night murdered motel clerk Bennie Bushnell a motel clerk and BYU student in Provo, Utah the next night July 20, 1976. Some thought his contentious relationship with his Nicole Baker a twice married 19 year old female whom he at first had a casual relationship with but later turned into a very intense and strained one because of Gilmore's propensity for violence and use of drugs and alcohol. Gilmore was the first man to be executed after the reinstatement of the death penalty that same year. Gilmore's choice of dying was by firing squad. He reportedly stated when asked it he had any last words said "Let's do it." Jones was very believable in the part of doomed man. But as far as I'm concerned his best portrayal was that of bedraggled and weary Texas Sheriff Tom Bell in the Coen Brothers film version of Cormac McCarthy's "No Country for Old Men."
He has to carry over half of lonesome dove. Outstanding performance.
I think there are a lot of roles that he has played that there just is not enough time to mention all of them. He is a great actor and one of my all time favorite actors!
The Sunset Limited by far.
With Samuel L. Jackson. Litle known.
Two words: Lonesome Dove.
Yep...
probly my favorite all time .....
"I swear"
Yes, Tommy Lee, is one my favorite actors as well. He is manly and has gravitas which sets him apart from 99.99% of the actors currently working in Hollywood.
Gravitas is the perfect word for what he has.
Fantastic Actor! Tommy has talent to spare!
As to personality, why do we need him to be anything but "what he is!"?
"Let's love him as we see him". I really never understand why we cannot accept people as they are without looking for perfection in everyone. We cannot even get perfaction in ourselves. I respect his candidness & find it refreshing! Many thanks for the video! ❤

Absolutely love his and will Smith's performances in men in black!!!!!! Never get tired of watching them!!!!
Yes I love MIB.

Will Smith wouldn’t dare slap Tommy Lee.
He's all American and gorgeous at that🥰
Tommy's father retired in La Feria Texas and lived two blocks from my home. Mr. Jones came to dinner several times and Tommy lived in his house for a short time. Tommy scouted film locations in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas and appeared in "Hard Times" with Sally Field that was filmed there. The last time I saw Tommy he was with Al Gore on a Rural Em[powement Zone trip to the Valley. Tommy asked me if they got the new football field built in La Feria. He has many iconic roles but to me he is "Doolittle Lynn". That character fits my personal recollections of Tommy's demeanor. He looks now just like his father did when I knew him. Robert Cornelison
In my opinion, Tommy’s finest roll was that of Woodrow F. Call in Lonesome Dove.
role
Without a doubt! Better than any of the movies. That Lonesome Dove was mind blowingly awesome.
BINGO!!!!
The scene where he practically beats almost to death, the army scout who was abusing his boy Newt is by far my favorite all time scene!!
I can watch it over and over and not get enough!!
Yes, he was! My favorite part was when he whooped the Calvery guy who was abusing Newt and trying to steal his horse saying, I don't like rudeness in A man and won't tolerate it. That was the best!
EXCELLENT ACTOR,...”COALMINERS DAUGHTER”🤩🤩
Love that movie 🎥
It is now playing on Tubi for free. I watched it last weekend.
I have always enjoyed him and I agree that Woodrow CALL IN LONESOME DOVE WAS ONE OF TOMMY LEE JONES BEST.
his most iconic role of course was captain call in lonesome dove

I really liked him in "Lonesome Dove" and "Executioner's Song."

I was just breaking into the special effects world on my first big show, Volcano. After months of prep at location, the first shooting night came, and Tommy Lee was on the Wilshire exterior set. MY boss said, "Go tell Tommy Lee how that hydrolics gag works," (where he jumps on his undulating car's hood with his daughter in his arms), after which having done so, I walked off, thinking to myself, this job rocks! He was polite, focused and cool as you might imagine. :)
Was impressed by his enormous real life presence when I saw him walking through Central Park back in the '80s - big guy with a very confident strut.
He was awesome in The Fugitive, and moreover Lonesome Dove.
Loved him im men in black, go ahead and press the red button ,while driving the car lollol
What aboutLonesome Dove.great part for him.
Yes, he was so good, billsventure!
Absolutely right!
In a behind the scenes clip of "No country for old man" Josh Brolin said TLJ was giving him tips on the way a real Texan would behave because Tommy was from Texas..Josh smiled and said he did that over , and over , and over lol
They've forgotten one of his better roles as Gary Gilmore in the 1970's movie: The Executioner's Song.
People in van horn Texas say he is a very rude and arrogant alcoholic
That's disappointing, Daryl
True. Arrogant (WHY?) & no integrity. A filthy lush.
Great actor. His role in No Country For Old Men was epic. However, his neighbors in San Antonio do not speak well of his demeanor (to put it lightly).
Definitely an Alpha Male
I wish I was as gifted as nice as he was. Totally respected
Very sincerely,

These tommy lee Jones fans who defend his behavior against Jim Carrey are pathetic, it's unreasonable and unprofessional, you don't dislike someone because of how they dress or look, don't judge people by their appearance's, that's something only a man child would do .
The world doesn't revolve around you, you don't dislike someone based on their appearance, you dislike them based on their behavior, that's the the logical and rational way to deal with such things, your blind emotional feelings are not a rational argument, entertainment is subjective, acting and any job requires a bit of social interaction, tommy is hypocrite who follows whatever he likes not whatever makes sense

Looking at TLJones, you'd never see the power and professionalism that allowed him to take over films, whether it was Lonesome Dove, The Fugitive, or Under Siege. The voice and command presence was always exciting to witness. Just look at Lonesome Dove; he was not an experienced rider but did scenes that most riders would never dream of attempting...I do wish he'd been in Men in Black in a serious rendition, playing out the actual (alleged) events associated with said mysterious men...
Who could forget "Billy Jack"?
It was Tom Laughlin that played Billy Jack
Tom Laughlin is amazing also.
