  • I tried editing a wedding on an Chromebook and Lightroom CC.
For this test I used the $89 Lenovo 3 Chromebook and the $475 Acer Spin 713 Chromebook.

A good chromebook works great! I'd also recommend the Samsung Tab series as they work really nice. The new M1 IPad Air will be awesome as well.

I like editing on my iPad quite a bit! But the lack of usable file system is what makes me choose the Chromebook when traveling.

Is the 713 Spin the Intel i3 version or i5? Your link goes to the i5 model which is listed at $699.

I have the i5 version as it was on sale for $475 which it does pretty often. If you wanted one now, I wouldnt hesitate to buy the i3 version. The i5 is so much faster than the needs of simple video editing. I hope that helps!

Thanks for the Nice video. I appreciate your time and effort for us out here. What if you tried dividing the whole process to bite sizes like exporting maybe 100 pictures at a time and editing and then proceeding? I think It may improve the performance significantly as in the cheap notebook you do not have enough resources as much as the more robust, more expensive machines. You wouldn't look at all the pictures at the same time anyway. It would save you time and The system and ram wouldn't be all clogged up. And before the next batch, you can have a coffee break or a breather which would improve Your performance as well, as we humans perform better with short breaks to improve our focus :) anyway. I would like to see that kind of comparison if possible. That would be fair to the 80 Dollar guy. Thank you, and have a nice day.

What about Polarr? It was made for Chromebooks and includes RAW editing. It probably isn't as resource-intensive as Lightroom and wasn't built for touch like an Android app.

I have not tried Polarr. If I was just starting out I might consider it but I value the flexibility of switching between multiple devices and Lightroom does that the best. Have you tried Polarr? What are your thoughts?

You chose the cheapest Chromebook on earth, that's not a fair comparison.

why didn't you take a good Chromebook. You can't even get a mouse from Apple for €80 The question is rather why such a cheap stuff is produced at all.

Good video man! I thought this was pretty funny to be honest, a question I have is whether to buy a Chromebook with something like an i3 or i5, and edit on the lightroom app, or whether to get this HP 14s. In the UK it's only £249 with a FHD IPS display, pentium gold 7505 and 4gb ram, (which I will upgrade) and a 128gb ssd.
The difference with windows is that I can buy lightroom classic. As opposed to having to use the lightroom app, I'm not sure how these differ.
I've currently got an HP 11a which is great value considering I paid £100 for it, but possibly a Windows may be best for future if I decide to go uni.
For now though I'm having quite a hard decision, as I need one for photo editing since I'm studying photography at college.
If I'm gonna be honest there doesn't seem to be any amazing Chromebooks under £300, I could buy a used x360 or Lenovo 5i for around £200, but I'd have to buy used. Not a big issue for me, I can't afford Photoshop, but it may be good just in case my school give me a free subscription or something.

If youre studding photography at Uni I would look to see if they have a list of computer recommendations first. I doubt youll be using any sort of editing software and would imagine youll be focusing on how to use your camera, basics of seeing light and using your camera settings to capture them, and how tell a story. If thats the case I would still recommend a Chromebook as your money will go much further.

The conclusion I take from this is I can edit photos on my phone or ipad for the time being. Those use Lightroom cc. I can invest in a mid tier computer later.
