This Google msps feature is fantastic! I used it several years ago in planning a research trip to NC. I marked not only the various libraries and was visiting throughout the state, I also used it to mark the areas where my ancestor who was the focus of my search obtained land grants and used the water icon to mark the rivers and named streams (most streams are named only on the survey but never had official names and are nameless today - but you can use some of the named bodies of water to figure out, roughly, wich stream might be your boundary of interest). It was extremely useful to have this map with me, electronically, at the State Library where you are limited as to what you can bring into the reading room. I'm so happy that finally, someone is doing a great presentation on it! It's like it has been some Google maps secret.
I like the idea of marking the rivers and streams. Yes... it's been a bit of a secret service. Let's spread the word. Share the video on social media and with genealogy societies.
I think this video is ahead of it's time, you are a brilliant Lady. This app can also be used ads. reference point and links to records as I have done with my Croatian research. My hat is off to you.
Great tips! This will be very helpful. I have two families I am tracing that moved around a lot. One is my Ilg family. It seemed for almost each child, they were living somewhere different. They had different addresses listed quite often. So I began tracing them using this feature. Then I started adding in other family that was related to see how close they were. I'm still working on plotting the old locations because the city has been redeveloped over the years. My next map will trace my husband's McGrew family. Hudson T McGrew was a traveling minister so he moved around a lot. It's been quite interesting trying to find everywhere he went. So this will definitely help me picture and plot his locations. I'm really enjoying this series. Thanks so much for putting it together.

On my father's male line, many records for my great grandfather say he was a "Company Secretary of a Friendly Society". He was living in London, but my father was registered as born in Nottingham while his accent was from Manchester and he only said he grew up in Lancashire. I looked up "Friendly Society" and found the "Oddfellows" friendly society he a national branch in London, a subbranch in Nottingham and a large branch called Manchester Unity. I am waiting for the UK Census for 1921 to be released in order to check whether it still just says only "Company Secretary of a Friendly Society".
