I love the Red Queen series. The plot and storyline is great, but there were times where the story fell extremely flat. I still enjoyed the books though. It's very cinematic and I think it should be turned into a movie
Yea, there were moments where it took me months to get through a few chapters. I altogether forgot about the series till I walked through Barnes and Noble one day. I agree, it would make a pretty great movie series - if done right of course.
I loved everything about this book even the characters and plot 🤗 It doesn’t take me a whole lot of originality to impress me because as long as it’s fantasy, dystopian, and romance I’ll read it and most likely love it. I’m not a very picky person so yeah
My issue/ and the brilliance of “King’s Cage” was really hard to get through only because the writing of Mare’s seclusion was well done and thought out, but miserable all the same! Which means Victoria Aveyard did her job! 👏
Yea, she started getting on my nervous too. She just came off as so self-righteous sometimes and was "woe is me." But I did really enjoy the magic system and all the political intrigue enough that it *almost* compensated for her downfalls.
SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!!: I looooved cal and mare obviously, ig it was kind of annoying how they were on and off WHEN CAL CHOSE THE THRONE I WAS ABT TO THROW HANDS. But overall I just loved them so much, every scene with them I just love so much but I found it so interesting with maven especially how he still had good parts to him. I just love cal and mare with all my heart. Also I rlly wish evangeline and mare could have been closer at the end cause that whole scene with her trying to get cal and mare together I lived forrrrr. But I'm not a major reader so it doesn't take a lot to impress me literally anything with a romance and some dystopian stuff I love lol.
Allie Fritz Same but I think that Evangeline and Mare never got super close because for one; Evangeline’s own brother killed Shade and two; there were points in the story where Evangeline wanted to kill Mare
Rebbeca P Oh yeah I agree they could have never been anything like friends but I would’ve liked to see mare not despise her in the end i guess even though she actually had every right to
Hi! Thanks for your review. Its quarantine time & Ive been binge reading like crazy! Just finished up this entire series. Any recommendations for my next read? Also, **possible spoilers ahead*** I want to say while I did find some flaws in the series as well, it has become one of my favorites! I loved so many characters including Farley, Kilorn, Julian, Davidson. My favorites, ironically, are Evangeline and Maven. I mean Evangeline’s character development was amazing. Seriously I grew to love her so much & my heart broke with her. It takes strength to walk away from all you know. Without her choice for freedom, I dont know if indecisive Cal would have been able to come to the decision of giving up the crown. And Maven, poor, broken Maven. Im glad we got some insight into his mind. I cant help but feel so much pity for him anyway and I still cared about him despite the horrible things he did. His mother broke him, literally drove him to insanity. It breaks my heart to know he never had a chance to be his own person or make his own decisions. I feel like *huge spoiler* when Mare described relief in his eyes, that may have been his last battle with him mind and his mom. Like he moved just slightly on purpose so Mare could kill him. I can only imagine how much love he would have been capable of given the chance (even his mom couldnt remove his feelings for thomas or Mare). Still crying over him brb. Meanwhile My feelings for Cal would go from love to anger all the time. I seriously couldnt stand his inability to make decisions. I understand thats how you were raised but seriously, he saw how he was made an outcast and how reds lived. I feel like even in the end, he was unsure if what he’d done was right. Well anyway while Mare did honestly get annoying sometimes (how many times can she say lightning girl 😉) overall I enjoyed her. I feel like her feelings were valid toward both brothers, the silvers, etc. I liked how despite her undying love for Cal, she was able to walk away (if only briefly) from him when the time came & Cal refused to give up the throne. She chose her people and equality over him. I admire that. Can I say that I was so heartbroken that Shade died & while youre right, realistically speaking after so many wars & attacks, other main characters should have died, I am selfishly glad they didn’t. I cried enough with Shade & the fact he left farley & clara behind. I mean how many People does Farley need to lose. It is so unfair to her 😪 Sorry about the long message. Your video was the chosen one for my rant following my completion of this series because I enjoyed your review. Overall, it was an amazing series & Im so glad I got to live it. I absolutely loved the magical, powerful side of it. The ending for me was kind of eh but I know thats how some series and movies are, kind of leaving the rest to the imagination of the reader. In sight of Cal’s annoying indecisiveness, I hope he takes the time away from Mare to work on himself and change for the better. So perhaps this was the best decision. Fyi I think i would be a newblood for sure. Hehe. 💁🏻♀️💘
No need to apologize for the message! I completely agree with all of your points and I too can't help but feel sorry for Maven. Evangeline did have the greatest and most realistic growth throughout the series. She started off as just a single faceted mean girl and transformed into a deep and multidimensional human. Cal and Mare definitely got on my nerves with their 'woe is me' attitude and I did start leaning towards the side characters. I had such high hopes for Mare once he chose the throne over her, but we see how all that turned out. I really, really love your analysis and take on this all! Also, some books that I recommend are Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson, Scythe by Neal Shusterman and The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch! Hope you're staying safe and entertained during this uncertain time!
honestly im stuck at book two i feel like there is too much description and like it takes foreverrrrrrrr to move from one point to the next im not giving up but seriously the tension between Cal and Mere stresses me tf out
OMG I felt the exact same way! It took me forever to get the energy to pick up the third book because I just knew it was gonna be that way again. I'm not a fan of love triangles and they always takes a bit out of me. Just a fair warning, the fourth big had the most stress in it relationship wise if that is something you wish to avoid.
SAME it took me literally a year.... to read only the second book. I started reading other books because I just couldn’t get to the MIDDLE of the book. I’m in the third book and... I hope it gets better
For some reason I could never get through King’s Cage. It’s been a few years since I’ve read it, but I swear I’ve tried reading it like 3 times now, and I can NEVER get through it. I don’t know why, it just felt like the story fell flat. Which is weird because I loved the first two books and it was my favorite YA series before that book. I have War Storm cause I bought it in preparation before I read King’s Cage, and now both books are just sitting on my shelf
I'm rereading the series right now, just about to start the third book, (I thought that there were only for until just now). I enjoy the worldbuilding and the political aspect of the story, the story itself is pretty by the numbers in my opinion, not that that's good or bad, it just is, and I like that there were a lot of characters integral to the plot. I liked some, didn't care about the others. Mare can be hard to understand more often than not, but I like that she's a flawed character and a young person and that people around her call her out when she messes up or acts poorly towards them. I'm fine with the relationship being strained and the two of them trying to work through things, I really appreciated that. The series has its good and not so good sides. I don't read YA novels and am not the target audience, the first book was given to me and I bought books 2 to 4 in less than three months because I just had to know what happens next. So, as a casual reader, I thought it was okay and worth revisiting every once in a while. I'll check to see if the last two books have been translated, I hope they are available here.
I am on the 2nd book (half way) and I just learned that cal and mare don’t work out because I read the *about the book* on a kindle. I have so much anger because it’s like the author gave up on the romance. I don’t know what happens but I’m starting to think about not reading the next 2 books.
@@-seaweed-qwq5858 No problem, but I have to say that there are extra books, but I think it's more interesting if you read it after the whole series is over.
It's too bad that I bought the paperback version, the cover doesn't glow, and the second book is in an odd light blue shade. And then I thought: "maybe I can buy the rest of the books in hardback version", till I realized that means the books won't have the same size :( Guess I'm gonna have to buy them all in paperback...-
Bookworm issues, I feel you! My parents always make fun of me for that but they just don't understand how important that is... I have a trilogy and I like the story but one of the books is paperback, one is hardcover and one is an e-book I mean ughhhhhhh
i loved the book series but i really disliked mare. i’m so glad that later on there were other characters pov other than just mare because if it was just her i wouldn’t have finished the series. it was very interesting to read from iris, evangeline, cal, and maven’s point of view rather than just mare.
I liked the idea… hated the execution. The first book was good. It worked. But the second book was a pain. *SPOILER* they always used the same way to get out of trouble ( teleport) and there barely was anything happening most of the time or as said before resolved so fast or not well that it was so boring. I stopped after the second book
I found maven the most interesting character by far. Just the ways his mind works and the mental games. Hjsbsisnsjw I know his mother fucked him up but I just love to obsess over his character 😅

