I'm sorry for your loss. And I know that it can be especially tough around the holidays, when we get together with our loved ones and some of them have passed. Hug your living loved ones that much tighter. Tell them that you love them. And make time to spend with them. We get busy with daily life and time just flies by.
And share your memories of your lost loved ones, especially with younger family members. Even if you've told a story 50 times, that's how younger people learn about and learn from their family members. I learned a lot from my paternal grandfather telling the same stories over and over again, and I still remember a lot of details over 30 years later. And I can share those stories with my kids, and they can have a sense of who he was despite being born long after he passed. And sharing the stories helps us remember our loved ones and can give us a moment of joy instead of just missing them.

As a growing teenage son with the best dad in the whole world, I just want to thank you. I saw this on my recommended list and I was going to ignore it, but I decided to watch it. I was in the same situation not to long ago and what hit me the most is the part when there was a flashback to his childhood. This made me break out into tears, it hurts knowing that you have once hated the hero that is your father. Respect you father and make the most out of the time you have with him, no matter how many chores he makes you do. Same goes for your mother. 😢❤

For me, my grandfather had a fatal heart attack in front of me when I was four. Right after my father had dropped us off to head to work.
The door had just shut behind him when my sister, grandmother, and I started screaming for him. He tore through the door and was there in an instant. My sister and I were taken across the street to a friend of my grandmothers, and my grandfather died in my father's arms.
Ever since then, I have feared that it would be my fate to suffer the experience that my father did.

This vid did bring me to tears. I did not have the best relationship with him. Like many it takes years before we start to take responsibility for our situations and forgive our parents for what we feel should have been. Glad he left this world knowing I loved him. I miss my old man.

Crazy, I had this exact same moment with my father. The game started out strong, I couldn't miss. I knew today was the day, I was gonna beat my old man. As the game went on I got a sinking feeling and purposely bricked every shot. Dad won the game and seemed a bit awkward. I think he knew I let him win. I was so bummed about it afterwards. I didn't really want to beat my dad I guess.
After that day, we would shoot baskets together but we never played each other. We did get closer but yeah, I think good sons will often feel some regret when they pass up their old man

    • @loki2240

I didn't and don't mind passing up my dad because it's not like it's the son's fault and a good father should want his children to be better than he ever was at everything. I certainly hope that my sons become their best selves and that their best is better than me.
Unfortunately, my father isn't that way. He's insecure (even in his 80's), and he's always struggled with supporting his children and trying to elevate himself (or his mythological self) above his children (and other people). It's sad to see someone live their whole life without being comfortable being themselves. But that doesn't excuse the wrong he's done, either.

Dad relentlessly beats your a$$ on the court when you're younger so you don't get the idea that the world owes you anything or that you should always do well without trying. You getting to where you can beat him means he did his job AND you actually took the lessons to heart. We're not supposed to be in our 40s or 50s with you in your 20s and we're still whooping that a$$ on the court.

Not only was is he an amazing husband to my mother, but I watched him sacrifice over and over again to make sure me and my brothers were always provided for. At times that sacrifice would be time spent with his family for time spent providing for his family. He got so tired and keep taking brakes and I was so frustrated but then I just paused and realized that he’s getting old and it was my time for the baton pass like you said. Let him rest while I soloed the move and didn’t get upset with him when he got tired after that day.
