    It's funny Mike, you'll hear these other voice teachers telling you these are glottal attacks which need to be avoided. But what you teach just feels so naturally right. Thanks for all your help. Bob

      @@Tenoretrimble Hello Maestro, many thanks for your explanations. Quick question if I may: when I breathe low, behind my back, and do the mini-cough, I have the sensation my larynx is dragged down and slightly forward. I do not feel my throat is totally loose. I have a sensation of restraint more than strain but I am not sure about it.
      How do you define a complete loose throat in singing if a mini-cough implies a thight restaint? How to make sure other muscles are not involved?
      I hope my question is easy to understand :)

    I have been listening to a lot of Franco Corelli recordings recently and many times could I hear these stops before strong high notes, in the beginning I thought that it's just some thing of his style or expression, but now I really understand, thank You, Maestro! Awesome to learn from you!

    You can google Schipa voice lessons it’s amazing you think the man has NO voice but what a technique as Gigli said
    When listening to Schipa you must remove your hat. Caruso heard about him as well went to hear him came home and said Very Nice but nothing to worry about. Schipa could not sing explosive notes but when you hear him sing you hear a master. Michael is a Godsend and very generous indeed. Can’t fault nor would I anything but bow to him.

    Bit hard to digest because only swinging vocal chords can produce a tone. That swing comes about by letting the air through. If you are saying (and your doctor) that there is no air coming through your vocal chords then that would be A. against physics and would B. raise the question: what happens to the inhaled air if it doesn't go out while singing? In that case a one time inhalation would do the trick and be sufficient to sing for a long time....

    Great video, sir!
    I've got question about crying babies. If all what great singers tried to do was imitating crying baby, why do crying babies sound so unpleasant (while great singers sound pleasant)?

    You are a treasure Mr. Trimble. I appreciate you so much. This lesson answered so many questions for me. Can you talk about negative air support where you push the air all out instead of in ? I feel like I have a more conversational result. If I take the big air in it is trying to rush out which takes more energy to hold it in while phonating.

    Maestro Trimble,
    I must thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am a voice major from Texas A&M Kingsville and everything I have been taught about singing has been the complete opposite from what I have learned from you and your book. It has already made a major difference for me as I am able to sing high notes suddenly. I am a tenor. However I am still having trouble figuring out the technique fully. I am still not leaning correctly. I am still able to sing much better than before but it's not perfect yet as I still feel resistance in my throat. May I ask you for some advice? I have been trying to learn how to sing correctly all my life.

      @@Tenoretrimble my apologies Maestro. I forget my UA-cam account does not have my real name. My real name is Juan Carlos Gonzalez but everyone calls me J.C. I come from a mariachi background but have been classically trained as well. I have been singing since I was 6 years old. I would love to hear your opinion no matter what it is. My goal has always been to be the best vocalist I can be but i have not come across the right methods until I came across your videos and read your book. And yes I live in the small town of Kingsville but we are about 30 minutes away from the Laguna Madre and I fish and go kayaking every now and then. I will send you a video as soon as I can within the next few days because I need to know what I'm doing wrong. May I ask where I can send you the video? Thank you so much again, and for the fast response.

    At first it’s difficult and you can even feel it on your chest and it’s uncomfortable but after some time you master it and it makes high notes easier. I think Caballe said if you can’t hold your breath for a minute you may need to look for another career. This may be exaggerated of course but as Michael says babies do it naturally I watched my siblings look like they were going to explode making sounds not breathing

    Hey Mr Trimble. So when we use the breath stop, should the voice be envisioned as taking the pressure and energy it needs from the point of appoggio, as a bow down? Will the muscles of cord closure develop over time in order to utilize the breath from the point of appoggio
    edit: nevermind, i've finally understood the breath stop after all of this time. We stop the breath to the chest and we sing with the body/diaphragm onto the breath stop, but not allowing breath to leak above the breath stop

    • @Velvettrails
      @Velvettrails 4 роки тому

      Have you figured where exactly you sing from the body , like where do you feel the lean below the breath stop ? If that makes sense ?