i loved this series. i recently bought “broken throne” and i’m hyped to read it!
I have been on hold for it through the library for quite a while now! Was it any good?
Not worth it, dont get
Mee too!!
I liked the story line, magic system but I found mare sooooo annoying
Yea, she started getting on my nervous too. She just came off as so self-righteous sometimes and was "woe is me." But I did really enjoy the magic system and all the political intrigue enough that it *almost* compensated for her downfalls.
it helped me a lot to realize she was still just a teenager through it all
I lost count of how many times I rolled my eyes on her lmao
i hated mare so much
i’m so glad that later on in the series there was more than one point of view

Rebbeca P oh ya i forgot
I'm just almost finishing the first book and this video was really helpful I will continue the series. Thank you.

You can listen to an audiobook

I just finished the series yesterday and it took me FOREVER but I finally did it lol...at like 2 in the morning

I am reading the first book rn and I hearing so many mixed things about the second one until I found this video so thank u for helping me decide that
Glad I could help!
Is there 8 books or 5? To read… can someone tell me the order to read these books, there were mix things on the internet.
Are the red queen books tall books or medium sized books?
I recommend the audiobook because it makes it so much better ans so much interesting
I have the new book Broken Throne on hold in the audiobook format so I am excited to give it a go! I usually love audiobooks
Do you know the order that you’re supposed to read them??
Red queen, Glass sword, King Cage and War storm
Thanks!

What’s wrong with this being in one year. The mortal instruments is 6 books that all take in 2007
In what order should i read the books?
Twenty-Fifth Night just search it up
Red queen, glass sword, king’s cage, war storm, broken throne, and their is a prequel called cruel crown
