How did you use b9 on A7? (V/II) Its mixolydian b13
Good question. Think of this A 7 as the dominant with the D minor of the next chord as the tonic. This dominant is called the secondary dominant. In this case, if you think of the A7 scale, you would use the A harmonic minor perfect fit billow. And if you think of the D minor as the tonic, use the D harmonic minor.
It would probably be better here with a natural 9, since it doesn't have the Em7b5 preceding it,
but D harmonic minor is the scale for the A7b9. (aka A phrygian dominant scale).
Being said, as a bass player you're unlikely to bother with these extensions.