    • @Naypa11
      @Naypa11 4 роки тому +1

      @@Velvettrails i dont want to say too much because michael trimble knows much more than me, so just watch more of his videos.
      I sign with my body, everything below the point of lean. You breath into your back, then you stop your breath on your chest with a "huh". Its not like a "HUH" where you're using alot of force, you just stop your breath. You attach your voice to your diaphragm, look at michaels trimbles videos on instigators. I found that doing a light "oo" and then droping it to an "ahh, helped me understand singing with the diaphragm.

    Michael, excellent video as always. My question for you is: are we to utilize the cough/breath stop before any vocalization? If so, how do we make that happen in tandem with allowing the contrary motion to occur during exhalation? Also, what would you recommend for only seconds in between phrases in regards to including both the breath atop AND the lean AND a contrary motion? I’m feeling a little stuck. Thanks so much!

    HI Mr Trimble. I have a question. When I do the breath stop with the valsalva maneuver or staccato it works for me really good. I feel my tensions disappear of my throat, but when I sing, it a little hard to find exactly the same sensation without doing the breath stop previously. Can you recomend me something specific or is it just trying to find the same feeling but without doing the breath stop??(Becasuse I understand when I'm singing I can't do the breath stop, it would be a little strange,wouldn't?)
    Thank you very much !!!

    Hi Maestro, thank you for making such good video!! Does the same apply to speaking? I had a vocal injury last year and my speech therapist taught me that when speaking, there should be air throwing out but not breath-stop, so now I am so confused about the correct way of speaking.What do you think?

      @Yvonne Yip - watch also his video on "slender singing". Essentially, you don't want to let air pass through but neither do you want to press/over-compress. Watch breath stop and slender singing.

    Hi Michael! I have been inspired by you and sung song I'm used to singing with a paper towel on my face and was shocked to notice I almost made the paper fly whenever there was an "f" (for, four, five, fear..) and also "p". I tried to figure out ways to enunciation the "f"s and "p"s without moving the paper but I feel like I only manage to do so when I skip it, so "for" becomes "or" which is not great, do you have any specific tips or exercices for these specific consonants? Thank you so much for all your help and generosity with you your time.

    Hi guys! I need your opinion on drinking alcohol, such as a glass of wine or a shot of Jagermeister before the performance (around 30 min before going on stage). I had great performances with and without a little help of alcohol. +: It relaxes me, I can more easily control my stage fright, I get more into character and telling the story of an aria, emotions, etc., but I feel like I didn't put as much attention on breath support as I should. I could really use your opinions, experiences any tips you have.
    I learned soooo much this summer, just from watching Mr. Trimble's videos and practicing at home, I will be forever grateful I found this channel. I will grow as s operatic singer and hopefully, I will get accepted on Conservatorium of Music. Mr. Trimble gave me a breeze of hope and will to work my ass off for my dreams.

    Brilliant videos as always. Someday I must take lessons with you. Speaking of I know you recommend me to work with Ms. Joanna Porackova. But unfortunately it doesn't look like our schedules will match up. Do you know anyone else who can teach this technique? I'm in Rhode island but I can travel to take my lessons. If you know anyone in New York that would be great. If not anyone in or around the southern New England area would be perfect.

      @@Tenoretrimble I'm from Providence, Rhode Island and am 21 years old. My time zone is eastern daylight time. I have studied chorus for the last 5 years and studied a little classical repertoire but never taken voice lessons. I've done yoga in the past and have no problem picking it back up. I don't know how to swim but can learn. I did play alto sax in high school but don't anymore. I meditate everyday for a few hours and that helps increase my breath capacity. I'm a high lyric tenor and sopranist. I want to study both voices and explore all forms of repertoire like lieder, spirituals, opera, operetta, musical theatre, pop and rnb, and more. I feel my voice is very versatile and would like to sing all genres and repertoire I can. My range is C2-C7 and this technique would allow my voice to do things one would deem impossible. I also want to study the art of coloratura in both voices and master it. I feel I can do anything my mind is set on. There is a lot of work that needs to be done though. My registers are not blended or developed. But I know I have an extraordinary voice. I have already been practicing the appoggio and have heard what it can do. I want to take it to the next level. I don't mind taking Skype lessons. It probably would be better for me with my schedule. I can be available on weekends anytime and during the week between 10:00am-1:00pm.
